The 3-star hotel Cartago Nova is located on the maritime promenade in Malgrat de Mar. This amazing hotel have awesome sea views or mountain for the most calm people. Perfect for singles, couples and families, it is positioned just 25 metres from the beach and around a selection of bars, shops and restaurants. The hotel has a solarium with swimming pool and kids pool, sun beds, parasols, lounge, bar and restaurant. The hotel is equipped for people with reduced mobility. 214 rooms divided in 10 floors include a private balcony for most of the rooms, air-conditioning, heating, satellite TV, telephone, safe box (for hire), wardrobe and a equipped bathroom with shower for most of the rooms and free toiletries. Cots available on request.
Allegria group have acquired this hotel and have started to put their mark on it. It doesn't yet scream Allegria branding like others in the group but we found the place spotlessly clean, pleasant staff and spacious rooms. We booked superior room with sea view and was only about 15€ à night more than à standard room bit from photos we had seen was worth it. Only point we can make on the room would have been to have a fridge which we have come to expected in a superior room. Bar very reasonable, good choice of branded spirits, excellent bar team and we loved the cheeky lad on tray service bringing your drinks. Reception efficient and polite. Restaurant as expected a buffet style and a little bar to get drinks on a pay as you go service. Food was better than most hotels of a 3 star rating in the same area. Choice is limited but quality of the food was good and freshly prepared. There is a nightclub under this hotel and when we came in late you can hear the base in reception from the music below. I expect this could be a problem for guests staying on the 1st floor. We were on the 6th floor so slept like babies. Overall I agree that this hotel has been given very harsh reviews. You get what you pay for, we were very happy with our stay. We would definitely stay again when passing through.…

Reviews are very harsh. It is a basic hotel but clean and has all amenities. Great view of the beach from hotel room, rooms was clean and spacious. Food was better than expected for a 3 star hotel. Staff were fine however one of the older male staff who manned the door for breakfast was ignorant. Lovely bartender on hotel bar Susanne (I think). If your going on holidays and have loads of activities planned this is definitely the place to go. Would not go if your planning on staying close to the hotel the whole time.

So we booked to stay at Cartago Nova from Monday to Friday and on approaching the holiday I obviously read some reviews which made us sceptical about the whole trip so thought I'd give you our experience as honest as possible. Hotel and check in When you get dropped off, its really unclear where you need to go to get to the hotel but the entrance is on the main strip side but its up an alley just past the nightclub entrance. Blink and you would miss it. You walk past a gate to the pool area and its just up on the left hand side with yellow gates. If you hit a supermarcat you have gone too far. Hotel lobby was very clean and small but it did the job. We also got free WiFi which was a bonus. But no hairdryer in the room. Upon arrival we checked in to our room no problem. The lady at reception was lovely and after 5 mins we headed up to our room on the 4th floor. The room overlooked the pool, strip and had a bit of a sea view which was really nice The room Bathroom was lovely albeit a bit small but it had clearly been renovated not that long ago. The room itself was pretty dated and would benefit from a spruce up. Plenty of storage which was fab and we even had a safe too. The balcony was small but big enough for a couple of chairs and we didn't use it much. Beds.....hard as iron and didn't sleep well at all really. We asked for more pillows which were there when we returned to the room. The pool Basic but clean. No umbrellas with sunbeds so be prepared for that. But there was no issues getting a bed and as I say it was really clean. There was a bar which you could access both inside the hotel or outside near the pool. Barman seemed nice enough and again bar areas were very clean The restaurant This is where it goes downhill. The first night we headed to the restaurant we were greeted by the most miserable, rude man. Took our room number and told us where we could sit. Only part of the restaurant was laid up for diners, the rest closed off. The choice if food is slim.... don't get me wrong there was salad and soups as well but the rest was a bit rubbish. I'm fussy anyway on holiday so I had a bit of salad, chips, some spaghetti with tomato sauce and it was all lukewarm. Wasn't pleasant to eat at all. So much so we ate out every night we were there. Breakfast was OK, cooked items available with pastries, toast and cereal. There was two toasters one of whichbwas ok the other wasnt working properly and on day 2, there was onlybine in use and it wasnt working properly either and it took 5 times to get past the warm bread stage. So breakfast was ok but lunch and dinner were a no go in our eyes. Rank food and a rude waiter isn't for me. Also, you weren't allowed to take bar drinks into the restaurant. All that was available to drink was water. There was a small bar area in the restaurant but noone ever there to serve you. Nightclub There is a nightclub attached to our hotel. It wasn't open our first night that we saw but all other nights 10pm to 6am. I have to admit I didn't hear any noise from it at all but that's not to say someone in a room closer to it wouldn't be able to hear it. The area/location Personally I thought area and location were spot on. You hade a subway opposite the hotel which took you under the train track and bought you out towards the beach. Literally a 5 min walk if that. Plenty of shops to mooch around if you like that kind of thing. Medical center and pharmacy within walking distance. Loads of eateries around too. We ate in two places whilst here. The Drunken Duck and Kings Grand Cafe both within a 5-7 min walk. Both places served the most delicious food and we would highly recommend both places to eat. The Drunken duck is a english family run pub just off the strip past the Kings. There is a really good land train too which costs 3.9 euros and that's for a round trip. You can however get off at one stop and jump back on the next. Ideal if you want to venture a little further along the strip. By the landtrain ticket office there is also a taxi rank with fixed price fairs which I found useful. There is a train line that runs along the coast but I believe it stops running after 9pm but its certainly not loud enough to keep you awake. On Tuesdays There is a market along the main road (which is closed off of course) but we took a wander and it was OK, something different to experience. Mosquitos The little buggers are having a field day on everyone at the moment. I currently have 15 bites that I can see and man they itch. We think it's from sitting in the pubs but when you look around, everyone has them. I got some good cream/gel from the pharmacy for 8 euros which has helped. In a nutshell You definitely get what you pay for. We wanted a cheap holiday and that's what we got. I can't say I would stay in the same hotel again but I would definitely stay in the area in a decent hotel.…

