Enjoy this unique wilderness location as it was meant to be experienced - under a canvas roof in the grand old safari tradition. Our classic tented camp is environmentally friendly and low impact, built to complement and not compete with its natural setting. The self contained guest tents are set on raised wooden platforms that provide stunning views of Lake Mburo, while the main lodge building is a luxurious blend of natural rock, wood and grass.

It was truly the best experience my boyfriend and I had in a safari lodge in Uganda! We went there for Easter break and found more than we expected.

First, the tents are truly luxury ones, they are basically a bedroom, a separate dressing room, toilette and shower...all inside one tent! You can have a hot shower any time of the day.
Second, the food is AMAZING. The chef prepares special meals for every course - I am vegetarian and my boyfriend is not, so they prepared special meals separately. Everything is homemade, even the bread that was super fresh and delicious. Also, before breakfast, they woke us up with coffee and biscuits on our veranda.
Lastly, the manager and service helped us organizing all our activities since we didn't plan anything in advance. They even lent us rent their car to do the safari games.

What else can I say, an amazing and relaxing experience!

We stayed at this lovely tented camp the last night of our 12 day safari, and it was the absolute best way to end our trip! The staff was incredibly hospitable and kind, the tent was a DREAM, and the location was top notch! Also, we had some of the very best food of our trip here!

The tents themselves were very comfortable and felt like an authentic safari experience! In fact, we were able to view the milky way from our porch and during the night we heard a leopard walk by!

Lastly, the view of Lake Mburu was to die for. I strongly recommend Kimbla tented camp to anyone who is looking for an authentic safari experience with suburb service and accommodations!

A warm welcome, complete with log fire, after a long day's travelling from Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, what a treat! A beautiful living/dining area where you enjoy good home cooking while gazing at the night sky. My tent was very spacious and comfortable, complete with mosquito net and the shower they set up for me was fabulous! Thanks to Isaac and his team. Highly recommended.

KImbla-Mantana tented camp, also known as Mburo luxury tented hotel.
Accommodation: Large sturdy tent on wooden platform. The tent was under a huge tarpaulin, and had a total of four rooms. Very spacious, well appointed, and comfortable. In the bedroom there was a double bed and a single, both with nets. Also racks for suitcases, a dressing table and bedside tables. There was a wardrobe in the second room, with some racks and rails. More than enough, and very clean. There is a balcony with views into the bush, and across the distant lake. Monkeys and warthogs wander by was you sit sipping drinks.
En-suite: The second room had a sink and mirror. Cold water from a jug, hot water from a thermos flask! It works! There was a third, smaller room (made from the inner compartments of the tent) containing a proper flushing toilet, and fourth room containing a shower. Hot water is provided by a man, who fills a huge funnel outside, and hoists it into the trees. Just tell him when you want to bathe, and remind them at reception if he is late. This is true camping, luxury style; although it is bizarre, it is great fun, and quite comfortable.
Electricity: Generator provides illumination in tents until you turn in. Torches (flashlights) are provided for nocturnal needs, and cameras, etc can be charged at the bar, but we did not need to use this facility. Wi-fi? Phone coverage? No, you're not listening, this place is deep into the bush! You don't need electronic entertainment out here - but in an emergency the staff will sort something out, so just relax.
Catering: Meals are taken in the open-air restaurant, which is under a huge thatched roof, and has soft furnishings as well as dining tables. Warthogs live underneath, and baboons live in the clump of trees in front. A hippo came and grazed on the lawn as we ate dinner, which was a four course set menu, and all delightful. The waiter amused us with his cup-a-soup trick: he inverts a plate, then covers a cup, inverts the pair, and slowly raises the cup to reveal delicious soup. Each course was leisurely, gorgeous. The bar was expensive, Nile Special cost 7000, Bacardi 8000 per tot, but as it is miles from anywhere, this was tolerated. We had early morning tea, a wonderful game drive as dawn broke, then returned for breakfast and showers. Breakfast was fruits, cereal, and cooked eggs with sausages, beans, onions and mushrooms. Absolutely superb food, and immaculate service.
Environment: The camp is in the middle of the national park, with no boundary between you and the wildlife. Tents are sensibly spaced to give each one a sense of isolation, with-out being too far from the car-park or restaurant. It is isolated from other humans, but the animals are on your doorstep. Most are harmless, but zip the tent firmly to keep baboons out. (Hippos don’t climb steps).
Location: In the middle of the park! This park is half-way from Kampala Airport to Gorilla-trekking area or Queen Elizabeth park, and makes a great stop-over. We were sad to leave, and wished we had planned a two-night visit. It remains our favourite of the nine hotels we used during our two week tour. Beyond the park, the towns of Masaka and Mbarara, each about 2 hours away, offer usual range of banks and shops.
Activities: Game drive in Lake Mburo National park. Ideal for Impala, Zebra, and maybe a lion. There are plenty of other big grazers, monkeys and baboons, and lots of pretty birds. As a bonus, you get a game drive on the way in and way out (same track). Night drives also possible, also wildlife walks. This is close to the equator, so be sure to see the water trick (water drains clockwise from a sink in northern hemisphere, anti-clockwise in south, and just goes straight down when exactly on the line). Look out for large concrete do-nuts to mark the spot, and ask in the shop. It costs just 10,000 to see it – money well spent.
Overall: A magical place, thoroughly enjoyable, and excellent in every aspect. Expensive but well worth it.

