The staff are qualified and hospitable, they know how to make you feel at home and comfortable. The hotel area is spotlessly clean and attended to the smallest detail. The food is rich in flavors and sensations. Visit it and you will have an incredible experience...

At first sight our room looked pleasant and appeared clean. The bathroom was particularly dated.. it’s no wonder that there are no pictures shown of it online! We had requested two beds to be made up for our children - there were camp beds with mattresses which were absolutely rock hard, even the children complained that their beds were as hard as wood (which was no exaggeration!). After arriving we ventured down to the restaurant for a light supper before bed. The food was pleasant but the prices charged were extortionate for what was served, a small (starter sized) rocket salad 22€ glass of wine 11€ (especially for an absolutely tiny quantity-not even a 125ml measure), fruit juices for children 12€ each! These prices are far above any beyond even 5star London prices and due to the remote location of the hotel there is no where else close to eat. Back in the room our eldest son was still hungry from the small portion of pasta he was served so we ordered a single portion of chicken nuggets and one further glass (dribble) of wine… 6 nuggets were served on their own with some ketchup and the bill for that was €31! We noticed a small self catering kitchen in the room and decided to go to the shops the next day which were told was not far away and a 1km walk. After walking for close to 3 hours on the side of the road in the blistering sun with two young children, we finally spotted a car hire garage and hired a car… staying at Salty houses there is no other option as the hotel is totally isolated. When we returned there was no parking space as our allocated parking was taken, we parked elsewhere and were immediately hounded to move our car as soon as our space was free. (This happened twice with our space being taken by a restaurant guest and us being hounded to move our car as soon as they had left). We tried to cook that evening and the kitchen was so ill equipped this was a difficult task! Further the glasses and plates provided were dirty so we needed to wash them before use and there wasn’t even enough cutlery for 4 of us. We had brought the children buckets and spades for the beach, but due to the high winds that day we decided to spend the afternoon by the hotel pool instead. My wife and I were particularly nervous when we got down there as there is a dwarf wall running the length of the perimeter of the sun chair area and pool edge with no railings or safety provisions for children with a sheer drop down to the dirt road below. We settled down and the children sat in the shallow end of the pool with their buckets and spades. They were playing quietly and emptying water into each other’s buckets, making some splash (as small children do in a pool whilst enjoying themselves). After 15 minutes of having the barman stare at us he came over to my wife and asked her to stop the children splashing and no toys were allowed in the pool. He said the restaurant floor was getting wet… we need to point out here that the tables are positioned no more than 30cm away from the edge of the pool, any closer and they would be in the water! In addition there was only one person in the restaurant right in the opposite corner. I asked the barman (in Greek) what had happened as I saw my wife was so upset and he told me that my children had splashed the whole restaurant (not true) and out of 100 children that had been there mine were the worst. We were so shocked we gathered up the children and left. My wife was so upset by the whole incident that she wanted us to ask for a refund and move to a different hotel. I went down that afternoon to speak to the owner who told me that the barman didn’t say what he did and I misunderstood what he said (I’m Greek myself and greek is my mother tongue). When I told her of my wife’s upset she said she would speak to her to resolve matters. She made no effort whatsoever and for the rest of the holiday she totally ignored us, even leaving the breakfast area when we came down for breakfast. We were so upset by the incident that we didn’t dare go down to the pool for the next 4 days and instead filled our days with driving around Mykonos to be away from the place, leaving early and coming back late. We only dared venture into the pool again on our last 2 days we felt it wasn’t fair for the children to miss out any further. These were bad days for the wind and without any windbreaker in place we were constantly chasing blown away items and had 4 full (expensive!) drinks blown over with no offer of replacement. We ordered on one day a single portion of chips as a snack for the children and two chocolate milks (in the menu at 4€ each) and the bill came to 26€ - upon closer inspection they had charged (in addition to the extortionate price for the chips) for two small servings of ketchup with them! We did not see the owner whilst we were there and then noticed the CCTV cameras around the pool and it became clear that she was watching us and avoiding the communal areas when we were there. On the last day new guests came down and there no free chairs so the owner came by the pool and spoke to the barman, suddenly the (already loud) techno music behind our sunchairs was turned up to an intolerable volume so we had no choice but to go & leave our chairs. As we were packing up with the music blaring my 2 year old son cut his foot on some glass on the floor, my other son grabbed a clean towel from the basket and was met by an awful death stare from the owner and despite a fairly substantial amount of blood the barman came over to sweep the floor and made no offer of first aid, with his primary concern being the towel and wiping the floor to prepare the area for the new guests to take our chairs. Some other points that we feel guests should be aware of are; the bed sheets were changed just once in 7 days- despite one set of sheets being dirty from a nappy leakage the bed was remade with the same dirty sheets for a 2 further days. We were given 2 bath towels and 2 hand towels daily for 4 guests. We were given just one roll of toilet paper per day for 4 people. The air conditioning was turned off every time the room was serviced leaving us to return to a hot room. The beds were uncomfortable and only made with a single sheet and no blanket. My son and wife had a stomach upset one day after breakfast and it was clear that the croissants were reheated and there various dishes served each day for breakfast which were made from old food from the night before. The flies were intolerable and there was no effort by the hotel to rid the dining areas of them - we actually ended up buying our own citronella candle just to try and eat in peace! All in all, for just shy of £3000 for 7 nights, this place was a disaster. We felt watched, judged and thoroughly uncomfortable. We felt we had to make ourselves scare and couldn’t enjoy the pool on holiday as we had hoped. It totally ruined the second part of our holiday (having come from the most wonderful hotel and experience in Crete). This is absolutely not a family friendly hotel as advertised, they want to appeal to adults and as it’s so isolated they try rip you off with their overpriced food and drinks once you’re there (for reference lovely restaurants in central Mykonos were cheaper every time to eat!) There is blaring loud music all day and evening and the owner is clearly trying to promote a party vibe. Worst of all was the attitude of the owner and staff towards us once we’d dared to complain. As a Greek I am embarrassed with the lack of hospitality shown by this place, this is not in our culture. My wife and I both wish we’d flown home after after Crete and avoided coming to Salty Houses. We will never return.

We had a lovely 7 day stay here and the scenery around the hotel is beautiful, overlooking the bay and the Aegean ocean. Beaches are within walking distance and there is also a pool sharing the same stunning views. Rooms are simple and compact with everything you need. The restaurant is of a high standard and fairly priced; breakfast is continental style with lovely homemade touches every day. The signature cocktails are A* All the staff are very friendly and welcoming, always happy to help and really attentive so 5 star service at all times, really can't speak highly enough... A really good place to stay if you are looking for a family friendly area of Mykonos plus the rest of the island is all easily reachable by bus, taxi or hire car. Highly recommended.
