It was a warm afternoon in December, when we checked in at Madikeri Misty Homestay. It was a nice and cosy room with attached bathroom and an extra bed for the three of us to accommodate comfortably in one room. The room overlooked a beautiful view of mountains and a small garden. The room and the washroom were both spacious, neat and clean, with hot water facilities round the clock. They provided us with complimentary breakfast in the morning. The coffee and the curd deserve a special mention owing to the excellent quality. One can get dinner at Madikeri Misty but lunch has to be taken outside, in the city.
As per location and connectivity, it was 3 kms from the heart of the city and so placed in a comparatively silent locality with the beauty of nature all around.
Auto services are frequently available to go to the city, from the National Highway just next to the Homestay, for Rs 50/- or Rs. 60/- Anything that they charge more than this is not the correct fare and one must not agree to paying extra.
What I thoroughly enjoyed at Madikeri Misty is the terrace which can be a Haven to birdwatchers since the birds can be seen singing and chirping around this area throughout the day..but the best time is in the morning. I would like to thank Mr. Joseph sincerely for being so kind as to drop me at the Madikeri bus stand early in the morning from where I could catch the bus to Ooty. Hope to visit again!

If your main purpose is to have a place to sleep at night, this is the best place for it. The rooms and bathrooms are clean. we got hot water whenever required. The food(breakfast) was ok. There are no balconies for rooms and the one you see in the photos is the terrace. The hosts are very friendly and gave us recommendations for visiting places. This place is very near to madikeri town. Thank you Mr joseph and Mrs Regina, we will defenitly visit again.

My friends and I travelled last weekend to madikeri and honestly, we were quite excited to stay at Madikeri misty. We booked the deluxe room a week in advance and paid 100% of the money just as the website suggested.
We made several calls to the owner to confirm payments as well as called him in sequence to ensure that the room was booked. To all this, all he could say was "Ya, Ya it is booked" and dismiss us as if we were over the top paranoid.
On reaching Kushalnagar ( a stop before Madikeri) We called to confirm and the same response (ya, Ya)
On reaching Madikeri to ask for directions to the homestay, he changed his tune and had booked the room for someone else as well.
On reaching the homestay ( thank God for google maps), the owner wasn't there and the worker connected us through to him over the phone and he yelled at us saying that we didnt book the place for this week but for the previous week and we did not show up.
Since three of us, all women were going for the trip, we were very particular about booking the place, that too a week in advance.
He refused to speak with us nor give us our money back and accused us of lying and cheating him.
It was only after my husband spoke to him over the phone, he gave us another option ( his brother's estate) which gave a cold feeling altogether, nevertheless, we were grateful!
My advice is to avoid this place and there are plenty of hotels and home stays in that line itself. I agree with the other people who gave this place a terrible rating!

We (a group of 5 friends) stayed here for 2 nights in early May 2015. The place, location is fine. The rooms are clean. But where it goes all wrong is the service which they give. Absolutely cold and careless. There's no welcome, there's no warmth and there's not a single attempt to show that they want a repeat/referral business. If you don't want guest, please don't start such businesses. Food is priced exorbitantly, they even refuse to serve you tea/coffee apart from the complimentary Morning ones. They also treat you as if you're in a hostel; no sounds, lighting, timing restrictions and all those crazy stuff which you least expect at a holiday place. Old age tourists may give it a try, all others.....there are so many other options around....please STAY AWAY!!!

I had planned a 3 days weekend trip to coorg with my parent, and after seeing so many good reviews online i called the host Joseph and booked the place for 2 days. Luckily i didn't book it online so i didnt make any advance payment.
The place is located bang on the mangalore-mysore road and it was a bit difficult to locate as i have not been to coorg before. The host were not that help in guiding the way and they expected that somehow we will find it which is quite difficult in the hill roads. Coming to the review about the place Its not even close to what is shown in the pictures. The house is not maintained properly. The rooms were damp and shabby but clean. The bathroom was clean. There is no balcony as shown in the pictures, but you get a good view of the hills and the scenery from the window. The bankets were dusty and being allergic to dust i had a pretty bad night...had to resort to medication to stop the sneezing.... The TV doesnt work most of the time and when to switch it on and nothing happened i called the land lady and she started to accuse me of spoiling it which was absolutely ridiculous... finally i managed to switch it on but there was no signal..and the land lady told that it was a cable connection and used to get disconnected most of the times. .but they themselves had a dish connection in the hall which was working.. They make you to have dinner by 8 pm and the tv also doent work...what do u expect to do aft 8 30 pm... We ordered mutton curry for dinner..the mutton was close to a chewing gum and we just had to gulp it down.
In all a terrible experience. Next day we decided to cut our trip short by a day and moved on to orange county (will review that separately).
It was supposed to be a refreshing trip which ended up making me sneeze 20 times in 1 hr for 2 days (unless i resort to strong medication)

Homestays are about the warmth, hospitality and local flavour of the place. Madikeri Misty homestay is nothing of that sort! - they have 5 rooms, very very basic and mostly musty, especially the one in the basement - were very nonoperative especially the support staff. the owners left on day 2 of our arrival. the place runs mostly on generator because of power shortage. the staff boy just announced that he had to sleep at 10.30 and hence the generator was shut. we had gone there for a get together and a special occasion. we were left in the living room without lights or fan. he then insisted that he had to sleep in the hall where we had gathered and practically threw us out - since we had small kids, we had requested for non spicy food. since we also wanted to make their job easier, we asked them to make aloo ki subzi. they gave us boiled potato cut in round shape just marginally cooked in oil and with no garnish or spice or any masalas! the chilly beef fry was tasteless...and so was most of the food! - we had planned to leave at 8am and hence requested breakfast at 7am. however we left at 9.30. the cook grumbled and told us that because of us she had to wake up at 5am to cook and we did not stick to the time - on day one we were given a choice and laundry list for breakfast as option. on day 2 when we wanted poori bhaji which the kids wanted to eat we were simply told its not possible. then we asked for idli, they said we dont have idli atta (that too in south india!). after much bargaining the cook agreed on poori sabzi.
While Mr & Mrs Joseph are friendly (though don't really do out of the way which most homestay owners demonstrate), the staff is very rude.
Have stayed in many homestays across India and this place it just a commercial place being used to ride the tourism wave during season. Nothing close to a homestay!
