    Spectacular Jungle Experience
We stayed 4 nights at Oxygen in one of the ocean view villas. Although a bit more pricey, it was hands down one of the nicest and most unique places we have ever stayed, so it was totally worth it. Waking up to the sunshine, views of the ocean and jungle is something that I will always remember. My husband and I loved that although you feel like your submerged in nature and solace, the villas still offer all the modern amenities to make a stay more enjoyable. The beds/pillows were super comfy and the cleaning staff does a great job cleaning up multiple times throughout day as it’s easy to drag in a lot of mud and what not. Beyond the villas, the pool area, bar and restaurant area were also gorgeous and perfect for relaxing. The best part about the pool and location is that the sun will not hit the area the entire day so it’s not like you’re baking outside like you would be at a beach location in Costa Rica. This made it super enjoyable because we could sit by the pool all day and relax. The spa/massage was also spectacular and reasonable pricing. The food is fantastic but do be aware that it’s smaller portions for dinner at least, so for my husband who is 6’6” and eats a lot, that meant we did eat offsite at times just due to him being more hungry. The road to the hotel is def rugged, we are from Colorado and this road is very similar to getting to a hiking trailhead, so make sure car is 4x4. Our first rental was not and we got stuck going up the hill. Last but not least, the staff of Oxygen was amazing. They were beyond helpful and so attentive to our needs…shout-out to Luis and Gayvin, they were so amazing!!! They are some of the best bartenders/mixologists ever, the cocktails and margs were incredible. Highly recommend Oxygen to any couple wanting a relaxing and unique stay.

    Beautiful resort
Beautiful property, incredibly friendly bi-lingual staff, great restaurant too! Rooms were very peaceful and comfortable; the staff comes by and tidied up at an almost alarming rate (not a bad thing at all). The waterfall hike in the jungle was awesome too. We booked a snorkel trip to Caño island through Oxygen and it went great - they made us breakfast early, and the trip itself was a blast. My wife and I stayed at Oxygen on our 10-year anniversary trip and we absolutely loved it.
Thank you Travis for reviewing us and rating the property and its staff team with an excellent score! I am very happy your 10 year anniversary trip was a blast. We hope you can visit back. Jorge Andres Guerrero. Hospitality Expert

So, so close to being incredible
This hotel is so, so very close to being an incredible place to stay. You definitely need a 4x4 to get here as it’s up a steep path, so heed their advice! The welcome drink (a pina colada) was a great touch, and something that we hadn’t come across in Costa Rica yet. A cool towel on arrival as well would also be a great touch (something you get in other hot countries). We arrived about 1pm, were told that we couldn’t have our room until 2, which was fine, but we were then told nearly an hour later that we actually couldn’t have it until 3, which was a bit annoying considering we’d been waiting. If we had known it was 3, we’d have just gone into the town. When we got into the room, it was really nice - the guy who took us there showed us all the features of the room, which was really helpful. Its nice to be able to shut out the actual nature (AKA the bugs) but still be able to experience it, which is what’s great about this place... and it’s so nice to have aircon! The room was lovely and clean, but the toilet did whiff a bit. I mentioned this when we checked out and I did actually get an email from the hotel a day or so later saying they had replaced the toilet seat, so hopefully that solves the problem! The breakfast was good (I had the breakfast burrito) and I can’t say for lunch or dinner as we went out. I can’t quite understand why breakfast isn’t included in the room rate and you have to pay separately - that seems mad to me, especially as the breakfast is really reasonably priced. I’d rather pay a few $ more upfront and have my breakfast included, as I think paying for that additionally takes away from the ‘luxury’ feel. The pool area is really nice. It’s relaxing, it has a great view but it’s annoyingly close to the dining area and reception. The staff here are great and this is definitely some of the best service I experienced in Costa Rica (where for the most part, I feel the service is lacking). Again, this is so, so, so close to being an amazing hotel. Just a few small changes could really take it up a notch and would mean it would get a 5* from me if I stayed again. So, fingers crossed! The place to go? Yes
Dear Bonnie, Thank you for your honest and constructive review, I appreciate you noticing and mentioning how Oxygen sets itself apart from other Costa Rican hotels providing exceptional great service. I was the person that wrote you the next day to let you know we had resolved the issue you brought up. Please write me back with your suggestions on how we can improve, most changes we make to be better come from our guest feedback. I want to let you know that we include breakfast in all reservations received directly via hotel website, phone or email. As you mentioned, our breakfast prices are very affordable, however we cannot include it in reservations made through third parties because of the large commission fees they take. We hope to have you back soon! Jorge Andres Guerrero Hospitality Expert

