The Sumus Hotel Monteplaya & Spa earns praise for its spotless, modern rooms and attentive service, though some guests mention occasional noise and slow service. While the atmosphere impresses many with recent renovations, the nearby noise can be a drawback, and the entertainment receives mixed reviews. Cleanliness is a standout feature, with travelers consistently commending the pristine condition of the hotel.
The central location is popular for its proximity to attractions, despite some concerns about the surrounding buildings. The hotel's amenities, including a variety of food options and a pool, are well-received, although the value is debated, particularly regarding spa prices.

Stayed here the last week in June, absolutely beautiful hotel, really clean and helpful staff. Lift access to all floors, lots of different areas for you to sit and relax.
*If you want a sun lounger, be prepared to have to put up a fight, people reserve them with belongings and towels from the early hours of the morning, there are plenty of other places to sit if the lounger hoggers beat you to it.*
All inclusive is breakfast, lunch and dinner with selected drinks and snacks from the bar area throughout the day, all inclusive items are marked with a circle on the menus. In other reviews I’ve seen other people complaining about bar staff not being attentive enough, however you can walk into the bar area and order a drink and wait instead of waiting for them to come to you. The bar staff were really friendly and hard working.
Food was lovely, lots of variety and the presentation is fantastic! Dining staff were all lovely and attentive.
The bedrooms are really spacious, our room was overlooking a football court of a building next door, at some times it was a little noisy but we weren’t in the room long enough to notice, no noise during the evenings. Rooms are cleaned every day and towels replenished and the bed was really comfortable!
The hotel have a pool towel service, pay €10 and you can use a hotel pool towel and change it daily if needed, at the end of your stay you will receive the €10 back.
There is a sun deck, a relaxing jacuzzi pool and the normal pool with step access. The pool area was immaculate with easy listening music played through the day/night.
I cannot find one fault with the hotel, food, drinks or the staff, everything was perfect.
The entertainment in the hotel was a bit lacklustre and could be updated to meet the needs of the varying ages of guests at the hotel, there was a saxophone player and a singer whilst we were there and also a session of water aerobics.
The hotel is situated in the middle of the strip, lots of places to eat, souvenir shops and a couple of bars but that’s it, once you’ve walked up and down it once that’s it, I believe there is a night club in Santa Susanna 15 minutes up the road.
The beach is accessed by an underpass a couple of minutes walk away, the sand is very gritty and hurts to walk on until you get used to it!
Be careful with the beach, there is a bit of a steep drop a few metres in.
Plenty of loungers, €18 for 2 loungers and an umbrella for all day.
I would recommend looking at excursions and things to do if you like exploring and get bored of the beach and pool after a couple of days, there are 2 close train stations that can take you into Barcelona go around €15.
Overall, beautiful hotel and food in a perfect location!

This hotel is lovely, just across the road and railway by underpass to the beach that is as good as we remembered from our first ever holiday abroad nearly 40 years ago. The surrounding area has obviously been extensively brought up to date (appears to be nearly finished) Hotel has a small pool that tends to be a little crowded at times even with the sun deck up one level. Evening entertainment varies from very good to sometimes poor. Overall a nice relaxing place to spend a week in the sun.

We chose this hotel as it’s near the beach, adults only, all inclusive and with good reviews on here. Firstly the positives, it has a good location, literally on the doorstep for bars, cafes & souvenir shops. The hotel was spotless throughout and the rooms were modern and well equipped. They played decent 70s 80s background music early evening before the entertainment too.
A few things we felt didn’t live up to the four star plus rating though. The food was very repetitive and not very imaginative. Most main courses we had weren’t warm, even if we were first through the door. Desserts were whole fruit, chopped fruit, custard tart, custard sponge cake, custard sponge cake with peanuts on top and so on. Some of the dining staff looked like they didn’t really want to be there, except Sonia who was always smiling, which was a shame. The bar staff made you feel like you were a bit of an inconvenience too, with “one momento”, sometimes they came back and sometimes they didn’t. Reception were helpful when needed, which was appreciated.
There were very few sunbeds around the pool, all of which were reserved by 8am, so we used the relax pool or rooftop area which was ok until it got too hot as there’s no shade up there!
The all inclusive doesn’t include all drinks and cocktails which was disappointing. The room has a mini fridge with two bottles of water in it, there’s tea and coffee with a kettle and the air con in the room works well. Request a room away from the tennis/ basketball courts if you like to sit on your balcony as children use this for hours for football practice after school.
In all, a relaxing break from work but we feel it only deserves a 3 star plus rating and we wouldn’t return.

