The room are very clean and comfortable, so we had an excellent night sleep! The pub downstairs is very friendly and cozy. The staff is very polite, friendly and helpful - which made us very feel very welcome in Helmsley. The only downside is the breakfast buffet - we were not offered real plates, but saucers to eat! The buffet was neither replaced, nor offered something salty - like some cheese, ham or maybe boiled eggs. I'd totally recommend the hotel for its staff, rooms and pub, but not for its breakfast buffet.

We had booked to stay two nights as we had an event in the local area. This is a really surprisingly place to stay, from the front it looks like a small pub but it's like the tardis inside! There is a small bar area and then a larger dining area at the front with a larger event space at the rear (which was used for an art and craft festival on the Saturday). There is a large outdoor patio area at the rear. The building is old but they've kept up with the fairly contemporary décor and communal spaces are clean and tidy. We had a small double room overlooking a roof but as it was a very hot weekend it was a bit stifling - we couldn't open the window with the blind up as there were wasps hovering outside. There was a small fan provided but didn't really help unfortunately. The room was well decorated but was very small with no room to move at all really - there was a small amount of storage space. The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was an average size but there was zero space to put toiletries - there was a high shelf which was no good so we had to perch our things on the side of the bath - this was my main bugbear. The shower pressure was adequate but not very powerful. The room was reasonably clean although dusting was needed in some areas and there were marks on the walls/around the door which made it look a little unloved. Facilities include satellite TV, bottled water, iron/ironing board, tea tray and desk (not needed, really could've done without this to free up space) We heard noise from the corridor but not from neighbouring rooms - it didn't disturb us. We had booked in for dinner on the Friday night and the menu choice was good and food excellent - the staff were very helpful. Same for breakfast, decent choice, well made and again good service. Parking will be a struggle - they do have parking spaces but it's first come first served and space is limited - you need to pass the Feathers on your right, go right at the small roundabout and then an immediate right down an alley. There are some spaces by the side of the patio area and then a small overflow to the left of this. The hotel was extremely well located in the centre of Helmsley with easy access to all the shops and pubs. Although there were some issues, a few of these were out of the hotel's control and overall we had a good weekend here - we will return here in the future and just make sure we got a larger room!