Worst holiday we've ever had. We have been to the area before and stayed at Tahiti Playa (much better hotel - just a little out of budget this time). There's not a huge amount to do here so we hired a car this time. The local area is nice enough. We arrived at the hotel to check in. The lady on reception was nice enough but looked like she was having a bad day. We all have them. We got to our room....well....it was awful! The floor was dirty. The walls were crumbling by the skirting boards. Aircon barely worked. The shower was good but you could hear everything from the vents in the bathroom. Other people's conversations, going to the toilet, showering etc. Bit strange. When we looked up the hotel, it said no pets allowed. Yet all we could hear were dogs barking through the vents! With that and the club under the hotel till 6am, sleep clearly wasn't on our agenda for this holiday. The food. Breakfast - very little options and it was cold! Had a little coffee and juice machine which was only available at breakfast. The rest of the meals, coffee machine was switched off and you could only get water out of the juice machine. Which meant having to pay for drinks. Only options were coke, Fanta, beer, wine or bottled water. Very poor. Lunch and dinner - was the same stuff out. Most of it looked like leftovers and tasted like it as well. Needless to say we ate out the rest of the week. We paid half board and regretted it. The staff in the food room were not very friendly. Moody looking. No-one wanted to be there that's for sure. Do Not book this hotel! …

Me and my partner went here for 6 nights. We thought it was going to be an alright 3 star hotel, but it was worse than we thought. Air con that they claimed to have barely worked. Noises from the club below from 22:00 till 06:00 was unbelievable. The room was old with old yellow lighting. Bathroom had rust on the shower rails and I’m not being over dramatic but we planned to stay in a budget so 3 stars was what we decided but this was worse than 3 stars I’m sorry. We’ve been in better 3 stars hotels in Portugal and other places and it’s actually nice. Only good thing I can say is the fact that the location is close to the beach, literally across the road, and you have many shops to go to and look around. Also many restaurants. But when it’s time to go back to the room… it becomes disappointing. The double bed is literally two single beds push together. If you’re not bothered with the hotel as much and you’re there to go out clubbing or something then this is alright, but if you’re looking for a budget but a nice place to stay and relax then I’d look else where. They say you get, what you paid for but this is a bit ridiculous when you’re paying £560-600 for 6 night and only getting B&B.…

Stayed here for 4 nights with my friends room was very basic very small balcony no fridge hairdryer or kettle etc bathroom was quite nice and the room was clean. Pool area was okay would have preferred if there were some umbrellas beside the loungers. Breakfast was not great not much of a variety and food was cold some mornings. No food served at the pool side bar which was disappointing although the cocktails were good. Overall not a bad place to stay if you are on a small budget .

Like someone said before me...its a hotel from hell!! The food was bad,the room was old furnished, the noise from people coming in & out..with dogs...the loud music from the club downstairs...everything was unbelievable! I stayed at 3 stars in a lot of places, but this hotel was the worse one in my life! I couldn't take a nap in the afternoon or sleep well in the night! First, when I read the other people say this is bad and we should avoid, I thought they are overreacting, but no no no! Everything was so true! I'm so sorry that I spend my money & my time in this....I really don't know how to call this ugly hotel! Please,guy's...don't go there! You will ruin your holiday, I promise you! Hope everyone to read all rewius and go somewhere else 🙏🙏🙏
