The owner of this campground is aweful! Never have i been treated this badly at any campground! First she changed the spot i had reserved (i had actually gone to the campground and picked a spot with her as i wanted shade. I have health conditions and the sun just about kills me), she told me they were full and she didnt have a spot for me then gave me what i would consider to be the worst spot in the place. There was a storm and 6 hour power outage. She closed the bathrooms. No sign of explanation. No recommendations of an alternative for those with no bathroom. Just locked. When i called the office about it there was no answer. I had to ask a seasonal camper if i could use his bathroom. How embarrassing. 24 hours after i got there.... she shows up at our site and without looking for me... starts badmouthing me to the people behind me about the fact that my water hose was leaking and "wasting my well water" (a normal and considerate person would have calmly and respectfully asked me to fix it. Turns out there was a split in the washer ring i did not know about and with my arthritis i wasnt able to tighten the hose more. She then proceeds to disconnect my hose and throw it to the ground and told the other camper "she has been nothing bit a pain in the *behind* [she used another word] since she got here, she will never come here again..." ( i was in my camper and heard her myself)! They came to me after and said "did you hear that. She is crazy." They stated they will never come to this place again and neither will I (and we were the quietest ones there)! The owner never said these words to my face. She called my cell and told me in an aggressive tone to not hook my water up until i fixed my hose. Never told me i wasnt welcome again but did say she was coming back in an hour to make sure i wasnt wasting her well water. . Later she showed up and i was talking to the lady behind me and she said in a more pleasant voice "i disconnected your hose because the other campers said the water was pouring out and wasting the well water". When she drove away the other lady and i both said she was two faced. No mention of dont come back. There were Drunk people driving golf carts everywhere. Loud music playing every night until midnight! I felt like i was at a huge concert venue. Bathroom is disgusting. Play ground is pathetic. Pool is not well maintained. Maneuvering campers is difficult because of randomly placed huge rocks. Dogs running unleashed defecating everywhere (the people behind me stepped in poop when they got there and were setting up and their dog was still in the truck) and dogs all over were barking incessantly! On the morning we were leaving she came by and said to the lady behind me.... people are complaining about these two dogs (mine and hers) barling incessantly all weekend. The lady behind me said... not her dog. He was quiet all weekend. It was my dog that was barking.... of course other peoples dogs did their share of barking. When i left i called the office and told her i was checking out. She never said dont come next weekend. I pleasantly told her to cancel next weekend. I am not going back. One a side not the two other camp grounds in the area had power outages too and did not close their bathrooms that are also on a well. I highly doubt my dripping hose would drain the well. The campground is on a lake.... pretty sure the well has lots of water too. I for one think the owner is crazy and i am never going back there! I was looking for a seasonal lot.... NOT THERE! Never recommending them!

For some reason this is the first time I saw this review. Great Bear is sorry your stay was so awful. Wish we could have addressed your concerns in person.

Very nice spot! We recently spent some time at Great Bear, they have a great laid back, friendly atmosphere! Only thing we would change is MANY many people have dogs of leash, which can be unsafe for many reasons like many dogs get nervous when another dog runs up to it off leash and they are properly on leash which could cause a fight so not safe for either dog! Or people that are nervous of dogs don’t appreciate random dogs loose! Besides that we had a lovely stay and would definitely consider coming back to great bear! And would certainly recommend it to others! Thanks!

I really appreciate you bringing this issue to our attention. We have issued a firm reminder to our campers to reinforce our long standing policy. Dogs are allowed at Great Bear but if they are off the campers lot they must be on a leash. Sorry we were not aware of this concern during your stay

My parents use to take myself and my siblings camping at Great Bear when I was a child, now I take my family there. Gorgeous scenery, clean washrooms, family friendly, fantastic owner and staff, and fun events throughout the summer, this place has it all!

Our family travelled from campground to campground for years. Last summer we made the decision to go seasonal, and boy am I so glad we chose Great Bear for this adventure!! Our children love it here! They have made many friends, and they spend their days outside running, playing, swimming, and exploring! We have made some lifelong friends here ourselves, and I can genuinely say that last summer was one of the best summers of my life! This summer is off to another great start, even with the covid restrictions. I am so thankful to Val for her vigilance in keeping us all safe, and that my children have a place to be children throughout the summer!
