We really enjoyed our overnight stay in port McGee the boats were cancelled to Skellig Michael the morning we arrived because of weather conditions but I have to say the staff in the moorings when out of there way to help us with tea/ coffee what to do for the day and an early check in because we got soaked... Great find. Brilliant location in the heart of the village ( this place is the heart of the village). Rooms are fine, offers everything you need, however the breakfast/lunch/dinner are fab ( recommend the seafood chowder). The bar has a real buzz, and there's a lovely gift shop next door. Great place to stay to explore Kerry and to boat... More

We visit Portmagee every summer for a number of years for a week, , we usually have dinner in the bar section in the Moorings , it's always excellent, regardless of what you order , as u can't make a reservations for the pub for food you take pot luck with waiting times, some nights are busier as you might... This is a fantastic place to stay with great staff. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised by how big the room was , as well as how fresh and clean everything was - we even had a jacuzzi bath. All food we had for breakfast and dinner was delicious and the waiting staff were very attentive and friendly. When... More

The Moorings is synomonous with Portmagee, a gorgeous little village in South Kerry and it had some famous former guests like President Mary McAleese. The room at €140 was pricey, and the decor was a bit dated. It is really the only place in the village and in fairness food is lovely and customer service was excellent. The room was actually... We had a lovely stay at The Moorings. The location is perfect, with beautiful views across the bay. The room was clean and comfortable, and the staff were pleasant and helpful. We were, however, very disturbed to learn that the front door is locked all night, and requires use of a key to get out. We were informed of this... More

I wasn't sure what to expect from a small guesthouse such as this. However, when we arrived, it was beautiful. It is much bigger than it looks and was a perfect place to spend a couple of days in Ireland. Everything was perfect - our accommodations, our meals and the boat trip arranged by the Moorings out to Skellig Michael.... More

We stayed in a family room at the Moorings Inn for two nights; the setting was spectacular, the town of Portmagee is out of a storybook. Our room was comfortable, clean and spacious with a double bed and a twin bed, and a beautiful view out the picture window. The reception was friendly but we had consistently strange experiences with... More

My family stayed in two great rooms at the Moorings for two nights. The village itself is a a great base to explore the area from. The boats to the Skellig Islands are across the street and walking distance to the Skellig Experience center. We enjoyed exploring the Skellig ring drive which has some great walks and wonderful views. The... More

It is a nice spot, great location, but I ended up paying 25% more for booking this room on Bookings.com instead of directly with The Moorings. The room itself was ok, average. The price was high. The jacuzzi didn't work. The wifi was slow and not always working. My soap dispenser in the shower was defective and when I brought... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestled into the picturesque seafront of Portmagee, the Moorings Guesthouse overlooks the village's busy working harbour. Just a 30 second walk from the pier, where boats leave for the Skelligs every morning, and right at the heart of village life, there's simply nowhere more convenient to base yourself when you stay in Portmagee. Offering 16 rooms in total, the owners have created a calm and surprisingly luxurious ambience through the use of traditional yet contemporary furnishings with crisp, clean lines of soft ivory against vibrant reds. The Moorings strive to deliver personal, attentive service while matching the very best standards in efficiency and attention to detail that you've encountered elsewhere. Room facilities include direct-dial telephone, satellite TV, tea- and coffee-making facilities, iron and ironing board, ensuite marble bathroom with power shower, bath, hairdryer and Gilchrest & Soames toiletries. Complimentary Wi-Fi Internet access is available throughout the guesthouse and there is free car parking for guests. There's nothing more endearing than knowing that some of the Hollywood's biggest movie stars like Mark Hamill and Director J.J Abrams have visited the sleepy village of Portmagee, and even sat in the Bridge Bar local pub where Mark Hamill poured a pint of Guinness behind the bar. The Moorings was home to the pre-production team of the Star Wars VII movie and you can visit the room where all the magic took place and listen to the stories told by the staff. The Moorings is open all year round. Great food served all day with traditional music at weekends. Trips to Skellig Michael can be arranged and packages are available from April to September. Cois Cuain gift shop is open from March to January. The Moorings is located in a fishing village with a working harbour, post office, general store, coffee shop, bar, restaurant overlooking Valentia Island. The Moorings received a platinum award for green hospitality in 2013. They have introduced a 'Green' package which offers two nights B&B in The Moorings Guesthouse, a guide to a wildlife shore search and a special '30 mile' menu where all main ingredients are sourced within a 30 mile radius. ... more   less