Just returned after a 2 week All Inclusive stay at this hotel, after seeing excellent reviews and photos on the Tui website. On arrival we were very impressed by the lovely entrance, potted plants etc, although the area outside was run down with buildings covered in graffiti. It is obvious a lot of money has been spent renovating the hotel to a very high standard.
Had to wait 3 hours for our room to be ready so went to sit on the terrace. We were shocked to see some private apartments only a few feet away, overlooking the sunbeds and pool -we failed to notice these on the photos taken by Tui.
We were given instructions on how to use the A/I system regarding drinks and snacks, having to look for a dark blue dot next to the drink which we were allowed,we had to pay extra if we wanted the drinks with a pale blue dot.We have never before been to a hotel where you have to have the room key swiped every time you ask for a drink, even a small bottle of water.Order the wrong item and it is added to your bill.In the dining room the blue dots change to grey!!
Our room was on the first floor, small but clean with enough space for all our clothes, but one suitcase had to be left on the balcony as there was no space in the room for suitcases.Lovely bathroom with excellent shower, always plenty of hot water. Here you can get very friendly with your next door neighbour,as everything can be heard through the vent in the shower.
The room looked out onto 2 blocks of 9 floor flats(different to the ones by the pool)but luckily they were not directly in front of us.Directly under the room was a football and basketball pitch belonging to these flats, together with a childrens play area,so weekend and
evenings were spent listening to footballs being kicked onto fencing by children and adults.Having come to an Adult only hotel it was not what we had expected. Other rooms on the opposite side of the hotel looked directly onto the balconies of the high hotel next door.We went to this hotel some evenings when there was no entertainment or when the DJ was playing.
The food was tasty but mostly served warm, apart from the food cooked by the Chef.We always ate in the outdoor dining area, staff were always friendly.
The towel brigade were out early, with all sunbeds in the sun taken, sometimes towels on beds all morning,no guests to be seen. The CCTV in reception could easily have sorted this problem out..A lot of sunbeds are in the shade for a long part of the day, there is no sun on the terrace after lunchtime. There is no dedicated smoking area, you can smoke wherever you like outside, never been to a hotel where people smoke on sunbeds, this needs to be addressed.
We will not return to this hotel due to its location, surrounded by high rise buildings, and the resort itself which is in dire need of upgrading.

Response from Sumus Hotels Group, Dueño at Sumus Hotel Monteplaya & Spa
Responded Oct 11, 2023
Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed comments about your recent stay at Sumus Monteplaya. It is great to hear that you found the hotel itself to be of a high standard throughout. However, we have read that the location was a negative point to your stay. The soundproofing of the room also seems to be an issue that affected your stay. We note your comments about the problems with the availability of sun loungers and smoking areas. These aspects are certainly important to travellers, and your comments help to paint a more complete picture of the experience. We are sorry to hear that you do not intend to return to this hotel due in large part to the location but should you ever change your mind please know that we would be delighted to see you again. Yours sincerely. Sumus Team.

I write this review on day 4 of a 7 day stay. I will edit it on day 7 if there is more to say.
The hotel itself: rooms modern and well presented but v small. Walk in shower good and powerful. Pool area is small and compact. The pool has a good set of jets for the spa type experience but it’s a dipping pool not a swimming pool. Sun beds are positioned in 2 small areas. The upper sun deck which has zero shade options and is too hot for most so beds always available up there. The other area by the pool has precisely 42 beds crammed together with fixed umbrellas so you can’t really move round. Yes there is reserving of all the best positions but you can usually get a couple of beds up to 11am most days. There is lots of seating close to the pool that people use only if they can’t get a bed. It would surely make much more sense to use this space for sun beds to increase the number available to guests and avoid the crammed in feeling. The pool bar staff, as others have said, are very dower apart from one chap who at least chats with guests. I found the reception staff all helpful and offered the venue tips I mention in this review. The food is pretty average at best. Gourmet is never expected at an AI venue but I think you’d really struggle for a full week or more without going out. Drink prices are average for the area and not hotel price inflated. Also you can exchange lunch for evening meal on HB basis which we much preferred.
Surrounding area: hotel positioned on the main sea facing (if you look beyond the railway line) strip right between Malgrat and Santa Susana (which effectively merge) There is a super restaurant right next door to the hotel (Bodega 2002) where you actually have a table cloth and wine glasses on the table rather than a ketchup bottle. The restaurant situation locally seems an all burger & chips affair but venturing into Malgrat old town has revealed several great looking tapas venues we intend to try and looks a better option all round. Haven’t really found a decent place to get a nice drink (unless you count the Bodega next door which offers an extensive wine selection or ice cold glasses of Estrella (with accompanying tapas if you prefer)
Again you can get fab wine and tapas at ‘La Dida’ on the way up to the old town but completion is fierce for a table. All in all I’m not overly impressed by the hotel or surrounding area. I think the hotel is a 3 star venue not 4. I would give the location 2 stars unless you like Blackpool as a holiday destination.

