The location of the Hotel is near the beach which is brilliant but it took us about an hour to go to the Airport. We hired a car so we drove to Barcelona which we really enjoyed. The meals were average - the rooms had single beds which is okay for friends travelling together but not good for couples - would have wanted a double bed. The rooms were cleaned every day and fresh towels put out on a daily basis. Evening entertainment was good and really liked the fact that it was an adult only hotel.

After a long day of travel to get here we arrived to be greeted by a very unfriendly man who obviously did not want to be here. He gave us our room key, and we opened the door to see one small double bed… (we are not a couple, my friend brought me for the weekend for my birthday) so we went back and asked for a room with 2 beds. He said no, but after us absolutely insisting he gave us another room and literally threw the new key at us. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable and the air conditioning works well so that was ok.
Breakfast was ok, warm food was definitely not fresh but it was edible. The boiled eggs were the same batch two mornings in a row, all the smashed ones still in the bowl. The pool was clean and the outside area was nice. The barman (Frank I think) was really good but the drinks are definitely, definitely watered down. We drank loads and were nowhere near even tipsy. You don’t get glasses either, everything is in plastic cups. Lunch and dinner were pretty much the same thing all the time, no real choice if you want warm food. The sewage tank empty point is literally outside our room which was a nice touch because they emptied it, not even moving our sun lounges away. The evening entertainment first night was some Latin dancers, and it was performed in the bar area, they were talented but it wasn’t the entertainment we were looking forward to. The bar is a help yourself situation. There is a cocktail machine that gives you squash/cordial and definitely not a cocktail. The 2nd night entertainment was actually really good. It is a really basic hotel so if you want anything remotely fancy look somewhere else, but if you just want a cheap weekend away this is the place to come. Also I would not do the all inclusive option. There are loads of amazing places to eat and drink up the road.

We have just got back from a 5 day stay and the staff were brilliant both bar staff, restaurant staff, reception and cleaning staff, the entertainment was very good. The rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. Daily cleaning to the rooms was also much appreciated. The hotel was right on the beach, everything was included except if you wanted a branded drink, which to be honest, didn't matter to us. Our only issues were the awful drain smell in reception and on the patio and the amount of flies in the restaurant, landing on food and around us whilst we ate. This could easily be rectified with a buzzing device fitted or even with fly papers. The food we found to be very good all week, except for our last night (the hotel was closing for the season within 3 days of us leaving) the food on the Thursday was not so great as it was cold. If the hotel can address the smell of the drains in reception and in the patio areas, and the flies in the restaurant, we wouldn't hesitate in coming back as it was VERY good value for money.

I find it hard to understand the negative comments about this Hotel. Firstly the location is superb, you could not be closer to the beach without getting your feet wet, the pool and outdoor area are superb with more than enough sunbeds and seating. The staff are very pleasant and always ready to help with any problems or questions you may have, entertainment was no worse or no better than you would expect in most Hotels, the selection of food was, to be fair, of decent quality with a good choice, ok it could have been hotter but a microwave is available if needed. our room was well serviced every day and the whole Hotel was cleaned to a good standard. For a budget Hotel, I consider the standards to be high and would be happy to go back any time.

This was an absolute disaster from the start. The smell in my room was so bad I couldn’t breathe! I went to reception and a cleaner was asked to come to my room, she just put a jell cover over the shower plug! When I returned to reception to explain the receptionist said the cleaner said I was lying & she had to come & smell my room! Then informed me that yes the smell was awful but she couldn’t change my room! Also the electric was constantly cutting out about every 15/20 minutes. The whole place was disgusting & the staff were very rude, we couldn’t stay there so on day 2 we booked into a lovely hotel & spa literally across the road called Hotel Sumas We all had to pay out for the hotel, drinks & food but it was worth it. What a complete different experience (well worth the money) I would recommend anyone looking to stay at hotel Amaraigua Don’t waste your money! The food is vile & the drinks are not great, all self serve in plastic cups no tea making facilities in your room & the whole place smells of sewage, damp mops & terps. Oh & my friend that is a pescatarian was eating a vegetarian dish & found chicken in it! Absolutely everyone we spoke to said the same thing as us!

What a great four day break in this hotel. The staff were just fantastic , especially Monika. One of the most pleasant and caring reception staff I’ve ever met. Nothing was too much trouble.
The location of the hotel is perfect as it is on the beach so you can choose to spend time on the beach or by the pool.
The hotel is clean. Lots of food - always plenty of salads as well as a choice of hot foods.
Our room had a balcony overlooking the beach and the sunsets were beautiful.
The train station is a ten minute walk away and it’s easy to get to Girona (well worth a day trip) or Barcelona and train travel is so cheap. All in all a great value holiday and perfect for a long weekend break with a group of friends . Thank you to all the staff for making our stay so nice

We had an absolutely awful experience at this hotel.

The food is not edible and the same leftovers every single day, there is not enough seating in the restaurant and staff are completely incompetent.

The rooms are filthy and infested with ants, constant smell of drainage, air con not working and flooding the room with water and light fixtures are hanging out of the wall. We repeatedly requested to change rooms and reception staff told us it could be done and then couldn’t be done and finally the man on reception at night began to shout at me in Spanish when I asked could we change rooms due to our room being full of ants. The same man was seen drinking on shift and was later observed to be completely intoxicated to the point of being unable to walk properly; we also saw the bar staff pouring him drinks and when we reported this to the staff the next day they called us liars and said they checked the CCTV (the CCTV showed him drinking but they denied this).

