A friend and I stayed with Merina in one of the Jungalows last March. The property was absolutely beautiful and Merina's hospitality was fantastic. We saw dozens of howling monkeys climbing in the trees above the jungalows (don't be alarmed like we were in the middle of the night!) The property was a short bus ride from Montezuma (runs several... More

Really good price for the experience you get. The rooms are a lot of fun. For us, the town of Cabuya was perfect. It was close to the benefits of Montezuma or Santa Teresa without being in the heart of tourist country. Merina was the perfect host for easing us into our Costa Rica experience, giving us great advice for... More

We spent 2 nights here, to visit the reserve and the waterfalls. We really liked it. Marina is a wonderful lady, cheerful and ready to help. The rooms are comfortable and the shared kitchen is huge. There is good vibes here, you can feel it and it makes you feel great. Ask Marina any question you have : she has... More

Even before we arrived, the owner Merina checked on ferry times and schedules for us since it was Christmas when we were traveling. Her hospitality continued to be incredibly warm and helpful the three nights we stayed with her over Christmas 2012. She even bought us Christmas tamales made by a local tico who specializes in them as a present... More

We spent three nights in a Jungalow and really enjoyed our stay. As we arrived, the howler monkeys were already in the trees of the hotel area. Within our stay the big group of howler monkeys stopped there every day at least once on their tour through the trees of Cabuya. The Jungalow was really nice and with the lovely... More

I recently stayed at Ancla de Oro in Cabuya for seven nights and I totally loved it. I was looking for somewhere with peace and quiet and I found it. The current owners are absolutely lovely and welcoming and the current manager Nadya and her son made my stay an extra special time through their warm hospitality. I understand that... More

My boyfriend and I spent December and January backpacking across Costa Rica. We found Ancla de Oro by accident, as we originally planned to stay in Montezuma. The two owners, Marina and Neco were fantastic. I loved the atmosphere and the people who were staying there were amazing! It was such an experience. One night the owners made a fish... More

Ancla de Oro was a big disappointment -- looked great online, but in reality, not so great. We stayed in the largest jungalow with 2 twin size beds and 2 double beds. One of the beds didn't have sheets and the owner said he was going to bring them, but never did. There were only three towels for the four... More

We visit Cabuya and love the real Costa Rica over there. In a litle fisching village with pure nature, beaches and just a few miles from the action of the populair but overcrowded places of Montezuma and Mal Pais. We found this potential pearl and want to save it from its desperate owner. So we will not give any review... More

Calling this place a hotel is a huge overstatement. It's more of a fraternity house for the owner and his drunken neighbors who come and go as they please at all hours of the day and night. Your room may be one crammed with one or two beds where you have to crawl in from the foot of the bed... More