This is a small hotel in Malgrat de Mar with excellent Staff, just to mention a few Jorge, Nacho, Manu, Luisa, Joao, Julia, Olga. The rooms were cleaned daily and were spotless. We stayed in the superior room 101 with views to the pool, excellent room the only down side was the air con which wasn't very cold but we survived. The hotel was very clean and tidy, plenty of chairs available (some idiots who think they can reserve chairs). The food was excellent and there was plenty of choices for all diet restrictions. The hotel is a short walk to the train station and for 11 euros you can go to the heart of Barcelona (Plaza Catalunya) to explore the city for a day. Don't miss the "Sagrada Familia". There are plenty of bars, restaurants and shops around the hotel and the streets and pavements are cleaned and washed daily. The beach is very good and clean and it's just across the road, there is life guards across the beach and if you are disabled they have spots to accommodate you. It was a great surprise and we loved our stay. We don't normally travel to the same place twice but if we had to we definitely would go back to Sumus Monteplaya.

Great hotel in a great location. Prettiest and most modern room I have stayed in for a while, I had a room facing the hotel next door and did not suffer from any noise problems, was towards the front of the hotel though. Food acceptable, desserts are amazing though and the special seafood evening was amazing. Lovely staff, attentive but not obtrusive.Beach is across the road, accessed by under the road tunnel, lots of shops and restaurants immediately available turning left or right outside the hotel. Train station 10 minutes walk away taking you into Barcelona in about an hour. Local water taxi taking you down the coast to other resorts leaves from the beach.

This was our first foreign holiday after 29 years of wedded bliss. Previously we have taken breaks in UK with our dogs, or UK holidays separately due to owning a Boarding Kennels.
Sumus Monteplaya was booked as part of an All Inclusive package deal with TUI.
The hotel was very good indeed. All staff, from Reception, Dining Room and Bar were friendly and efficient. Some language issues but mostly due to the English Ignorance but all issues overcome. The Superior Room upgrade is definitely recommended but the only drawback was that it overlooked the pool area, which on one had is good(view and early morning sun) and on the other hand bad (noise and smoke from people on the patio directly underneath the balcony).
The buffet service for all meals was pretty good. A wide variety of food, there was always something for both of us to eat (one vegetarian and one meat eater).
There was an issue with the meaning of ‘All Inclusive’ for the first two nights but that was sorted.
The evening entertainment was pretty good on the whole. The Flamenco was fabulous.
The pool is small but clean. There is a spa pool as well. There are plenty of sun beds on two levels also chairs and tables around the lower pool area. Service from the bar area to all levels was somewhat sporadic. Seemingly groups of attractive young ladies attracted more service from the younger male bar staff🤣 but we more mature visitors coped ok.
Malgret de Mar could quite happily be twinned with Mariupol or Blackpool on a wet windy February afternoon. It is either very run down or on the way up. Unless May isn’t considered ‘the season’. 🤷♂️
Pleasant walk down the front towards Santa Suzanna though.
There is a train track that runs directly across the road from the hotel, the noise from which could be a problem but wasn’t for us.
The beach at Malgret de Mar is 100m from the hotel if you could cross the road and train track in a direct line, which you can’t. Although there is a pedestrian subway within 500m making it a reasonable walk, although the beach itself isn’t worth the effort. Stones and coarse sand with a steep drop off into the Med make it rather ‘unfriendly’.
We would happily visit a Sumus Hotel again but not necessarily at Malgret de Mar.
Overall for us as a first Foreign Holiday it was a positive experience.

The hotel was absolutely spotless and the staff were really friendly and helpful. The rooms weren’t huge but plenty big enough for two. The balcony was a comfortable size and had an airier for drying towels and swimwear. Our use of our own balcony was limited for some of our stay due to the blown smoke from a chain-smoking neighbour. The buffet was pretty typical for a Spanish hotel but chef cooked basic cuts of meat freshly for diners. There was a good mix of meat, fish and vege dishes. The all-inclusive service was a bit of a faff as you needed to have your room key read for each order. Not really sure why we had to wear wristbands in that case? There were two levels of all-inclusive so it was also a bit of a faff to check the menus to see what we could have. The pool area was busy, but not overcrowded. However, we preferred to walk to the nearby beaches. The entertainment was pretty good and when it wasn’t to our taste, we wandered round the nearby shops and bars. We would have preferred it if there were more no smoking areas outside as the only one was in the spa garden. All the staff were helpful and friendly. Overall, for what we paid, we were very happy and would go back.

Our transfer was around 50 minutes, there was 3 hotel drop offs. The coach drops you by the bus stop and the hotel is a 15 second walk. On the way back it was much the same
