My wife and I visited Oxygen Jungle Villas for the first time last year, to celebrate our anniversary, and had a phenomenal experience. This year, we had planned for and purchased a trip to an exclusive resort in Jamaica, that we had never been to before. A few months before the trip my wife looked at me and said, “i don’t want to go to Jamaica, I want to go back to Oxygen”…sooo, we went through the major hassle of getting our money back from that trip and re-scheduling our flights, so that we could go back to Oxygen. We spent 8 days at Oxygen this time around and we are so glad we did!!! Despite the 16 hours it takes us to get there (doorstep-to-doorstep)it is more than worth it!! The grounds are beautiful, and exclusive, just as advertised, but it’s the staff that makes this place so phenomenal. They are so kind, so helpful, and so accommodating!! I don’t know where to start, and I don’t want to leave anyone out so here goes… Isaac is a workhorse running the show, often behind the scenes, and is always wearing a smile and ready for a friendly conversation. There was some electrical issues that came up while we were there and this man was out with the maintenance team with machetes and shovels navigating the jungle all-night and into the next day until they found the problem and fixed it. The maintenance team was always around working hard on something to make the place run well. At the front desk Aaron and Emmanuel were more than accommodating getting absolutely everything scheduled that we needed and were extremely responsive whenever we reached out via WhatsApp to inquire about something. Aaron spearheaded the ‘mission’ to make my wife’s “secret location” massage wish come true. Emmanuel has a rough and tough exterior (but is a big teddy bear once you get to know him) and my wife “nick-named” him “the security guard because he gives off an energy that “you are safe and sound as long as I am around”. At the bar and in the restaurant you had the team of Luis, Jason, Omar, Jose, and Ana who were always so helpful and so kind and always ready for a great conversation. Luis brought us many smiles and laughs and shared his knowledge of Costa Rica with us over many conversations at the bar while he masterfully made phenomenal drinks from Margarita’s to Milkshakes. He also coordinated our anniversary dinner which was absolutely fabulous…best Lobster we ever ate in our lives! He pulled off a “magic trick” with a dessert that involved liquor and fire like the showman he is. Jason is constantly hustling and working hard to make all the guest experiences around him a great memory. One day when we had gone for a walk on the “whale-tail beach” and on the way out a gentleman was selling coconuts freshly cut with a straw in them to drink the milk. We passed, thinking that we would get the coconut from him on the way back…unfortunately he was gone when we returned and my wife lamented this because she had so looked forward to this Costa Rican beach treat. When we got back to Oxygen, she just on a whim asked Jason if he had any coconuts she could make him. He said, “no but give me 15 minutes and I got you.” This man then proceeded to use a 20 foot tool to cut coconuts down, skin them, and make us some delicious coconuts with straws in them!!! are you serious?? who else would do that and where??? Omar always brought an encouraging spirit and great conversation and was extremely attentive to detail around the way my wife wanted her food and drinks. (If you want an extra laugh, ask Omar about the differences between he and Luis…LOL.) Jose, is extremely knowledgeable about the area around Oxygen and was a source of wisdom about the whales. His spirit is so kind and gentle and he was constantly working to make everything just right. He made my wife tea that she keeps talking about and she asked him to show the other staff so they could emulate his excellent creation. He is extremely attentive even noticing a slang term from our part of the country and looking it up to see what exactly it meant and how to use it. (you can’t make this stuff up). Ana brought the same kindness and attention to detail to her service and also really opened up and in conversation shared the wisdom beyond her years that will likely have her running a successful business in the future. She is a natural leader and it shows in her work-ethic and understanding of how everything works as a team. Kimberley led the phenomenal experience we had with the girls in the spa…we had trouble staying away from them and ended up getting 3 massages while we were there. Each one was a blissful experience that left me saying to myself, “I need to find a place that gives massages like this close to home.” Dania, coordinated the housekeeping team and made sure that our villa was always spotless and comfortable. Your are in the jungle so bugs are never far away but they made sure that they stayed outside of our villa, and they did it with a smile. Last, but very definitely not least, Tony was a maestro in the kitchen. Remember those lobsters I mentioned earlier…well my wife loved it so much that she requested another round our last night there and even though he was scheduled off Tony tracked down the lobsters in the market himself, came in and marinated them, and cooked them for us!! Let me say that again…this man took his day off and came to make us another phenomenal meal…yet another example of what this place is all about…like I said earlier the staff is the kindest, warmest, hardest-working, most accommodating group of folks you’ll ever meet!! They put their heart and soul into whatever they are doing. I don’t know who owns this place but if they are reading this…please, give your employees a raise and be accommodating towards their needs…they are the heart and soul of Oxygen and you don’t want to lose them. Fellow Travelers— If you are considering going any other place I recommend you cancel it and spend your whole trip at this place. Explore around the area but you couldn’t have a better home base than Oxygen while you are in Costa Rica. We went looking for a great vacation and not only did we get that but we feel like we now have a family in Costa Rica made up of all the phenomenal folks at Oxygen! We’ll be back, hopefully sooner and later to see our Costa Rica family of Isaac, and Aaron, and Emmanuel, and Luis, and Jason, and Omar, and Jose, and Ana, and Tony, and Kimberly, and Dania. We’re supposed to go to Fiji next year but wouldn’t you know it…we’re now 2nd guessing that trip too…because the Oxygen staff wouldn’t be there!!…
