We just returned from a long weekend at Jakes and loved every minute of it! It's a bit of a ride from the airport to get there but you get an amazing drive through the 'real' Jamaica! Check-in was very efficient and the girls were super friendly and helpful especially when we asked to change rooms as soon as we got there. We were originally put in Abalone 1, which was super cute but something about Seapuss 1 right in front of it drew us in even further. Seapuss 1 was PERFECT for our weekend needs! We spent most of our time there with the exception of a boat ride to Little Ochi with Capt. Joseph (also highly recommend) and wandering around the Treasure Beach area exploring and searching for food. The deck was also the best spot to enjoy each evening's sunsets. The outdoor shower has me wanting to remodel my own bathroom at home! Both Jakes Restaurant and Jack Sprat served excellent food with lots to choose from and all of the staff was friendly and welcoming. My only 'complaint' was that the spa was closed down during our time there and I would have loved to experienced it. The hotel itself has recently finished and currently working on refreshing the rooms/cottages so everything looks shiny and great! I can't say enough good things about Jakes, the staff and the stay were everything we needed and we definitely look forward to returning again in the future!

Stayed in Snapper Cottage. Cons: Bedsheets were soiled with orange spots in both bedrooms on arrival. Doubtful if they were changed/laundered properly. Toilet seat was unstable. Awful sewage smell every night. Called staff they didn’t know what to do. Frequent power outages and flickering. Arrived in the evening and staff didn’t offer to take our bags. We had to take them in ourselves. Staff did not inform us of any activities neither did they give us information about the chef they claimed was included in our stay. My sister got some hot water from restaurant to make tea and found DIRT in the water when she took off the cover. No microwave included in kitchen which is ridiculous. Bathrooms have slats right in the shower area where people can see you naked from the outside. My sister realized this when she saw a group of people laughing at her through aforementioned slats. No place to rest your soap etc in the shower. No beach. Pros: Great ocean and sunset view from Snapper. Cottage was spotless (besides bedsheets). WiFi was moderately good. Bottom Line: save your money

Jakes Pelican Villa owes me nothing … This past weekend my family and I had an amazing visit at The Pelican Villa.. It was exactly what we needed to Relax Recharge and Reset from the everyday stressors and all that the past 18 months navigating a Global Pandemic has caused. Let me first say that the house staff is amazing 🤗Jennifer was very attentive and made sure all our needs were met -she catered to the girls and her cooking 😋 let’s just say my daugter asked if she could come home with us!! Adrain is concierge extraordinary -he is very responsive and pays attention to details to ensure that your visit is everything that you want it to be !! The visit exceeded our expectations as this was our first time vacationing in a Villa -let’s just say it will not be the last and Jakes Pelican Villa will now be an annual for myself and my family ….. I can’t say thank you enough Adrian , Jennifer , Terry, Sasha and Trudy for making our stay a memorable one …. Pelican Villa Owes Me Nothing …..,,

My family group of 12 took over the Calabash villa and cottage and had the BEST stay! Our group ranged from ages 4 up. Our 4 kids had a great time and spent most waking hours in the pool or on the beach. The service from Adrian, Damion, Davion and Rowena were excellent. I waited a bit after returning to write my review, since I wanted it to be helpful for people considering the trip. I read a lot of reviews, looked for pictures, etc in anticipation of our trip (which we had to postpone a couple times due to COVID). A few points I wanted to make that I didn't know until I arrived: First, the beach off of Calabash villa is really wonderful. You can't tell from reviews or the website but it's the longest beach we saw in the area (a few hundred yards) and there were rarely any people on it. We found it safe and shallow enough for the younger kids to go in. The water was warm and relaxing. We could have spent all day out there. I really think the beach is undersold. It was great having the cottage next door. It was close enough to put kids to bed there and then return to the villa to hang out in the main seating areas. It felt safe at all times. The area of treasure beach really is quiet and relaxing. There was a nice privacy fence and gate that could be closed to keep more separation. I think staying at the cottage as a small group would be great for access to this nice beach, even if you don't have access to the villa. The outdoor seating areas at the villa were excellent. There's the covered porch off the house, plus an additional area to sit under the covered dining area. That area has a large porch swing and its a great area to see the beach. There is also another sitting area halfway down to the beach which was nice. So much outdoor space, we were rarely inside the villa. Chef Damion and the rest of the staff cooked wonderful meals! I'd recommend having Damian suggest his favorite menus. I selected a few requests but the best food was the stuff he suggested himself (lobster curry, pasta and jerk chicken, breakfast porridge, etc). We only requested breakfast and lunch, but looking back we'd probably ask for lunch next time too! The hotel is only 10 minute walk and Jack Sprat is a couple more minutes, but it was a long walk at the hot point of the day. The food at Jakes hotel was really great but we weren't too excited about Jack Sprat and only ate there one time. There's a very small store between the villa and hotel but it only has the most basic items. Our snack crazy kids had to learn to live off of the delicious fresh fruit at the villa instead (since we didn't request much for snacking). We really miss having all our meals set up for us and eating at the giant table outside. It was warm out but we stayed cool outside and the ACs in the bedrooms worked great! We had great excursions set up by Adrian. Adrian really took care of all our needs (shuttles, covid testing, excursions, etc). He even arranged to have a cake the day we arrived for my daughter's birthday and they made us a bonfire on the beach! We did the Kingffish cookout which was amazing and one of the best parts of our trip! Plus we went to Ys falls which was a lot of fun as well. The rest of the time we were content to relax around Jakes. The staff made us feel at home like family. Can't say enough good things about all of them! I can't speak much to the main hotel at Jakes (since we would just swing by during the day) other than it was a really peaceful place. There were people on workcations and couples and small families enjoying the view and the pool. The bar had great drinks and everyone was super friendly. We did do several spa treatments and we were all very happy with the services there and would highly recommend them. There's not a ton going on outside of the hotel, so it's really the place to relax and take excursions. Getting to and from Jakes was a bumpy ride, but it was truly a view of real Jamaica. It was a normal occurrence to have to wait for herds of livestock to clear the road so we could get through. I can't imagine how people go from the airport to Montego bay resorts and feel like they saw the country. Jakes is a glimpse real Jamaica. After our time at Jakes we went to one of those Montego all inclusives after our stay at Jakes and spent 2-3x more for a fraction of the experience. I wouldn't try to sell Jakes to people who really love their all-inclusive, but if you are up for more adventure and more culture, there's really no comparison. Hopefully, this helps people who are searching for a luxurious and relaxing but off-the-beaten-path experience. I spent months looking for this type of a place across many countries. Jakes really did live up to everything we imagined!

We had a fantastic stay at Jake's - having a cottage to hang out in right by the beach was the best! What a lovely village with great people. It's a bit off the beaten path which made it all the better, but a bit of an adventurous drive. Really enjoyed our time - Adrian and Demian were great!
