Stayed at the Hotel Utsikten mid June, and I would happily stay here again, and again! The location of the hotel is high above the village, looking straight down into the Geiranger Fjord! This is as good a view as you'll get anywhere in the world!! There are a couple of purpose built viewpoints around a 5 minute walk further up the hill, if you want to get the best photographs. The staff were the best I have ever encountered around the world. They were lovely! Helpful at all times, smiling, interested in your day, your plans (without being nosey). They wanted to know that you were having a great time, and that's priceless!! The hotel is around a 3-Star rating, and rooms are traditional, so a bit quirky and different, but my room was very comfortable indeed and I always slept well. Breakfast was lovely, with a good selection of foods, hot and cold, juices, cereals, breads, the usual. Only drawback was that there could have been two coffee jugs on the go, as one was soon emptied and had to keep being replaced.. I have seen some reviews being negative about dinner at the hotel. There are limited options down in the village, so to eat in the hotel makes sense. Yes, the menu is limited and doesn't alter every night, but given that Geiranger is somewhat isolated from the nearest city, the hotel probably has to stock en bulk which limits storage etc?? However, that's not a complaint, as they do a grand job. I was sad to leave, and could have done with one more night there, as the surrounding scenery, with the leftover snow / ice was worth so much more exploration... Until the next time, thanks to everyone at the Hotel Utsikten!!

The view onto the fjord below is the main selling point, along with a very good breakfast. But you don't see the view having breakfast, so if like us you have a room looking the other way, be sure to take advantage of the free afternoon tea in the lounge which does have superb views - in fact we used the lounge again the next morning (sipping water!) just for the view. The hotel is quite old and although the rooms have been well done up, our room was quite tight with a squeeze around the bed to get to the loo. In the bathroom there was a buzzing noise which turned out to be the ventilation, anyway we still slept well. No lift might be a problem though they offered to help with cases.

I was only here for 1 night during February when there was heavy snow. The views, even without the winter wonderland are stunning. Fantastic panorama down over the fjord. Check in was very swift and easy, even when I chose to upgrade room. The room upgrade gave me a totally unnecessary cooker and kitchen facilities without offering much more comfort. The room had great views but being next to the road meant a huge noise every hour from the snow plough. I get that this happens in winter, so just a word of warning more than a complaint. Would definitely recommend.

Arrived to Utsikten hotel aka Hotel the view with very high hopes. For the price we were charged, we hoped for nothing but greatness. Check in was alright but the room was very very very small. So small that they don't even provide a simple thing in a hotel room: KETTLE and MUG. The bathroom is so small that we had a hard time to close the door because the door is so close to the toilet bowl. When you tried to open the door a little wider, it hits the shower door. Here comes the worst nightmare we had in the restaurant. We had dinner at their restaurant and we were served bread with 3 types of spread. It also came with a strand of blonde hair. The waitress then took it back, came back with "i hope" a new set of bread and spreads and this time her hair was tied (her hair is really long and it was tricky because it was blonde and the colour blended with the spread). I ordered the lamb shank that has butternut squash puree. with so much joy and excitement because the plating was pretty nice. First i tasted the cut cube butternut squash and it was cold. i tried to just ignore and go on with the next food on the plate. Butternut squash puree was awful. it was sour and i've had many butternut squash and it never tasted like that. i had 2 small scoop to make sure and i had my husband to try. he agreed it wasn't right. I asked the waitress what it was and she wasn't sure and looked through the menu and she said its butternut. So i asked if its supposedly taste like sour and acidic. she answered "i've never had butternut before". She said she will ask the chef. she came back to tell me that the chef tasted it and said nothing is wrong. wow... she then said if i want, they could whip out a new plate without the puree. i took a pass of that and just had the lamb with some of the clean potato puree. i knew something aint right with the sour puree. in the middle of the night my stomach was all feeling so bad and sore. My next journey from here on was a pain. The pain lingered for 4 days. I don't see a point to tell them about it because they couldn't even take a single note about customer commenting about their sour butternut. I didnt mention about the cold cube butternut because i didnt want them to think i ask too much. for the price i paid for that plate NOK270++, we expect a lot from it. Beware of their food because i doubt they are freshly made but rather frozen and microwaved. best to go down to find a better food with better price. Food poison is no joke!

Incredible location and view of the Fjord. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Our room was not modern at all but clean and comfortable. The view we had made up for it. The hotel has a great history and the photos that line the hotel and room walls tell an interesting story. Breakfast was very good, lots of choice. Dinner was awful. I would definately visit the hotel again.
