Blue Reef became some sort of 2nd house for me and my husband in the last 3 years ❤️ In August 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic, without any doubt we came back for the 3rd time and found the same caring attitude, same cool and fun atmosphere, friendly staff and authentic vibe. Blue Reef Lodge is definitely not the fancy, luxury and glamorous type of vacation. So if you enjoy and appreciate the authenticity and simplicity, relaxed atmosphere without too much fuss, delicious food, friendly and passionate people around you, than this is your place! Thank you Blue Reef team and see you next time 🤗

We had an amazing vacation in Blue Reef Sport & Fishing Lodge this September. It was our second stay in the same hotel, with the first being in January 2020 when we came just as a couple for only four nights. That time we felt four days wasn't enough, thus, we came back in September with our 2 years old baby for 10 nights. 1) STAY WITH KIDS - Whilst the hotel is not well known as being suitable for vacations with infant/todlers, hotel staff has made it's best to accomodate us. We've communicated to the hotel when we're coming in and they have prepared the bungalo accordingly i.e. brought in a baby chair and baby bed. During the stay staff was super helpful and humble. Our meals were delivered directly to the bungalow - instead of us coming up to the restaurant. 2) FOOD - My wife and baby are vegetarian and at first we were stressed that it will be challenging to get meat-less meals. However, hotels' head shef (name: Good Luck) has done great job by providing us with a variety of vegetarian (and vegan) dishes, it was something above our expectations. On the other hand, I have enjoyed fresh sea food dishes daily, some of which were: grilled king prawns, tuna tartar, crab and lobster curries, etc - all at comparatively low prices (I consider USD 20 as reasonable price for a big lobster ). 3) OWNERS were at the hotel and daily and addressed any issue on the spot. Special thanks Niki, Thomas and Nathan - you run this place seamlessly and we apreciate your care. 4) STAFF - Gibon, Anton, Carlos, Raphael - you guys are amazing; thanks for always accomodating our (at times tough) requests. 5) SEA SIDE and NATURE - we have travelled across the world and been to multiple islands and seassides (Bali/Mauritius/Thailand/etc.) - I can certainly say that Jambiani beach outruns all we've seen by far. The bach is alive - all sorts of fishes, sea starts, crabs, corals, etc makes it a perfect spot for snorkling and diving. 6) ACTIVITES - as we were with the baby, we could't do many things but we've been offered to go for a fishing trip with hotel owners. From what we've seen, they were able to catch masive tuna (20kg and above), wahu, etc. I were also aware that there are many beach parites and full moon parties, which we couldn'y attend for the abovementioned reason (our baby). Overall, I recomend this hotel for anyone who would like to diconnect from busy cities and enjoy remarable seaside and delicious sea food.

We stayed at the Bungalows for 2 weeks. The Bungalows are quiet and very relaxing in beautiful surroundings. Both the staff and the management are superb! The rooms are very clean, and the outdoors very tidy. They provided us with whatever we desired of food and beverages as well as different day-trips. They arrange a wide range of activities for their guests. You dont have to prebook anything. I highly recommend both the pizzeria at the Bungalows and the resturant at the Lodge. We would especially like to thank our fishing-buddies Nathan and Peter! We had a great time with you- both on shore and at sea. We hope to see all of you again some day!

We are a couple in our fifties who went to Zanzibar on recommendation of friends. We booked our flight and booked the Blue reef hotel because of the reviews it had on TripAdvisor. If you are looking for a clean, comfortable and well maintained hotel hotel that faces directly onto a beautiful beach then the Blue reef is for you. The owners are three Dutch people who are approachable and helpful giving advice on places to visit on the island. The staff working at the hotel are very friendly and the food served in the hotel restaurant is superb and reasonably priced.

It’s the hospitality that stood out for me at this budget hotel. The staff made the stay so much better. The hotel is on the beach so great for water sports or long runs. You will be pleasantly surprised to see how much joy the local people take in playing soccer on this beach! The beach has a lot of Masai’s trying to sell their goods so don’t forget to bargain! Blue reef has good local Swahili food and surprisingly great pizza’s too! If you are lucky you might even get to see the orion’s belt / sky twinkling with millions of stars! Overall this is a good hotel with comfortable beds. No air conditioning so it does get quite hot at night but the staff was nice enough to orangish a fan. If you want to wander around you can look for places making local food (pilau) rice cooked with meat. Drink bottled water only.
