We stayed here before out trip to Skellig Michael. The service was top notch, they were very organized and friendly. We only encountered one issue.... The room was hot. Way too hot. Barely slept, and there's no way you could stay in there past 10 am. Obviously it was hot outside and we were lucky to have nice weather but... More

We stayed on a recommendation from another B&B owner in Kenmare. Quiet, clean, comfortable and convenient. We only stayed one night as we had no reservations and they only had the one night available.

We had a triple room at the back of the hotel which was quiet and comfortable, ask for no 16 or 17 if you want to avoid noise from the busy bar. The Moorings provided the best breakfast on our trip around Ireland, grilled bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon was excellent. Lunch and dinner in the Bridge bar... More

Fabulous day, we spent the day after a wedding. It was brilliant. Hog roasting in the car park and live music. Dancing and lots of fun. The staff were brilliant we had a ball. We even went out on a boat trip. And to top it all the sun was shining. Basic bed and breakfast and good value for money.... More

A cosy guesthouse/small hotel perfectly situated on the harbour in Portmagee, the ideal spot for catching a tour of the magnificent Skellig Islands of Star Wars fame. The rooms are spacious and well-equipped and the staff are friendly and have great local knowledge. The bar and restaurant downstairs offer superb food and is reasonably priced. We dined in the bar... More

The Moorings is right on the harbour and has a restaurant/bar attached. The staff were just gorgeous. The breakfast was really good and you could order your own hot meal. It has lovely places to walk around the town and over the nearby bridge. Great comfy bed. Martina who works in the bar/restaurant was especially lovely and had actually worked... More

I stayed at the Moorings for a full week recently. The rooms are generous and comfortable. The Breakfast was included for me in this week and it was very good. A small but nice buffet with juices, fruits and cereals. Every morning fresh warm scones and croissants. Furthermore, there was a Card with delicious cold and warm extras for breakfast... More

This is the perfect place to begin your journey to Skellig Michael...and if you are smart, end it also. Our room was huge with a sauna. It was with heavy heart we left after the climb to the top and the boat trip back to Portmagee. I would recommend the Moorings to any and all.

I can't speak any more highly for the service at The Moorings! After booking, I was able to work with them (through book.com) to reserve spots on a boat out to Skellig Michael. This was a huge relief because I really wanted to go there and I had not heard back from emails to other businesses. A couple days before... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestled into the picturesque seafront of Portmagee, the Moorings Guesthouse overlooks the village's busy working harbour. Just a 30 second walk from the pier, where boats leave for the Skelligs every morning, and right at the heart of village life, there's simply nowhere more convenient to base yourself when you stay in Portmagee. Offering 16 rooms in total, the owners have created a calm and surprisingly luxurious ambience through the use of traditional yet contemporary furnishings with crisp, clean lines of soft ivory against vibrant reds. The Moorings strive to deliver personal, attentive service while matching the very best standards in efficiency and attention to detail that you've encountered elsewhere. Room facilities include direct-dial telephone, satellite TV, tea- and coffee-making facilities, iron and ironing board, ensuite marble bathroom with power shower, bath, hairdryer and Gilchrest & Soames toiletries. Complimentary Wi-Fi Internet access is available throughout the guesthouse and there is free car parking for guests. There's nothing more endearing than knowing that some of the Hollywood's biggest movie stars like Mark Hamill and Director J.J Abrams have visited the sleepy village of Portmagee, and even sat in the Bridge Bar local pub where Mark Hamill poured a pint of Guinness behind the bar. The Moorings was home to the pre-production team of the Star Wars VII movie and you can visit the room where all the magic took place and listen to the stories told by the staff. The Moorings is open all year round. Great food served all day with traditional music at weekends. Trips to Skellig Michael can be arranged and packages are available from April to September. Cois Cuain gift shop is open from March to January. The Moorings is located in a fishing village with a working harbour, post office, general store, coffee shop, bar, restaurant overlooking Valentia Island. The Moorings received a platinum award for green hospitality in 2013. They have introduced a 'Green' package which offers two nights B&B in The Moorings Guesthouse, a guide to a wildlife shore search and a special '30 mile' menu where all main ingredients are sourced within a 30 mile radius. ... more   less
