Katamah is MAGICAL and Monika and Simon were the most awesome hosts ever! We fell in love with this place and extended our stay at Katamah by an extra week! This is the perfect place if you are looking for something funky and chill, and off the beaten path. It's a backpackers paradise, or for anyone looking for a little adventure...to get away from the resort scene and party scene, and actually experience REAL Jamaica. The town and community itself is awesome - very laid back and friendly. We had a great time just relaxing on the property, hanging out with locals and other travelers, and doing some local excursions (like Black River, Pelican Bar, YS Falls). Moni and Simon are such lovely and awesome people, and made us feel right at home. Moni even took us out to hit up some local stores and farmers stands, and to find an ATM as we'd run out of cash....she ended up driving us over an hour away to find an ATM...all the while happily enjoying the excursion and filling us in on some of the local knowledge. Simon also saved us big time, when we discovered our rental car had a flat tire, and he took it to a local shop to get fixed - saving us hundreds of dollars that the rental company would have charged. We had a a great time hanging out with them and guests, playing games, cooking meals, and enjoying good conversation. Also there is an onsite yoga teacher who does morning classes! Moni also gave us a tour of all of the different rooms (Sept is the slow season, so most rooms were open), and we were really impressed with how much character each room had, and all the thought and effort they put into making each room special, beautiful, and comfy. The Maya suite in particular is AMAZING...you can hear the ocean roar and it was by far the best way to enjoy being by the beach. My husband spent a lot of time in the hammock on the covered porch, reading his book while listening to the waves and smelling the salty air. 100% we hope to come back, as it was a magical stay, and we hope to return regularly. Cannot recommend this place highly enough! PS. This is a place for folks who are ok with being in nature...there are gecko lizards around and sand - if you can't handle a little bit of a rustic adventure, then stick to the resorts...but you'll be missing out on an authentic experience.

This is our little bit of heaven, when we get to leave Kingston for a few nights. We have been staying at Katamah for several years now. It’s funky and fun. Moni and Simon have worked tirelessly to improve and constantly upgrade. You always meet likeminded and interesting people. We usually stay in the Laila, which now has a great bath, which I used constantly in our 90/95 degree temperatures. Try it…. You will love it….

Katamah is a dream. My boyfriend and I stayed last year at the beginning of the pandemic. It was a haven and became a home away from home while we were stranded in Jamaica due to lockdown. The owners couldn’t have been more welcoming and accommodating throughout our stay. The setting is magical, stepping out onto a long stretch of Jamaican beach from the private gardens and a stones throw from the best local and eateries - Diners Delight being our favorite place to eat on the island. The accommodation itself it thoughtfully constructed and decorated, most of it being hand built by the owners themselves. Each room has its own unique vibe and views into the gardens or onto the beach. We ended up staying in two different rooms on separate occasions and honestly felt like each were perfectly thought through and designed. Thank you so much Katamah, we can’t wait to come back xxx

We stayed in the room called Laila. It had an enormous bedroom with a 4 poster bed with mosquito nets, plus a single bed, a conservatory area with seating, a well equipped kitchen area, a bathroom with a freestanding bath plus another bathroom area with a great shower. I absolutely loved the room which was decorated with beautiful Morrocan furniture and a verandah area with a hammock and books. The whole site is dotted with hammocks and comfortable seating as well as an "honesty kitchen" where you help yourself to drinks. On the first morning the owner Simon came down and had a long chat with us - he is a very friendly and welcoming guy. My favourite memory is waking up to the sound of the waves as the property is on a beautiful beach and having a fantastic massage in the grounds by the lovely Empress who runs a portable spa service. I cannot wait to go back again.

Katamah Beachfront Guesthouse was the perfect place for hubby and me to celebrate my birthday, especially during a pandemic. The beach is litterly a stone's throw away, we could hear the waves from our comfy room. It was so serene, so calm and we had great time. The plus is you can't go hungry, there are tons of restaurants in close proximity or you can buy groceries and use the kitchen on the property. Everything is fresh and clean. Big up to Moni and Simon, lovely hosts...they made us feel safe and welcomed. I can't wait to go back. I definitely recommend you book a stay at Katamah, especially if you're looking for a quiet and restful time.
