Maximas hostel has a full kitchen and common area surrounded by well kept grounds. Maxima herself is half the reason to go there and her pets (dogs, cats, turtles and freaking kinkajou!!) make up the other half. At night a nearby nightclub can be a bit loud but that is the only downside. It is 1.5 blocks from the beach.
What a lovely place full of lovely animals. Lots of space to chill & relax & good views from the higher sections of this compound. Highly recommended, especially if you love animals like me. There's good WiFi & the main supermarket is literally around the corner, also a stone's throw away from the beach.
Our welcome was less than enthusiastic, apart from the dogs, who greeted us warmly. The staff were far less friendly. the room was clean-ish, two towels of postage sized proportions made it difficult to get dry in the humid heat but the hotel has pleasant grounds and an unusual resident - a kinkachoo ( rescued). The bar area said drinks were available but no staff were there to serve them. When we passed staff members, we got a grunt or a scowl. The dogs, however, remained friendly.
The hostel is located just a bit away from the boulevard, which is very nice because when we were there party was going on on the beach for a long time. Still close enough to the beach and restaurants. It is incredibly cheap for its value: nice big rooms, hot water and all perfectly clean. There is a nice courtyard/garden with a space for hammocks where you can relax. Even though we were here only for one night (after having fled from another horrible hostel in town), it seemed like a place where you can easily spend a lot of time. Maxima is lovely, very welcoming and helpful, and fluent in English.
Maxima and her husband are very nice people and the top rooms overlooking the town and some of the beach was pretty nice, compared to the price. The room was large, clean and had hot water. The wifi was a bit sketchy though. Besides that, it was noisy, the beds were quite hard and had a way too small mosquito net. The common area had a nice green yard, however it was nastily littered with dog landmines (dog poop) and the kitchen was pretty unclean with an occasional visit from a rat.
