Established in 1886, this hotel is ably owned and run by Motsie Bezuidenhout (no, she hasn't been there that long!) and the kitchen and dining-room operate smoothly under kid gloved iron hand of Norah (now in her 46th year of service). Although an olde world inn, the hospitality is clearly of the 21st century: welcoming, hospitable with a wanting-to-please style.... More

Friendliest management and staff! Definitely a place to visit! Rich in history and character. You feel right at home in a beautiful building. Every single face has been a smiling one since I set foot in the hotel!

The Royal Country Inn is part hotel, part museum! The artefacts around the hotel are interesting and certainly make for a unique location. The bar is also quirky, with good service and a wide range of drinks available. The restaurant meal we had in the evening was good quality, although the breakfast was only average. The only disappointing thing was... More

We stayed at the hotel as part of a group. We were all blown away by the quality and variety of the food. The public areas are very pleasant and are decorated with paintings and articles about the Anglo Boer War which is appropriate for a hotel from where you may/would take a Battlefields Tour. The staff are very friendly... More

Stayed there overnight in December 2015 (apologies for tardiness in writing a review!) and found the management and all staff to be extremely helpful, friendly and pleasant. Besides a lovely breakfast, also ate our evening meal there on recommendation of our battlefields tour guide - their curry was to die for! Just a really lovely experience staying there - felt... A friend and spent five nights at the hotel and shared a comfortable family room (two adjoining rooms with bathroom and TV in each room). We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel and they all the meals were outstanding. Lovely caring friendly staff and nothing was too much trouble for them.

We have just returned from staying at the Royal Country Inn. We did tours of the Ballefields during the day and had our breakfast and dinners at the hotel. We so enjoyed our stay, our room was very nicely appointed, well serviced every day. The breakfast was really good, the dinners were very very nice !!! Such great staff, a... More

We were a large group (45) and the service could not be faulted. The rooms are a tad twee but that added to the charm. The lady of the house excelled and the menu for breakfast and dinner was comprehensive. So was the food quality. On the last night (of 5) the buffet was changed to a la carte just... More

The plus here is that the management allowed us to check out the morning after arrival although we had booked for 4 nights. Maybe it was just our room, but the title of this review sums it up - Old, dirty, dark & miserable. Sell the place and spend some millions of rand doing the place up to make it... More

Beautiful lodge with a lot of history and interesting artwork. Very comfortable rooms and very nice bar, breakfast and dinner options. Staff and management were very friendly and helpful. We were even offered ear plugs since our rooms over looked the main road. I ended up not even needing them, it was very restful. Would definitely stay here again.
