We stayed here in August 2011 via a special offer that had been advertised in Bulgaria and wished to book for 4 nights. The automated booking system would only accept bookings of 3 or 5 nights, upon telephoning the hotel they assured us that we could stay for 4 nights and pay for the extra night at the hotel. Upon arrival, our booking had only been recorded for 3 nights and despite a request for a sea-view upper level room, we had been allocated a ground floor room with no view. As the hotel was fully booked we were told we couldn't be moved. The room itself was dirty and hadn't been properly cleaned after the previous stay. Contacting Reception about this elicited only a shrug and a "sorry" so we spent the first hour of our stay cleaning the room.

The room itself is ok with a comfortable bed, albeit the use of plastic mattress protectors is not a pleasant feature and we had to remove them to stop us from sweating at night. Walls are pretty thin and the plumbing is audible from upper rooms. The TV reception is not good and has only a few channels. There is a kicthenette in the room with a coffee machine, but the only implements we found were some knives and forks and three dirty glasses, so we couldn't even brew a coffee in the morning.

The hotel has free wifi, but despite the room being relatively close to the lobby, wifi reception proved very patchy in the room. The hotel is opposite Kavatsi beach, some way out of Sozopol so it is a quiet area. This could be a good thing, but there is no apparent means of transport into Sozopol so we ended up driving and paying for parking in the old town, itself not that cheap. The hotel car park is very small for the size of property and on arriving back on evening, we had to park on the road outside the hotel as there were no available spaces in the car park.

Despite all this we wanted to extend our stay from 3 to 5 nights and we were told that they would offer the same price as the deal, but breakfast was not included. We thought this a mean spirited gesture, particularly after the difficulties we had experienced, and when we informed them that this would result in us checking out the following day, we received another shrug.

Overall, it isn't a bad place, the building itself is quite new and stylish and the setting is attractive, but I have stayed in much better hotels for the money and the service needs a lot of work. The prices in the bar and restaurant are out of this world for Bulgaria, it is no surprise it was empty each night we were there.

South Pearl has the perfect location - it's literally a 2-minute walk from one of the best Black Sea beaches - Smokinya. Every single room and apartment in the hotel has a great sea view. However, these are pretty much all the positive things I can say about this place.

Unfortunately, the great views and superb location can't make for the bad construction and inadequate hotel management. Here's why:

- When we checked in, the apartment was dirty - there was sand everywhere. We spoke both to the front desk and the housekeepers, asking them to mop the floor more carefully, but our request was ignored.

- There were never enough towels left in the apartment.

- There were stains on the sheets.

- Even though South Pearl had opened just couple of years ago, it looked pretty run down - squeaking doors, windows that wouldn't open, stained furniture and signs of leaks and mold on the walls.

And we would have ignored all mentioned above if it wasn't for the thunderstorm and rain showers one night that flooded the apartment! And when I say "flooded", I mean 10cm of water in the bedroom. That night the front desk staff didn't offer any solution or help - they just explained that there were no other available apartments or studios at that time, and just offered us a bucket and towels! The next day we were finally moved to another apartment, but we never got any kind of compensation or even an apology for the horrific experience.

Needles to say, we won't be back!

We were in the hotel for 5 nights. The first impression was very good, but then started unpleasant experiences at the hotel.
First unpleasant surprise. The hotel is not directly on the beach and beach chairs are available for 30 leva per day. Deck chairs at the pool are for free. The pool is well maintained.
2nd surprise - towels are changed only on the third day. On the fourth we just put towels for exchange and they took them but did not put new ones. After we asked they gave us with spots.
Shampoo the put only the first day. 2 small bottles of, shampoo two small soups and 2 bath gel for all five days. I guess if you stay longer they will not give new ones.
The kitchen is not fully equipped - no bowls, no sponge, washing-up liquid and cleaning cloth. We did not cook, but this is a kid that I noticed was missing. Garbage bins are small and not cleaned any day of our stay. One afternoon, other disappointed guest put their garbage in bags next to the elevator to be taken from the cleaning staff, but it stay there until the next afternoon.
When other guests cook it really smells in the other rooms and corridors of the hotel.
One of the days our shower broke and asked to fix it. The clerk said that there is no one that can fix it and she cannot get in contact with the manager. A maid came and patched up the situation so we can take a shower after the beach. The next day they fixed it, but the next day even burst worse.
Breakfast is simple. Not a big choice. Eggs with something else if you like coffee, soda and water they will give you only if you request even it is included in the price
Ordering our dinner in the hotel was also a little misunderstanding. My husband ordered fish soup and after 5 minutes our son also ordered fish soup to another waiter who said there is no soup . Turns out they did have soup. Otherwise we were happy with food that we ordered.
I will not recommend this hotel to my friends.