I was impressed by Kimbla Mantana Lake Mburo Camp! I stayed here for 1 night during my one-month Uganda trip. It’s a very charming and peaceful place with very clean and spacious tents.

The lodge has an amazing view overlooking Lake Mburo and the surrounding area. It’s a perfect spot to photograph a beautiful African sunset over the lake. And because it’s located within the national park you’ll feel very close to nature. There is WIFI available in the main (dining and lounge) area; not in the tents itself.

The tents have an en-suite bathroom with a bush shower, meaning there’s no running water but one of the staff members will fill a bucket with 20 litres of hot water. A showerhead is attached to the bottom of the bucket, so it’s basically like a normal shower. It provides enough warm water to wash your hair and body and it was actually one of the best showers I’ve had during my trip!

This camp is one of those small gems where I felt immediately at home. I found it hard to leave this place and when I come back in the future I would at least stay for 2 nights. One night just wasn’t enough for me. I would recommend everyone to visit Uganda’s smallest national park and this luxury tented eco camp - on a hilltop within the park - is the perfect place to absorb the beauty of Lake Mburo National Park.

Our visit Lake Mburo National Park was meant more as a stop over from the Virungas mountains in Rwanda to our final lodge this trip in the vicinity of Jinja. So we planned one night there, to make the road trip a bit more comfortable. I can tell you that we were really sorry for ourselves that we did it like this. The park really deserves a full visit, not a quick one night stop over. It is a beautiful, small national park where you can find quite a few animals that you do not find anywhere else in Uganda, like impala.

The lodge is really the type of lodge we like. Not too fancy, but spacious, clean and comfortable. It is a full tent lodge, which really gives you the feel of being out in the bush, certainly at night. You can hear all sorts of animals when you are lying in your bed. These animals can be very close indeed, since the lodge is not fenced and we have seen quite a few animals while sitting in the restaurant for dinner or breakfast. You have a small porch in front of your tent and that porch is overlooking Lake Mburo in the distance and the park surrounding it. You really have the national park at your feet when you stand out there on the porch.

Again, staff is very friendly, like all places we visited this trip. They adapt quickly to changing situations and sometimes are even a step ahead of you. We did an early morning walking safari the day we left and it was the intention to do breakfast right after the walk and then have a shower and pack our bags. But it really started to rain when we were walking and when we returned to the lodge, they already had the warm water available and asked if we preferred a shower before breakfast. We did.
The shower is something special, by the way. There is no hot running water at the tents, so they provide warm water in a canvas bag when you order a hot shower and when they have delivered the water, you can have your shower.

Dinner is a set menu, but well before dinner time they ask you if there are certainly dietary wishes that they need to consider. The food they served was really very good.
The same it true for breakfast. You indicate the evening before what you would like for breakfast and that is then available at the agreed time the next morning. Again, breakfast was really very good as well.

We visited in December 2011, and revisited during April 2012. The camp remains excellent - great tents, with good showers & toilets, and food was really good. The staff are warm & caring, and genuinely want you to enjoy yourselves. We were the only guests for one night of our stay, then one of several on following 3 nights, and the standard of service was high throughout.

This was our last overnight stop of a two-week tour in Uganda. It was the only place we stayed which was actually inside a National Park. We were certainly close to nature, with warthogs and impala being regular visitors around the site.

The main building has lots of comfy seating and restaurant tables. Food was provided within a set menu, and it was fine but nothing special in my view. There were only two couples staying at the camp when we were there, and it was extremely quiet (no music).

The rooms are in huge tents, set up on wooden decking that includes a verandah with chairs. Inside there is a large bedroom area with floor-to-ceiling mosquito nets, a dressing area and cubicles for the shower and toilet. This place is set up as an eco-camp, so I understand the idea behind conserving water, but I found the lack of running water a bit tricky. There was plumbing for a flush toilet, but no tap over the sink. Instead there was a jug of cold water, a Thermos of warm water and the shower was operated by asking staff to fill the container when you are ready. It's a nice idea, but it was difficult to shave or wash hands, and I daren't wash my hair in case the shower water ran out before I'd finished.

It was an interesting and novel experience to stay here, and I loved the feeling of being in the natural environment. One night was enough though. For a longer stay I'd choose Rwakobo Rock which is nearby.

Stayed here in July 2013. Once again, I arrived late - it was already getting dark. The setting is incredible. Service was wonderful and staff is highly attentive - then, I was the only guest for the night which was most awesome as it was so quiet. I really enjoyed my stay.

In the morning when I returned for breakfast after my early morning "walking safari," I was pleasantly surprised that my tent had already been cleaned! Great service. The water for the sink had been replenished as well as a fresh thermos of hot water! Food was good; I had a very relaxing dinner and breakfast. At night, I could hear all sorts of animal noises around my tent - incredible. Bed was comfy and the tent is just too cute inside!

I would most definitely return and highly recommend this place!

"I recommend taking a torch with a hanging clip, so you can take it to the bathroom with you, as due to nature of place, you might be showering in the dark at the end of the day, or early morning and there is no lighting in the shower and toilet sections of the tent."
