The approach from the airport can be a little unsettling because of the remote location of the hotel. Don't expect to walk anywhere. If you don't plan on hiring a car, or quad bike, then expect to pay a significant amount in taxi fares. Having said that everything else is excellent. Starting with the very warm and personal greeting at reception to the fabulous suite we had booked with a pool. Once you get used to the geography and realise it is a small island and most places of interest are 10 to 20 minutes away in a taxi, you realise that you are staying in a beautiful oasis of calm compared to the major resorts. Lola on reception was a great help and arranged a couple of restaurant bookings and a fabulous island tour. The staff in the bar/restaurant are terrific and added to our enjoyment of the holiday.

We cannot praise the hotel enough from the late night check-in, attention to details and incredible staff. We arrived late and they were waiting for us in the office after a missed connection and rebooked late flight. We were pleasantly greeted and escorted to a beautiful room with rose petals on the floor and carefully designed I love you and a bottle of sparkling wine. We loved every minute of the first night and enjoyed the beautiful Jacuzzi on the balcony after a long day of missed flights and traveling. The breakfast was fantastic, pool side service for drinks and food was also incredible. We had the pool to ourselves most of the time and the entire hotel was very quiet and enjoyable for some down time. They also arranged an ATV delivery to the hotel which we used to commute the island for 3 days and it was incredible. Definitely recommend this for transportation. The room was always immaculately clean and the hotel was taken great care of with so much attention to detail.

Our agent recommended this hotel and it was stunning. Maria gave us a warm welcome, Prosecco and a tour of the hotel. We had the two bedroom villa with a whirlpool and in my opinion the sunrise from our balcony was far more impressive than the sunset from the caldera, unfortunately, I was the only one awake at 6am to enjoy it. The reason this hotel didn’t quite work for us was the location. The hotel has no shuttle bus service so you are relying on taxis to take you everywhere and when there are 4 of you, it can get very expensive! They charge a flat fee for 2 people and then an extra €5pp - so a night out in Oia cost us €80 return and to Fira €60 return, we didn’t even make it to Megalochori or Akrotiri. You are also waiting for others who are sharing the same taxi. One of the taxi drivers got really angry with us and was shouting, I think because the pick up point was not clear, I’m still not sure. Imerovigli is the nearest town to the hotel, where you will find a mini marts, bars/ restaurants and the most incredible views! We did a half day Santorini highlights tour which was great, Pyrgos and a visit to the winery were firm favourites and a sunset cruise which was the highlight of our entire trip. We had a few lunch/dinner meals at the hotel and they were all great, prepared well and delicious. The pool area is beautiful and because we had a late flight home we were able to relax by the pool and for the 6 hours we had to wait we were very comfortable. Overall, we really enjoyed our time at Amber light Villas but it would have been even better if we didn’t have to fork out large sums of money on top of our flights and accommodation everyday to visit places. The hotel should really consider a free shuttle bus service to at least Fira, where you can access buses and tours to see the rest of the island.

Beautiful hotel and our room was spacious, clean and well equipped, a large balcony with a hot tub and very comfy sunbeds. All the staff were professional and friendly and Lola was so helpful and booked some lovely restaurants for us.

We stayed here for 1 week. Our room was absolutely incredible. Huge and quiet! Super clean and modern and had the best view of the sunrise. The heated whirlpool was the cherry on top. Everyone was so friendly, we miss them all already. Even the cats !!! Especially Bruce. The hotel is away from the busy tourist hot spots and gives you a chance to completely disconnect. 10 Min from the nearest town and great facilities. The staff go out of their way to make you feel comfortable, the taxi services used by the hotel is also very friendly and always on time, made our stay so much more relaxing. We hope to see you again soon !

We stayed here in May for a week to celebrate my 40th birthday. The hotel itself is lovely and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. The room was very spacious and spotlessly clean. Our room had a balcony on with a hot tub which was great. All rooms overlook the pool and have a sea view and some have hot tubs and a small pool on their balconies. There was a mini bar fridge in the room and a coffee machine although only one pod for the coffee machine was free. Mini Bar prices were on the expensive side but pretty standard for a hotel. We just ended up buying drinks etc from a shop in the town and bringing them back to keep in the fridge. The hotel is in a very remote location but we actually saw that as a bonus. We loved coming back to the quiet of the hotel after spending the day in the busy towns of Oia and Fira which were packed with tourists, even in May! When we stayed the restaurant was closed which was a shame but it did mean we got out and had food at a number of local restaurants which was great. The nearest town is Imerovigli which is about 10/15 minutes away by car. We hired a car and used a local company recommended by the hotel- Santo Donkey. They dropped off the car at the hotel for us and picked it up before we left. 40 euros a day for a standard small car and all very easy to organise. Having a car came in very useful. You can easily get a taxi to Imerovigli and the hotel can arrange it but at 15 euros each way it soon adds up. Taxis to Oia & Fira were around 30 euros each way I think. You can in theory walk to Imerovigli from the hotel but it is up a very steep hill and then along a fairly busy main road. I did it a few times (mainly just for exercise to burn off some of the food!) and it took around 45 minutes each way. I would definitely recommend hiring a car though as it gives you chance to get around the island easily. Just be careful on the roads - even the ‘main’ roads are littered with pot holes and uneven surfaces and there are plenty of hairy sharp corners and steep climbs! Breakfast at the hotel was good with a buffet of hot and cold food each morning. Decent variety and a coffee machine for espresso, cappuccino etc. Lovely setting as well out on the bar terrace over looking the sea. As I said above the restaurant was closed when we were there. The hotel gave us details of a take away place that would deliver. Ilios bakery. We tried that a couple of times. It wasn’t bad (food wasn’t that warm first time but much better second time round) and the portions were huge. Prices are quite good value for what you get. There are plenty of nice places to eat in Imerovigli though. Anogi is well worth a visit in particular. Note- the hotel is not on the caldera side of the island so you don’t get the sunset from the hotel. However, the sea views are still stunning and you get to the sun rise each morning, if you are up early enough!