We spent the last few days of our honeymoon here and loved it, they have hikes to onsite waterfalls, delicious food, cocktails and an amazing spa amongst nature, 100% recommend a massage. The villa, whilst glass walled felt very private and had everything we needed. We were easily able to drive down to Uvita for a boat trip and horse riding on the beach. The sunsets skies were stunning. The team gave us champagne to celebrate and ensured we had a really special stay.

We stayed for 2 nights and we did not like a few details. We stay a lot in hotels of this price range and we thought it was overrated. The staff is not unfriendly but not very professional. We had two bad experiences at the restaurant and they were handled badly. The waiters at the restaurant scream into the kitchen and one of them literally slammed the food on our table. The shrimps had a bad smell of armonia and he told the kitchen. The message from the chef was that I did not know what I’m talking about and that cultivated Shrimps always had that taste and smell. The pool and the spa, including the massage, were great. But the restaurant does not fit the price range of the hotel. Oh, the bathroom is inside the Villa and has no ceiling. Not good if you travel with friends instead of family. I would not stay there again, even so it’s an awesome location.

My wife and I visited Oxygen Jungle Villas for the first time last year, to celebrate our anniversary, and had a phenomenal experience. This year, we had planned for and purchased a trip to an exclusive resort in Jamaica, that we had never been to before. A few months before the trip my wife looked at me and said, “i don’t want to go to Jamaica, I want to go back to Oxygen”…sooo, we went through the major hassle of getting our money back from that trip and re-scheduling our flights, so that we could go back to Oxygen. We spent 8 days at Oxygen this time around and we are so glad we did!!! Despite the 16 hours it takes us to get there (doorstep-to-doorstep)it is more than worth it!! The grounds are beautiful, and exclusive, just as advertised, but it’s the staff that makes this place so phenomenal. They are so kind, so helpful, and so accommodating!! I don’t know where to start, and I don’t want to leave anyone out so here goes… Isaac is a workhorse running the show, often behind the scenes, and is always wearing a smile and ready for a friendly conversation. There was some electrical issues that came up while we were there and this man was out with the maintenance team with machetes and shovels navigating the jungle all-night and into the next day until they found the problem and fixed it. The maintenance team was always around working hard on something to make the place run well. At the front desk Aaron and Emmanuel were more than accommodating getting absolutely everything scheduled that we needed and were extremely responsive whenever we reached out via WhatsApp to inquire about something. Aaron spearheaded the ‘mission’ to make my wife’s “secret location” massage wish come true. Emmanuel has a rough and tough exterior (but is a big teddy bear once you get to know him) and my wife “nick-named” him “the security guard because he gives off an energy that “you are safe and sound as long as I am around”. At the bar and in the restaurant you had the team of Luis, Jason, Omar, Jose, and Ana who were always so helpful and so kind and always ready for a great conversation. Luis brought us many smiles and laughs and shared his knowledge of Costa Rica with us over many conversations at the bar while he masterfully made phenomenal drinks from Margarita’s to Milkshakes. He also coordinated our anniversary dinner which was absolutely fabulous…best Lobster we ever ate in our lives! He pulled off a “magic trick” with a dessert that involved liquor and fire like the showman he is. Jason is constantly hustling and working hard to make all the guest experiences around him a great memory. One day when we had gone for a walk on the “whale-tail beach” and on the way out a gentleman was selling coconuts freshly cut with a straw in them to drink the milk. We passed, thinking that we would get the coconut from him on the way back…unfortunately he was gone when we returned and my wife lamented this because she had so looked forward to this Costa Rican beach treat. When we got back to Oxygen, she just on a whim asked Jason if he had any coconuts she could make him. He said, “no but give me 15 minutes and I got you.” This man then proceeded to use a 20 foot tool to cut coconuts down, skin them, and make us some delicious coconuts with straws in them!!! are you serious?? who else would do that and where??? Omar always brought an encouraging spirit and great conversation and was extremely attentive to detail around the way my wife wanted her food and drinks. (If you want an extra laugh, ask Omar about the differences between he and Luis…LOL.) Jose, is extremely knowledgeable about the area around Oxygen and was a source of wisdom about the whales. His spirit is so kind and gentle and he was constantly working to make everything just right. He made my wife tea that she keeps talking about and she asked him to show the other staff so they could emulate his excellent creation. He is extremely attentive even noticing a slang term from our part of the country and looking it up to see what exactly it meant and how to use it. (you can’t make this stuff up). Ana brought the same kindness and attention to detail to her service and also really opened up and in conversation shared the wisdom beyond her years that will likely have her running a successful business in the future. She is a natural leader and it shows in her work-ethic and understanding of how everything works as a team. Kimberley led the phenomenal experience we had with the girls in the spa…we had trouble staying away from them and ended up getting 3 massages while we were there. Each one was a blissful experience that left me saying to myself, “I need to find a place that gives massages like this close to home.” Dania, coordinated the housekeeping team and made sure that our villa was always spotless and comfortable. Your are in the jungle so bugs are never far away but they made sure that they stayed outside of our villa, and they did it with a smile. Last, but very definitely not least, Tony was a maestro in the kitchen. Remember those lobsters I mentioned earlier…well my wife loved it so much that she requested another round our last night there and even though he was scheduled off Tony tracked down the lobsters in the market himself, came in and marinated them, and cooked them for us!! Let me say that again…this man took his day off and came to make us another phenomenal meal…yet another example of what this place is all about…like I said earlier the staff is the kindest, warmest, hardest-working, most accommodating group of folks you’ll ever meet!! They put their heart and soul into whatever they are doing. I don’t know who owns this place but if they are reading this…please, give your employees a raise and be accommodating towards their needs…they are the heart and soul of Oxygen and you don’t want to lose them. Fellow Travelers— If you are considering going any other place I recommend you cancel it and spend your whole trip at this place. Explore around the area but you couldn’t have a better home base than Oxygen while you are in Costa Rica. We went looking for a great vacation and not only did we get that but we feel like we now have a family in Costa Rica made up of all the phenomenal folks at Oxygen! We’ll be back, hopefully sooner and later to see our Costa Rica family of Isaac, and Aaron, and Emmanuel, and Luis, and Jason, and Omar, and Jose, and Ana, and Tony, and Kimberly, and Dania. We’re supposed to go to Fiji next year but wouldn’t you know it…we’re now 2nd guessing that trip too…because the Oxygen staff wouldn’t be there!!

