We stayed here for a week this summer. The property is maintained and clean. Not sure about all the cottages but a few have been renovated and they are well kept and have an air conditioning unit. There were no patio umbrellas and the wifi was dodgy at best. There is a small patch of sand for a beach feel but know that Rice Lake is a weedy lake and there is no real beach available. The owners were accessible and are friendly. They did request for people to leave a night before due to COVID so that they could air out the cottages but no refunds were offered. However it was not mandatory as some families did stay. If you are looking for a 2 bedroom cottage my favourite was number 7. It has a great working air conditioner, it´s big and has a beautiful tree that keeps the deck shady and cool all day long. The dock is nice and I love the benches right on them to look over the lake or fish off of them. They have one communal fire pit. Overall this was one of the cleanest properties we have been to and we were comfortable and had a great time.

We stayed here for a week and it wasn’t as pleasant as I had hoped. When they would bring us items from storage they were covered thick with dust and bugs. No real beach, lake filled with weeds. It really felt like the property had minimal care.

The owners were gone for the week and no one could get a hold of them. Various guests needed assistance at their cottage or other rentals. When the owners showed up on the last day they denied they had been gone and blamed issues on the guests.

I don’t think they realized that all the cabins talked to each other and had to help each other out at different times, most jarring was when a guest that had rented the boat got stranded when it malfunctioned. They had to be assisted by another guest with their own boat.

Find somewhere else to go.

O internet was told it didn’t reach to cabin 10. It’s advertised they have internet, owner said he’d see what he could do. We ran into him a couple days later and he said, oh yeah, I put in a booster so you should have internet now. We did, hardly a signal and was so slow…went to get on my tablet and a pop up said it was off until tomorrow! Water pressure was terrible, you have to wait for it to build up again to use water for any use. Lake was nice but dead. Went up to fish and didn’t have much luck. Was told a cat food co. Paid, to come in and net fish. The lake has not recovered. The cabin is cute, no counter space or cupboard space, thank goodness we had air conditioning. No beach, just a spot where there were three slimy steps on a dock into the water. Views were beautiful, though. We won’t be going back.

I would give no stars if that was an option the service was absolutely atrocious! First the website is complete false advertising sandy beach…. More like sandy clift covered in weeds that smelt like dead carp. Second gas on site…. Yeah no more like go drive 5-10mins down the road and get your own gas. Third the owners took off for 3 days on vacation without letting any of the guests know. So we were basically on our own to maintain a rental boat that hardly ran. Once we finally found an owner 3 days later he looked at the boat for 5 mins and said it was fine and it just needed an oil change which he didn’t do that day he said we could continue use of the boat! When it was really not fine and we actually ended up stranded in the river because the motor wouldn’t start! We had to call another guest for assistance since nobody answered our call for help at the resort. Lastly I hope you like bugs the outside of the cottage has an absurd amount of dead bugs stuck to everything. We contacted the owner to discuss compensation and we were told we are not welcomed back to this resort and that we will not receive any compensation…..She was extremely rude and disrespectful and told us we were lying! WORST customer service ever! Definitely would never go back to Sunshine Cover Resort

We spent a weekend at Sunshine Cove Resort and it was fantastic! The Cottages were clean and very well equipped. They were well located and easy to get to. It took us hardly an hour and 15 minutes (door to door) to get to the cottage from Pickering.
All the cottages were on the water front surrounded by lush greenery. The perfect place to go hiking, fishing or just sit around the campfire and enjoy the calmness and serenity.
Carl was the perfect host, taking care of our every little need to make sure our stay was comfortable and fun. Oh yes: while you are there, don't forget to rent the pontoon for a sail around the lake.
I would highly recommend this resort if you want to get away for a week or more.

Was very surprised by previous negative reviews. This is our second time taking a week in August. This year under the new management, we see a lot of improvements. Internet is great. Management has their phone numbers posted. Always within the reach. Boats and pontoons all ready, didn't hear about the problems. Very responsible owners. Nothing to complain. Good resort, and prices are reasonable.

Spent a week at Sunshine Cove in cottage 3. Very clean and cosy. Also rented a boat that ran fine. New owners this year that were available at all times. This is now our place to go. No complaints at all!

Where to start?! I've been renting cottages for 30 years, have a 5 star rating on ABNB and great relationships everywhere I've rented. Our family are all vaccinated and we are currently in the second phase of reopening Ontario.

I'll summarize.. in my opinion the owner Susan should not own any business dealing with people.
Do not stay here, stay anywhere else, or just stay home. That's how bad this owner Susan is!

As MANY MANY other reviewers have stated, Susan was very friendly and nice UNTIL she got paid in full, then was argumentative and difficult.

The web site says pet friendly, but after paying a deposit apparently "our cottage" was not pet friendly. Susan eventually agreed to let us bring the small dog, who was very very good, but then she complained that she could "see it walking around"....? The dog was never ever left unattended, didn't bark once and was only at the cottage for 2 days.

The biggest issue; there was a family medical emergency and as a result my 8 yo step son (who lives in our household) had to be dropped off to stay with us at the cottage for the last few days.

While being dropped off they were accosted and confronted in the parking lot by Susan, who verbally assaulted them, screaming at an 8 yo autistic boy that he was not welcome here, and he should get the $#%& off the property.

She made him cry in the parking lot, then came tearing down to the cottage on her quad to confront me at the cottage to say that the "kid and your wife can get in the car and get the $#&% off the property" or she would call the police.

I very calmly explained the situation and pointed out that he lives in our household and nowhere in her contract or rules did it say that people in our own household couldn't stay with us.

She didn't care, didn't want to listen and I eventually offered to leave early with a partial refund to which she refused and drove off stating that "this isn't over".

Never have I encountered such an unprofessional, disrespectful, uncaring, argumentative, confrontational business owner.

Susan in my opinion doesn't like people, doesn't like pets, doesn't like kids, doesn't much seem to like her business, and just doesn't care.

The resort itself is a little run down and needs an investment to bring the units up to date, but isn't that bad. Unfortunately as we all know, going to the cottage in the Summer is all about the experience, and Susan seems intent on ruining the experience for everyone.

If that's not enough;
- there is no beach as stated in their ads and web site
- dogs are not actually welcome
- children are not welcome
- you can't park your car near your cottage, it has to be parked in the lot at the top of the hill by the office
- not 420 friendly, which doesn't matter to us, but if you use it as medication for stress/anxiety etc you will not be able to use it here
- they have a ramp but you are not allowed to launch your own boat they do it for you
- there are no fire pits by the cottages, just one central one, which by the sounds of it people are not actually allowed to enjoy
- they have a fish cleaning station but all cleaned fish must be kept in their freezer, you're now allowed to keep it in your cottage

The only memories your family will make here are "remember that one place we stayed where the owner behaved so badly she ruined our vacation?"

Note to Susan; your Waiver does not protect you against civil action for misrepresentation nor verbally assaulting adults / minors with profanity and threats.

We left a day early anyway.
