the only negative was the traffic noise from the road which cuts unseen across the view of the village. that said, this is a beautiful property in easy walking distance of the village and a world class view. we thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay, and Florence who manged the place was a perfect host. nothing was too much trouble and she gave helpful advice about restaurants and located a superb horse riding place as the one we had planned to use was closed. there are shared facilities but each suite has its own kitchen and dining area. the cemetery next door has the grave of albert camus (unkept but marked on a plan). the luberon valley is easily accessed from here including bonnieux up in the hills. Lourmarin is full of bars and restaurants. highly recommended.
We have stayed at Les Olivettes three different times. It is always worth returning. What do we love? -- the fabulous owners, multi-lingual but English-speakers by birth, the authentically decorated home where each apartment is unique and special, the pool and cabana area to enjoy in the heat of the day, and last but not least, a walkable distance into the lovely village of Lourmarin for dinner. There are so many delicious choices! Then after the dinner and local wine, you can meander by foot back to Les Olivettes. So choice! This is a central location and we have explored so many of the hill towns, small cities and over to Avignon, Aix-en-Provence and Cassis as day trips.
I would highly recommend Les Olivettes as a place to stay for anyone interested in visiting the Luberon area of Provence this summer. Les Olivettes provides the perfect blend of cozy hospitality--with all the comforts and ease of a domestic home base--and proximity to the Village of Lourmarin, with its combination of history, village buzz (lots of shops and cafes/restaurants along the winding cobblestone streets) and local vineyards. We were lucky to stay at this intimate and charming guesthouse/inn for a week in early September. The appeal of this former farmhouse is largely due to its authentic and seasoned country aesthetic, which includes an airy common room with a large picture window overlooking the property's olive trees and, beyond that, the Chateau de Lourmarin (which dates back to the 14th century), the village church and hilltop clock tower in the distance. Notably, the Chateau offers daily tours and has an on-site cave where it's possible to purchase local wines and other related products. Each suite at Les Olivettes has a private terrace with its own scenic view, a kitchenette and laundry facilities. Although we didn't really make use of it, there is a large and sunny common kitchen, as well as an outdoor swimming pool for those who like to either take a dip or sit poolside relaxing with a book or perhaps some watercolour paints (like I did). Every morning, fresh baguettes, croissants and pain au chocolat were delivered to our suite for breakfast - such a treat! I will never forget our time at Les Olivettes and often think of our regular evening walks down the country road, past the olive fields and the chateau, and then along the cobblestone streets that led us in to the village for dinner. Memorable time spent in a magical place...…
We have been visiting Les Olivettes for what must be 10 years now, sometimes we even manage two visits a year! Cannot recommend enough, have tried to find other places to stay on par with Les Olivettes, but just found this impossible! Given up, why try to improve perfection! The Mas is beautiful, the rooms fab, the surrounding gardens and pool fabulous. What makes the place extra special is the location, quiet but a 10 min leisurely walk into village life.
We spent three nights here and enjoyed it very much. All rooms are different and we thought all were great each having its own charm. Most rooms have beautiful views of the village. Each of the rooms have small kitchen areas. We also made use of the main kitchen as well. Easy walk into the village. Beds very nice. Bathroom also nice. Basket of breads each morning. Nice common area. As close to having your own home in Provence as you could get.
