I felt compelled to write a review after the harsh one left recently. We had a comfortable nights sleep and a good breakfast. We were attending a 40th party in the village so this worked perfectly for us as we could walk there. For the money it hits the mark.

Having read the rather dated reviews on Trip Advisor we were looking forward to staying in a 'shabby chic' B & B. It was not chic or quirky but very shabby. The whole place is tired and dated and in great need of decoration and refurbishment. It was pokey with no room for comfy chairs to watch the TV. There... More

I was on a course at Calke Abbey and wanted somewhere close and this is literally 2 minutes from the entrance. I avoid chain hotels whenever possible and this is perfect for me, a little quirky :) . It is next to the village shop, who run it. It looks like a quality "Granny Flat" with a lovely comfy bed,... More

I work on the road and stay in hotels constantly. This is the nearest you will feel from being at home. Lovely comfortable room and cooking facilities for meals. When you are on the road you get sick of eating breakfasts that are included and you eat them because it is the done thing. This has facilities to make your... More

Found this delightful little place looking for somewhere to stay so could attend cousin's wedding. This was just a couple hundred yards from the entrance to Calke Abbey, but the driveway up to the Abbey is about 2 miles, so make sure you have a taxi or means to get up there! This is a lovely little self contained place... More

This is a suite of rooms with a fully equipped kitchen along with plenty of supplies. The accommodation is separate from the nearby shop and post office and your breakfast is brought across by the owner. There is plenty of space and the accommodation would be ideal for walkers wanting self catering facilities. Warm and comfortable.

We stayed here for a family event in the village, and chose the B&B purely on price and location, but have to say it exceeded expectations. the 'room' is really a converted stable (hence the name) separate from the main house, and is almost a small self catering cottage rather than B&B. Comfy double in the main living space, and... More

I found this gem when looking for somewhere to stay for Download festival, and booked 3 nights at a bargain price compared to local hotels. The accommodation is a mini home from home, with a large open plan room upon entry with a comfortable double bed, fully laid dining table, small galley kitchen, a second bedroom and bathroom with shower.... We like to stay in places a little different and The Stables is one. It is owned by the Postmasters and within the private gardens of the post office in Ticknall. Secure off road parking with closed gate at night. It was lovely having our own space and the best bit about it was being able to eat our breakfast... More
