Stayed 3 nights in the 3rd class Victorian railway carriage, but it was 1st class all the way! The whole experience was lovely. We had wonderful breakfasts served in the garden each morning which set us up for the day. The hosts were friendly and attentive without being intrusive. Highly recommend if you fancy staying somewhere abit quirky!

Had a wonderful five night stay in the Railway Carriage in September. Louise and Richard could not have been nicer or more welcoming. The flexibility and standard of the breakfasts was superb, and although the weather wasn't quite good enough for us to eat in the garden, Richard very kindly delivered it to the railway carriage for us each morning! Would definitely recommend this for a relaxing, unique stay in a beautiful Yorkshire town.

What a lovely little hideaway! Cosy, spotlessly clean and equipped with all you need for a relaxing stay, with wonderful hosts. Breakfast was a real treat, served from the main house to the carriage. A place I will definitely stay at again, and will recommend to others.

Booked here with my husband and teenagers to help us through a family bereavement. Louise and Richard were charming, supportive, understanding and very professional. The railway carriage is the most adorable quirky venue, with incredible private courtyard garden. Breakfast was served either in the magnificent kitchen, or in the inspirational garden. We did both and loved every mouthful! If you love history being celebrated in design and restoration, then this beautiful place is really special. Walkers can fill their boots without using a car, and the myriad of eateries and drinkeries, makes for a wonderfully relaxing break. I have travelled the world many times over and this place is now embedded as a wonderful memory of Yorkshire. You will not be disappointed by choosing personal and special.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the railway carriage. Louise & Richard are very welcoming. Our choice of breakfast was delivered to the carriage on time every morning. Louise will make whatever you want & kept trying to get us to eat more! When I requested cornflakes & fruit rather than a cooked breakfast she made me a beautiful fruit salad. The carriage is quirky & has everything you need. When the bed is down space is quite tight so you do have to be tidy. We used the small bunk room as a dressing room & that worked out fine. Helmsley is a good base and has lots of independent shops & restaurants. If you want to stay somewhere a bit different with personal service from the owners we would recommend the railway carriage.