Not one member of staff knew who the manager was and when we eventually found the man who said he “supposed he was the manager” he said he would personally see that our air con was fixed, when we returned to our room the air con hadn’t been fixed and they had turned off our air con completely from a central control system (the air con was turned back on 1 hour before we checked out).

The shower completely flooded the bathroom and bedroom every time it was turned on and when the toilet was flushed the electrics tripped.

The management were banging on our door before check out time and telling us to leave the room.

The key cards to the rooms also didn’t work and we had to get them changed repeatedly which the staff were never happy to do.

The hotel does not have a sauna which it states it does on the website. We are currently in the process of claiming money back from our travel provider

Wow, what can I say that is not positive about this hotel.
Our room was clean and kitted out with everything you would need, including a safe, air con, toiletries, hairdryer and to our surprise a private terrace. This was a sun trap and gave us an aerial view of the terrace below, the sea, street and given privacy with a row of trees and we were fortunate enough to watch parrots fly in and out of them.
The staff were very friendly and the receptionist allowed us to borrow a kettle and nothing was too much trouble. As it is a small hotel, you really got to know the staff.
It had a relaxed vibe and there were always plenty of sun beds. Don’t get me wrong, sun beds were reserved but not at silly hours.
The pool is small but we enjoyed flitting between the pool and beach. The shower by the entrance to the hotel, beach side was useful but the sand was really like fine shingle and didn’t tend to really stick to your skin as much.
The food offered huge choice and there was always a meat and fish option. In fact there was a huge array of meat, fish, veg, fruit etc to suit any palette and dietary requirements. The only thing I would say that could be improved was the temperature of the hot food which really should be just that, as it was lukewarm at best.
I even had paella which we planned on having at another restaurant out one night but didn’t need to. We thought it was the best food we had in any hotel we had stayed at.
The entertainment wasn’t great and geared towards Europeans, particularly Germans and Dutch, with not many English staying the week we were there. The self service bar at night was also a strange phenomenon.
The location on the beach was amazing and a good base for sight seeing, particularly to Barcelona, which was just over an hour away by train. This coastal journey was lovely. I believe there are no other hotels on the beach in that local area.
Ignore any of the bad reviews and check this hotel out for yourself. You will not be disappointed.

For the price we paid this is an excellent hotel. Although listed as a 4star it is more a 3 star I would say.
The rooms are lovely and spacious, beds very comfortable, rainwater shower so nice and air con works well.
Food - Although can get repetitive ( as all inclusive hotels do) there is always something to eat. Breakfast has everything you need, hot or cold.
Yes there is a subway to get across the road but that’s the price you pay for being directly on the beach!! No you are not allowed to take your sunbeds on the beach, my thoughts about this is that they do not have the staff to hunt them down and bring them all back to the hotel. You can hire a sun bed about 50 yards away. Pool feels cold when you first get in but I found it really refreshing as we are still here and it’s very hot (8th October) Yes they serve drinks in plastic cups but I can’t see a problem with that. Yes the entertainment goes on until 11.30pm so if you are early to bed people - request a room on the outside. No tea or coffee making equipment in the room but I took a travel kettle so we were fine.
I also noted all the bad reviews about this hotel but if you are paying 3star prices, don’t expect 5* luxury.
We flew into Barcelona and the transfer is about 2 hours, if we came again I would look to fly into Gerona.
To sum up, this is a small ( I would say ) 3 star adult only hotel and to reiterate, for the price we paid, a perfect stay. Oh , and I should mention, it’s right on the beach, just walk through the hotel gate and you’re on the beach ( I was reliably informed the sea was colder than the pool. One other thing to mention is the staff are very friendly and helpful. I sometimes wonder when reading reviews - are we staying at the same hotel others describe.

The pictures of this hotel are old. Its not a 4* hotel. Its right on the train line, no mention of that in write up. One freezing cold pool. It is on the beach but not soft sand, more like grit. NO entertainment in our weeks stay, two nights of CD music if that's what they are calling entertainment. Took 3 days to get a kettle in the room. No remote with TV had to ask and that took another day. Shower door was in the corridor therefore floor flooded every time we showered. Take your own hairdryer as the one provided would burn your hair off. Plastic furniture inside and out so no comfort on cold days. One indoor space if it rains, no undercover outside either. One bar open at a time. Snacks were leftovers from previous mealtimes. Food was very repetitive. Receptionists did not understand English very well. Daytime entertainment was 2 packs of cards and a game of cludo. Still waiting for maintenance to come back and WD40 the squeaky door. I was extremely dissapointed. There are better places than this one. Just a bad experience!

I think if you go really early in the morning (like 07:30 for them) there are a few like (2 or 3 pool towels) you can have gratis for the stay. Don't quote me on that, but think that to be the case. Also, you can always ask, they probably would. Additionally a short walk away you can purchase beach towels for not much. As far as going to the stadium in Barcelona, not sure but you can probably hop a train to Barcelona at a nearby station and once in Barcelona ride the public transport that is plentiful and not costly.