Room Tip: Hire a car or ATV to get around the island. Try Anogi for dinner in Imerovigli

There’s a lot that’s good about Amber Lights. Our room was beautiful. It was bright, spacious — cavernous, even — with a sitting area and a cool, cosy bathroom with a large shower practically hewn from the rocks. Our room had a terrace with a small pool and loungers, so we spent nearly all our time there relaxing and looking out across spectacular views of the Aegean and Anafi and watching the planes come and go from the airport. While you get the caldera views in Imerovigili and Fira, you absolutely do not get the same level of privacy that Amber Lights offers. The staff, particularly the front-of-house staff, were attentive, very friendly, and eager to help, and through them we organised an excellent tour of the island with bona fide native Santorinians. If you’re visiting Santorini for complete and utter tranquility, Amber Lights is perfect. It is extremely quiet, and you’re unlikely to see or hear anyone during the day except at breakfast and dinner. Many times it felt less like a hotel and more like a health retreat. But it is quiet largely because it is so isolated, at least in Santorinian terms. If you’re staying at Amber Lights, rent a vehicle. While it’s theoretically possible to walk to nearby Imerovigili, the road there is uphill and dangerous, and the alternative walking route Google Maps suggests is currently impassable due to construction. While the hotel will happily arrange taxi transportation to Imerovigili, it costs a flat €15 to go the 3km, and transfers to Oia and Perissa, for example, are much more expensive (€40 each way). Whatever shuttle bus used to operate from the hotel is not in service, which is a real shame and effectively strands non-drivers who are on a tighter budget or unwilling to brave the local roads (and I don’t blame you). Breakfast was decent and certainly healthier and less stodgy than some other Santorini hotels, but dinner from the restaurant (which was closed until our third day) was fairly average and mostly overpriced. To arrange our mealtime and desired courses, we needed to call reception in advance. It wasn’t possible simply to show up at 7 or 8pm and just order at the table, which was odd. There was also no separate lunch menu. While Amber Lights does partner with an Imerovigili-based takeaway restaurant, getting sandwiches in a plastic bag from a delivery driver doesn’t make for a luxury hotel experience, especially when you’re paying almost one and a half thousand euros for the privilege. What the hotel really could do with is a small shop or kiosk — something that sells bottles of water, beer, and snacks. While our room came with a very well-stocked mini-fridge, the markup was by any standard heinous (e.g, €2 per coffee capsule, €4.50 for a bar of chocolate), and we bought many of the same things for a fraction of the price in Imerovigili and, ironically, from Amber Lights’ takeaway partner. We also struggled with internet speeds for the duration of our stay, and on one evening the entire hotel had a 12-hour outage. Sluggish WiFi isn’t really a problem if you’re out exploring — and I hate to sound like a net-addicted Millennial — but if you’re planning on spending most of your time by the pool listening to podcasts or watching something, it limits the experience. There’s a lot to recommend at Amber Lights — the peace and quiet, the views, the private terraces with pools and hot tubs. However, the transportation issues, the odd lunch and dinner setup, and a few other noticeable issues mean that it doesn’t quite fit its luxury billing, especially given the price.

this hotel comes with one warning: after enjoying the balconies, private hot tubs, rainfall showers, soft beds, music system, pool, view, you will be spoiled for staying anywhere else in this country. Maria and Lola were the friendliest, most helpful people during our trip. I should send my travel agent flowers for recommending this property.

A belated 40th birthday holiday due to the pandemic. It was worth the wait. I was aware when we booked that it wasn't within walking distance to shops/bars/restaurants but there was a shuttle bus- sadly this was not in operation. The taxi's are pricey unfortunately. Immerovigli which is only 3km is 15 euro, 20 euro for Fira and 30 to Oia. We just had to pay up and not let it ruin our time. We loved our room, very spacious and we had our own pool on the balcony. For me and my husband we loved the privacy and the quietness in the day but headed outr every evening for dinner and culture. The breakfast is ok, certainly not luxury just basic but sets you up. It was a shame lunch wasn't being served as some days we had to get 2 taxi's a day to go for lunch and dinner. We did get a take away one of the days and the food was tasty and hot, we found a kebab shop in Fira that delivered. We personally had a fabulous time here but its not cheap. Lola at reception is very helpful and approachable. We did a 'beach day' which I would highly recommend and paid 30 euro for a sunbed with a towel and got served food and drink all day. The sunbed cost is 30 euro or free when you spend over that amount. Don't go to a crazy pricey beach club they want 250 euro just to sit on a bed with music. We also booked in a full body massage and it was the best massage I 've ever had, if you like massages book it! Over all Amber Light was great, its not central but when you book you should know that, save your pennies for the taix's and just enjoy it.
