Had the most relaxing stay doing the dinner, bed breakfast deal with a shoulder and back massage to start the afternoon off. Staff very attentive and efficient. We had probably one of the best evening meals we have ever had, absolutely faultless. Breakfast was also very very good. We were given a little goodie bag of bottled water and cookies to set us off on our way. It’s not cheap but we felt it was money well spent and was most certainly a treat. On checking out the receptionist asked us if it was a special occasion explained about our anniversary and she said if we had told them on booking they would have done something special for us. I actually did tell them when I booked so guess we will never know what that something special might have been. But had a most enjoyable stay.…
We have just returned from a most and relaxing weekend at this lovely Country House Hotel. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel most welcome and special by ALL the staff, who without exception, were excellent. We enjoyed dinner at their sister "Acorn Inn" in the village on the first night and then in the hotel on our second night. Food and service on both occasions was spot on. We also booked a "Falcon Experience" on one afternoon in the hotel gardens which was most informative, and a great thrill to have these magnificent birds flying between us. All so well handled by Paul and Carole. The hotel lounges and our bedroom were superb and we very much look forward to our next visit. Thankyou Summer Lodge.
We had the most relaxing couple of days in the glorious surroundings of Summer Lodge. The staff are friendly and efficient, somehow managing to be unobtrusive when they see you want privacy yet immediately attentive when necessary. The food was exceptional in its quality and presentation, and the sommelier gave us great advice on selecting appropriate wines. Five-star luxury but not in a glitzy way: Imagine a private country house where your every creature comfort is provided and you have Summer Lodge. Hugely impressive, we are already looking forward to coming again. Within easy reach of London, we are hoping this might be sooner rather than later.
We lead busy lives and were looking for quality accommodation which welcomed dogs, as a base to visit delightful Dorset, avoiding the August crowds, if at all possible. Thus we opted for Summer Lodge, despite the hefty price tag. We know the Red Carnation brand well, having previously stayed at 5 other hotels within their portfolio, including The Acorn Inn in Evershot. Ambience The hotel grounds are thoughtfully landscaped, but not overly manicured. They are extensive and contain many places to sit and relax in lovely surroundings. There is also a rose garden, a kitchen garden and a small pond containing koi carp. It is an excellent outdoor space for guests travelling with a dog. Umbrellas and wellies are provided for guests’ use, as required. Once you drive through the arch and up the drive, you can sense the calm and relaxing ambience. Once inside the building, the sense of a calm, relaxing atmosphere pervades. The lounge and restaurant are tasteful and elegant. Service (including front desk) This is a strong point, with 24 hour service. All staff are personable and helpful, acknowledging all guests at every contact point and finding time for conversation. Restaurant All Red Carnation hotels are dog friendly. Due to travelling with our dog on this occasion, we ate breakfast and dinner in the bar, where a ‘special’ table was laid out for us. The service by all staff members was excellent during our three dinners. We were never hurried and felt that we were valued guests. We had great conversations with staff (as well as some of the other guests). Similarly at breakfast. The quality of food at dinner was mostly very good, with desserts being the highlight. At breakfast, the hotel has an extensive menu of prepared dishes, and the ones we ordered were of very good quality. The wine list is extensive and wide-ranging, with plenty of quality wines by the glass. Bottles start at £38. The bar is a whisky drinker’s dream come true, with a choice of over 200. Bedroom We had a superior king room, which was very much in keeping with the Red Carnation standard of comfort that we have come to expect: high quality soft furnishings and bed linen; St James shower and taps; Floris toiletries, well-appointed lighting etc. There was ample cupboard space and a large bathroom. Spa The leisure/wellness area was a highlight of our stay. We enjoyed the ambience and their systems were straightforward and guest-orientated. A truly relaxing experience. To sum up, Summer lodge is at the top-end when it comes to price, with rates starting at £400 per night for a room and breakfast and £85 for a 3 course meal in the restaurant which holds 3 AA rosettes. It is also at the top-end in terms of quality and service. Throughout our 4 night stay, we only encountered a couple of minor negatives. Once again, a Red Carnation hotel has provided the quality of stay that we were looking for. Summer Lodge is definitely far from the madding crowd and we will definitely return, despite the long drive to reach Evershot, which is like stepping back in time. In this age of minimalism, it is comforting to be surrounded by quality and to know that some things never change and that there is no compromise at this Red Carnation Hotel.…
Just had the most pleasant lunch one could ever wish for. The chefs prepare and present food to the highest standard . The staff were the best you could ever meet, extremely friendly, and helpful. Although it may seem a long way to go and dine, it would be a shame if you do not make the journey, the standard and quality is the best in the area. A must for food lovers. Thank you to everyone at Summer Lodge.
We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to Summer Lodge and had a wonderful tw day stay. The hotel absolutely lived up to expectations and confirmed the glowing reviews which we had checked out prior to booking. The room was very spacious and comfortable with such a good bathroom layout. The staff deserve their reputation, they were so friendly and charming and helpful. The food was first class, compliments to the chefs. The huge indoor swimming pool and spa added to our enjoyment. In other words, nothing to fault ! And we look forward to our next visit.
Once again we visited Summer Lodge as a family for a two night stay. The experience was, once again, exceptional. All the rooms were delightful and the meals we ate both at the Acorn Inn and in Summer Lodge itself outstanding in terms of quality and service. It is the personal service that makes this hotel stand out. We arrived to find a personal message from Jack and Alex welcoming us back as a family. As always the staff were outstanding - there are not many hotels where you are greeted by your name by every member of staff you meet during your stay. We cannot praise the staff more highly but to say they are all a credit to the Red Carnation brand and a credit to themselves. If you want first class service, exceptional food and be able to totally relax then Summer Lodge is the hotel to visit. I have no doubt we will return but until then our thanks for another incredible stay.…
We had a fabulous spa day yesterday….couldn’t fault a thing. The service and quality of the staff, the massage and the use of the spa facilities were superb. A delicious lunch was served in the hotel and we were looked after wonderfully. We’ll be back! Thank you.
We had a lovely stay over the weekend, with family. The Staff couldn't have been more obliging and helpful, and the food was excellent. The grounds are lovely and the area is quiet and quaint. The only negative is that the hotel really needs refurbishing, the rooms are tired and could do with an update. However, despite that we had a lovely relaxing time.
I love this hotel. It is like coming home. Very comfortable but not pretentious, excellent food and staff that have been there for years and who always remember you. One stand out on this trip was Dermo. He was there to help with e everything and couldn’t have been nicer. He will go a long way in his career. Proactive, engaging and with an eye for detail. We are back again end of July and looking forward to it.