What an absolutely amazing experience! The resort was even more beautiful than I imagined, the rooms were comfortable and private. But the staff was the true highlight of our stay. The staff at Oxygen were directly responsible for making this one of the best vacations I've ever been on. The personalized service was the best I've ever experienced. Everyone working there was exceptionally kind and accommodating. They made genuine, personal connections and developed real friendships with us. They were also able to make me three delicious meals every day despite my numerous allergies and intolerances. The resort arranged all rides and tours for us, making it easy for us to relax and focus on having fun because we could avoid the stress of renting a car and driving everywhere. I highly recommend Oxygen to anyone traveling to Uvita! Thank you again to everyone at Oxygen, this was an experience we won't forget and we can't wait to return.

I’m giving three stars because we didn’t actually make it there, but my experience was one star and I think it may be relevant to other potential guests. I would be very concerned about their ability to manage issues given the exchange I had with them. I am duplicating it exactly - cut and paste - except for removing names and prices. I’m taking out the price as a courtesy to them because it was a good price. One email from me has a phone autocorrect that replaced “with” with “north.” Otherwise, I think I was clear. There were no other communications and I don’t share a name with a famous criminal. I’m not on any kind of travel blacklist. I have a very generic name and used a gmail address. They don’t seem to push a couples only theme, and one of the villas has a sofa bed (but that was already booked on their website). So I really think this was just the staff being completely unable to communicate and unhelpful. It was frustrating, so I guess I should be grateful we aren’t going. Me: Is it possible to get a cot in an ocean view villa for august 9 through august 14? This would be for two adults, my son and me. OJV: Good morning xxx. Yes, we offer you one Ocean View Villa available for those days. The cost per night per couple would be $xxxUSD taxes and breakfast included. Me: Good morning! That sounds very nice, but is it possible to have a cot in the room? I am traveling north my adult son and we don’t want to share the bed. OJV: Unfortunately, children are not allowed in the hotel. Me: He is an adult. He is 22 years old. It would be just me and him, two people, both adults. But we would need a cot. Is that possible? OJV: No, unfortunately we can't get a crib, since the hotel is for adults only, we don't have cribs in our facilities, sorry.