We loved this hotel. If you are looking for a quite beach, pool and hotel then this is for you. Although located just outside of Sozopol there is a small tourists train which runs every 30 minutes to Sozopol town center and back for a small charge. This is located just 200m down the road. The hotel itself is one of the best I have stayed in in Bulgaria, with large bed, nice well equipped kitchen and a balcony. We slept very well here and had a lovely relaxing time. Staff are very friendly, but I would not recommend the restaurant as this was massively over priced for the area and for what it was. We are looking forward to going back.

We spent a weekend in this hotel and were pleased with the atmosphere and quietness. Location is nice for those who would happily avoid the typical tourists’ noise. However, w/o a car you would be stuck there. No transportation other than taxi if you’d like to go to the town.
The room we had was on the ground floor and was OK in terms of equipment and functionality. Mosquitoes are a big issue since there was no net on the window. Another bothering thing is the extreme humidity in the room, due to which a mould smell was coming from the bed mattress. Towels were not changed daily, which I think is a standard for a 3 star hotel. The selection of tv channels was fairly poor. Otherwise, the personnel were friendly and responsive.

We spent just the weekend in the hotel, however I would love to stay for longer time - very good service, food was fresh and tasty, quite place for rest, the studio was equipped with all kitchen staff needed, the beach and the location are excellent
The humidity in the north studio apartments is very high, the beds and the wardrobe smell of mould.

Terrible place, booked and confirmed my reservation over 5 phone calls during 2 weeks just to find out that there is no room for us upon arriving at the hotel. There was a baby cot reserved on my name however! Staff is just terrible, unpolite and unprofessional.

Ok I have to say the first look was great. But when we finally got into our rooms he forst thing we noticed where the spiderwebs. The Bathroom appeared clean but sand was everywhere in the shower. The Bedsheets showed old blood on several Places. The Balkony was a little dirty lake and not useable. There was no remote control available. The Rooms are big and all have a lovely view to the sea, but thats all. Breakfasts were fantastic but the Rest of the food.... let's say you can't be shure what you ordered until it is in front of you., My Friend and I ordered the same dish and recieved 2 different things?!?!
The Employees all where absolutely lovely and did theyr best to make our stay in the hotel a nice one. But the Organistation is awfull.

If there is something one can be entirely positive about for this hotel, it is the location. Near one of the finest beaches on the Southern Bulgarian seaside, one can enjoy a quiet and pleasant vacation.
The breakfast is good, though nothing special.
The pool is fine.
The WiFi is not accessible in all areas, so one may have to go to the bar to use the Internet.
The parking lot cannot accomodate all cars during the busy periods.

Completely unsatisfied, especially for the payed price!
Firstly, we were with baby and he messed up the bed sheets the first night (understand that as the diaper leaked!!!) - they did not changed the sheets because "it is against the policy to change the sheets after one night".. Excuse me?!? We're talking poop situation here + baby to sleep on it! They did took some of our towels which they did not replace.
The staff at the reception needs more training and has to train on politeness towards the customers.
There was problem with the wall in the room - right beside the bed (can be seen on the pictures; 1/3 of the balcony was occupied by the dangerous air condition..
As you will see on the pictures, there were cables going out of the bushes at the restaurant area; a shaft was open by the pool during our whole stay and was not secured!
Otherwise, the restaurant staff was polite, the food was nice - although the displayed breakfast was insufficient. There was a line for the ONE toaster (for only two pieces of bread) & there were always people waiting for eggs/bacon as the displaying box was too small and they had to refill it often. The food which could be purchased during the rest of the day was nicely made and tasty.
When not taking into account the open shaft, the pool area was very nice, the water is kept very clean.
We had to leave earlier and they didn't charge us extra (for the made reservation of 9 nights, we stayed 2), however, they were no where near interested in the reason for leaving - which I find very unprofessional.
