The food is ok (nothing special) but overpriced. You can find in sodas nearby a casado (drink included) for 2700 colones. We asked for information and they had no idea. Also, we stayed in the hotel next door, and it has the music so loud that it was impossible to sleep.
I've just come there to get some breakfast, which was very good! Even though I didn't sleep there they offered me cold water and took care of my luggage while I went to the beach. Everyone was so nice and I definitly recommend the hostel! They have a lot of events as well;)
We stayed nearby and wanted to surf in Playa Chamán. We rented boards (surfboards and body boards) from Flutterby on three occasions and had lunch there. It was all a great experience and the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Highly recommended !
This hostel was recommended to me by 4 different travelers and it did not disappoint. It was filled with fellow backpackers of all ages so it was a breeze to meet others, very important for a solo like me. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and really went out if their way to make my stay enjoyable. I highly recommend this hostel to anyone staying in Uvita.
I just finished a 4 night stay in this hostel, and for the sake of accuracy, wanted to write my review right away. In general, this hostel was everything I thought it would be. It came highly recommended from fellow backpacker friends — they raved about the food and drinks, the amenities (surfboards, yoga classes on a special deck and a really lovely kitchen) and it truly did feel like a home away from home. I arrived at 9pm after a grueling day of air and bus travel (and a 45 minute walk down those infamous Uvita dirt roads) to an eclectic group of travelers, very friendly staff, music pumping and my accommodations ready to go. I stayed in Vista Iguana, a treehouse that was above the staff facilities so was super quiet. Here’s a quick pros and cons list for my fellow travelers: PROS: - friendly staff (ESTEBAN YOU ARE LOVELY) - surfboards of all sizes readily available for cheap rent - restaurant and bar on site with an early start time and reasonable cutoff time - great vibes - close to the beach - clean bathrooms - eco-friendly and organic mindset - beautiful grounds CONS: - there is no part of this hostel that is indoors. It is incredibly humid and hot in all the rooms, all the time. - it’s hard to get anything truly dry, per the above. Literally the bedding, any wet clothing, towels, etc. will smell like mildew within three days. I would recommend, if you’re prolonging your stay, to switch up your room every 4 days or so if you want it to remain super fresh. - because it’s outside, insects are a problem in the rooms but they provide great mosquito netting for the beds that helped keep them off the sleeping areas. Heads up: the online instructions for arriving by bus are okay, but one crucial detail is that if you are like many travelers and are coming from San Jose airport area via TRACOPA bus, you’re going to want to tell your driver ahead of the stop that you’re going to Flutterby. The restaurant where they make a stop in Uvita (mentioned on Flutterby’s website) is nowhere near the hostel (it’s a couple miles away) and there aren’t any signs pointing you in any direction for at least a half mile. If you want to walk from the restaurant stop, just leave the parking lot and turn right and walk until you see a sign for Flutterby on your right. Otherwise, tell your driver and he or she can get you closer.…
