traveling to catch a plane at CDG - overnighted at le chateau. 4 adults (parents, adult son and GF). booked a room for 4. top of the circular staircase in the old building. no lift. the room opens out to the trees and lawn. stunning sunset. don't use google maps we were directed to the back property! the room can sleep 5. the bath towels are cozy, the robes of good weight, teas were great.did i say the sunset through the long drapes was amazing. at dinner there was some sort of business meeting with a table of about 12 having dinner. dinner was amazing. well paced, the staff made sure they understood how the food was to be presented. we're sharers so one dish has multiple eaters. the staff ensured adequate plates, forks, kept the water coming, poured the wine. very professional. the food was even better. two had steaks -the tenderest tastiest cooked to perfection pieces of meat . they raved. they ate tiny pieces to prolong the treat! i had cod with a flavor so delicious i wanted to lick the plate (bad manners, i know.). i also ordered the fois gras (also frowned on, i know) but so rich, so delicious we couldn't finish the two slices. the chef's choice dessert was a whimisical, fun and not going to spoil the wonder of it! i know you don't tip in france, crass americans who show appreciation by leaving a generous tip. we tried to cut down on the crass-ness by not leaving too large a tip, how else to show our appreciation for such a treat? we could have stood up and cheered!

Nice location, Great & old building with a beautiful view. The food was nice. However, my room was not as clean as expected in a 3 Stars Hotel. In addition, I was not expected to be treated like a child while drinking & talking with my colleagues outside at 11.00pm. The way we were asked to either go to sleep or get into the building was not polite at all. I would not recommend this place at all.

When visiting this well hidden Gem tucked away near Europe’s Horse Mecca of Chantilly, whatever you do, don’t ask for a poached egg! Château de la tour is a lovely location, with a heritage style hotel, clean rooms, brass knobbed keys, and a classic French kitchen. The staff are competent but some of them at least with the well known French efficiency which those of us who are not French might describe as inflexibility arrogance or rudeness. Im Irish, I have been travelling globally on international business across Europe and Asia for 25 years. I love france and I’ve been committed to the beautiful “Le Château De la Tour” since 2007 during my biannual trips to Chantilly. We probably buy 30 bed nights a year here, and rent office space when carrying out recruitment interviews so I guess we spend maybe €10k annual with this hotel and over the decade that adds up. The question is at what stage do you not accept “c'est impossible”. It’s impossible! I have recently had gastric surgery and on Thursday night I explained to the waiter “I had surgery recently and I can only eat small amounts of food which are high in protein and soft to eat. Otherwise I will be very sick! What can you recommend?” Google translate helped! A soup and smoked salmon on toast would have been perfect at this €173 per accommodation but the response and I quote exactly was “non monsieur il est impossible”, - it’s impossible - I settled for a goats cheese bruschetta and went to bed feeling distinctly nauseous! The next morning 8 am I was joined by my colleague for breakfast and I requested two poached eggs and the knee jerk answer was “Non” whatever you see is what we have! I explained again “Je me suis fait opérer récemment et je ne peux manger que de petites quantités d'aliments riches en protéines et molles. Sinon je serai très malade!” (I had surgery recently and I can only eat small amounts of food which are high in protein and soft to eat. Otherwise I will be very sick!) The answer again was totally inflexible, no apology- there is no one in the kitchen! I pleaded with my colleague who again pleaded with the waiter- but again “No it’s impossible- the kitchen is closed”. I even offered to poach the two eggs myself but eventually and totally frustrated I abandoned breakfast and packed my bags to leave. At reception checking out.... I explained how unhappy I was with their flexibility. Again no apology, no flexibility and when I requested that the least she can do is to discount breakfast off the €173 hotel bill for one night, this was also impossible. This isn’t normal any more in France. During my 9 day visit to France I stayed in two other hotels and my special dietary request were greeted with “but of course Monsieur”. So my conclusion is that Le Château de la Tour is one of the last bastions of French culinary inflexibility. Well good luck with that, inflexibility shouldn’t pay, so Au revoir Le Château de la Tour! The hotel venue can be a little difficult to find because of its situation around a bend outside the village. The hotel consists of several buildings - the main one dates back to 1913. It has flowered balconies and the extensive surrounding grounds are well maintained. The reception is situated in a side building which has a more casual atmosphere. The breakfast / bar room is rather dark but it opens onto a pleasant patio where you can have a drink and admire the grounds. There is also a small open-air swimming pool. We booked a superior room on the first floor in the contemporary annexe. There is no lift so be prepared to carry up your own luggage. The room was medium size, clean and practical but we felt it lacked comfort and refinement. It was in contrast with the main building. The melamine headboard was too large for the size of the double bed and the bedside lamps were positioned too far away to read comfortably in bed. The room had an air-con standing unit which was a plus point as the weather was very hot.The bathroom facilities were somewhat disappointing: no walk-in shower but instead a bath with a hand-held shower above - at times the plumbing was rumbling and the hotel promised to investigate. Perhaps the rooms in the main building are smarter and more comfortable but we did not have the opportunity to see one. We were able to sleep with the window open as it was quiet outside. The staff was pleasant and helpful but we were annoyed by a cleaning lady hoovering nearby while people were having breakfast. In contrast, we had dinner on the lovely terrasse of the restaurant attached to the main hotel building and it was a pleasant experience. The service was good and the food expensive but enjoyable.