We wanted something that was very high quality but also intimate for our honeymoon and this place absolutely exceeded our expectations! The food was the best we have ever had and the service was above top notch. Luis, Jose, Anna, Omar, Emanuel and more make you feel so at home and offer an incredible experience. The food, the cocktails, the coffee and the facilities are just amazing. A busy day at the pool might be 2-3 couples! It’s very low key which is what we preferred. The staff helped us with excursions, taxis and local tips to help our experience even better off the resort. If you’re looking for a party or a late night this place isn’t it. It closes down at 10pm and most the time everyone is in their villas before 9pm. The facilities are very clean and everything was very well thought out. We will certainly be back. 5 Stars hands down.

My wife and I had an amazing experience at Oxygen! We love the area and plan to come back in the future. Some things you should know are at the end, but first let me tell you about the experience. The property and the villas are beautiful. The staff made us feel very welcome, and they took care of all our needs. José and Luis were caring, friendly and excellent servers. They gave 5 star service without being pretentious or heavy handed. When we wanted to talk, they talked. When we wanted privacy, they kept their distance. We didn't have a single bad experience with any of our food and drinks (both were amazing!). I didn't think I'd be ordering special drinks, but I am glad I did. Luis also bartends with Jason, and both are like artisans with their mixology. The front desk with Aaron and Emmanuel made sure we had great experiences, and they assisted us in making plans and spreading out our activities. Those two were as warm and welcoming as everyone. One of them overheard it was my birthday and took the time to arrange a bouquet of flowers to be waiting for me at our villa (fresh from the jungle surroundings, not everyday store bought). In fact, the spa staff, drivers, cleaning staff and grounds keepers were all incredibly friendly. The people working there help make it special, and along with the excellent food and breath taking surroundings, the whole trip was the best trip we've ever had! We had a lot of seafood from the restaurant, but we also had chicken and beef dishes. We were very happy with every meal, although we rarely had room for dessert. We had couples massages and went back another time for facials. Both were as good as we've ever had, regardless of being in such beautiful surroundings. Speaking of the beautiful surroundings, I encourage everyone to walk the hiking trail and see the wildlife in the area (and waterfalls). There were beautiful plants everywhere we looked, but we saw birds, sloths, monkeys and lizards without leaving the hotel. Around 5 in the morning and 5 at night the jungle wakes up and settles down for the night. It is a great time to sit on your balcony and listen to all the activity. We stayed at 2 villas with soaking tubs, which I highly recommend both for the beauty and the privacy. We spent little time at the pool, because with the villas we had there was no reason to leave! One villa we stayed at was "oceanview," and the other was "jungle view." Both were identical, except for the location. The jungle view was more private, but the ocean view was a MUCH more convenient walk to the restaurant. If you fly into San Jose, be prepared for a 4 hour car ride. The trip isn't bad, but you don't want to waste an entire day traveling if you can help it. We arrived in time for lunch, so we didn't feel like our first day was wasted. Other travelers arriving late in the day wished they had planned better. Also be prepared that any time you want to leave the property it involves a taxi ride (or a very difficult hike). We might have planned buying souvenirs and such better if we had realized that. You can use American dollars or Costa Rican colons interchangeably. If you are looking for a good activity, we highly recommend an ATV tour. It has its thrilling moments, but you really get to explore the countryside more than horseback riding or zip lining. The hotel staff can arrange all these for you. We came in early May expecting rain and mosquitos, but didn't have problems with either one. It only rained 30 minutes the entire time. The water at the hotel comes from a spring, and although we were skeptical, we drank out of the taps the whole time (we don't even do that at home). The only thing I wish was different about the room was more storage for unpacking luggage and better lighting by the bathroom mirror. This may not be the place to immerse yourself in local culture, but if you want a luxurious and memorable experience, Oxygen will not disappoint. Can't wait to go back! Pura Vida!
