Our family of 4 spent our first week of the new year at Hosteria Mandala and will definitely come back! The Hosteria has a great set-up, is nicely decorated with beautiful and very colorful artwork, the rooms are super spacious, well maintained and clean. We loved spending time in the hammocks on our private balcony while drinking cold beer. The garden is really pretty with enormous flowers, beautiful palm trees and there are big iguana's in the trees. The birds woke us up every morning with their lively chattering and songs - and then the sound of the waves in the background...a dream! Overall a wonderful place to spend time relaxing and enjoying the beach!
Stayed in January 2020 for 3 nights at the end of a 3 week trip as somewhere to relax. HM was perfect for that. We stayed in Turtle, which was upstairs, large , clean and comfortable, and a long way from reception and the beach road, although there was still a road nearby. It being Puerto Lopez and Ano Nuevo it was pretty noisy everywhere, but this felt like about as quiet as you could get. Bathroom spacious, plumbing excellent, beds comfy. There was a lovely balcony with hammocks which was great for a bit of relaxed birdwatching. Hosteria gardens were well-established and well cared for, lots of great plants for our botanist. Reception staff were excellent and the secure lockers were a great idea and worked well. And you can just walk into the sea anytime! Breakfast was a little small, especially after the excesses of everywhere else we stayed. But it was tasty. Thoroughly recommended…
Stayed here during the pandemic of 2020. The hosteria is really amazing. You can see that the owner put their soul into the design. Every room features a different design. Beautiful common area and a little rooftop with a view of a pacific ocean. The service is good. WiFi is fast and breakfast is tasty. The only problem I had is that they said they confirmed our trip to Isla de la Plata and we found it out the island was closed on that day. Luckily we were able to change our plans and visit the island the next day.
So many good things to report. Good, pleasant service. Good breakfast. Clean, nice room, comfortable bed. Good bedding. Excellent shower (both water pressure and temperature). Lovely, extensive gardens. Fun names given to the cabañas... Views to the beach from the breakfast terrace, but not from the cabañas. Direct access to the beach. Good security. Quick (pricey for Ecuador) laundry service. Attractive woodwork everywhere you looked. A couple warnings (for those that might be fussed). The Hosteria is at the extreme end of the Malecón, quite a long walk into town, but this is a plus if you want quiet, if you don’t need to be among the revelers. Some of the cabañas are quite tightly packed together. We could touch the two in front, from my lanai, and could hear every word (and baby's scream) from the one behind. Fortunately, the two in front were not occupied, so the fact that we were looking straight into the bedroom didn’t actually matter this stay.…
The beauty of the handcrafted lodge and cabañas is only exceeded by the beauty of the people. The owners and staff are outstanding - caring and friendly. Delicious and filling breakfast, towels and hammocks available for the use of the guests, games and toys galore, extensive library, music room and plenty of hidden corners to escape and relax.
