From the booking process through checkout, Jake’s is absolutely incredible. The staff is extremely helpful, kind, and hospitable. The rooms and views are ahhhhhmazing! We originally booked an ocean view but upon arrival upgraded to an oceanfront bungalow and so happy we did. We stayed in Seapuss 2, which has a deck overlooking the ocean. Falling asleep each night to the sound of waves crashing was the best! And their COVID protocol is on point. Will definitely be back!
Had a last mini mute get away here with my family and my goodness this resort is wonderful. We stayed in Mussels and the views were breath taking. We usually do the 4/5* all inclusive on the island but this was a breath of fresh air literally. We were just at peace here. The fellow guests and locals at the resort were so lovely. The staff were so friendly and helpful. I had many conversations and laughs here. Management never spoke to us. Food was very tasty - no complaints there. I’m not going to write an essay, just book this place you will not regret it.
Jakes at Calabash Bay, Treasure Beach was exactly that -- a treasure, no more, it was a treasure chest of pleasure for all the senses. First off, it is beautiful. The scenery is magnificently gorgeous, so yes, great location for people wanting to see dazzling sunsets and sunrise with the sea and horizon, birds, trees, such as the sea grapes, even small manageable cliffs outside of your room, well my room, which was Jellyfish. By the mini cliff, outside of my room, were two lounge chairs, I could view the scenery on, a hammock too, but I could just sit on the day bed by my window and take in the view. or I could view Calabash Bay's beauty from the patio -- so many options to take in the view. So, that's the large scale beauty of my immediate environs at Jakes the smaller, more intricate beauty of my cottage, was the DETAILS. My bathroom mirror was framed by driftwood, shells, just small beautiful things, that made me happy. And that's the other true beauty of Jakes the DETAILS; the aesthetically pleasing details. My room door for example, had blue glass jeweled details! I understand we have Sally Henzell to thank for that. She's that friendly beautiful soul you see on the grounds, not being boss, but being the Bohemian on the grounds she obviously loves. If you follow the media, Jason Henzell, her son, may be the proprietor, but, it's this very cool, ageless lady, who seems to be behind the whole Jake's experience. There to do a recoding of a much scaled down Calabash Literary Festival, with 8 authors, each on stage separately, observing COVID protocols, I visited another author's cottage and wow. It was in the night, so my view of the approaching waves from her upstairs balcony was nighttime breathtaking and you know what? She boasted, "Oh, It's so much better in the day!" Can you believe that. It felt so magical being on the balcony, of I think It was Octopussy II, or something like that. It was also magical being with like one of my top two favourite poets! And the food! Sinfully delicious -- just like the cottages -- aesthetically detailed. Everything I had was great. I had escoveitch fish, curried shrimp in coconut milk and also the good old Jamaican A class breakfast -- Ackee and Saltfish, with fried dumplings -- delightful through and through. I'm sure Sally Henzell's home-made coconut ice cream, , was divine, but I just couldn't have ice cream, without my 13-year-old daughter. So yes, I've kicked myself since, but it was a sacrifice you know -- enjoying all this Jakes awesomeness without her, something had to give. Speaking of Jake's awesomeness, you'd certainly appreciate the bits and pieces of Jamaican cultural history you pick up at the Jack Sprat restaurant or in the lobby. from Bob Marley, to iconic Jamaican movies, like the Harder they Come to what seems to be family portraits. I never dipped in the saltwater pool, nor did I actually go in the beach, but I would have , if I stayed longer. It felt like I did though. Jakes was a real treat for my senses and a beautifully rejuvenating break for my soul. I almost forgot how warm the people were, from the reception to the dining areas. I guess that should not be surprising, since sally herself is pretty warm and obviously that naturally friendly charisma rubbed off on her daughter, Justine Henzell, who, along with Kwame Dawes organizes Calabash and hosted us writers to an awesome night and day at beautifully bewitching Jakes. Plus, the mini Calabash was awesome. When its back, it will be no less than Jakes grand!!!!…
My partner and I arrived after hours and was checked in by the security whom was very professional and pleasant. We stayed in a Gordon View Room which had a rustic, unique appearance in which we loved. There was a hammack and seating outside which we loved. We had breakfast with the view of the Caribbean Sea which was lovely. Our server was great. My only wish would be for more breakfast menu items.
We had an amazing stay at Jakes, staying in one of the Octo suites w rooftop. Really nice and secluded accommodations to relax and just forget about the world for a moment. Kudos to the F&B team for providing tasteful meals throughout, call out to Phillippa for her care and attention. We enjoyed a couples massage as well. All in all, this will be the first of many visits to Jakes. Thank you to Jason and his team.
