I stay here regularly with work but would happily do so on a leisure visit. The rooms are all individual and very elegant. The food is fresh and well cooked and the breakfast is great. There is wifi throughout and a large car park. The location is also ideal for exploring Cowbridge.

Just returned from this hotel after an amazing evening wedding party, the setting of the hotel, the decor, the staff, the food, the service was absolutely spot on! What a beautiful place, even lovelier at Christmas, plenty of local shops to browse in and ever so pretty with the High Street Christmas Lights. I would highly recommend it and hope... More

Yet again a lovely lunch during a shopping trip to cowbridge , as always a very good meal , good service & lovely atmosphere ( we liked the new decor) would recommend. During many visits we have tried most dishes on the menu & found them to be very tasty & good size portions.

Went here with my friend for lunch. As always the place was full and there was the added pressure of a wedding. However we were seated straight away as we had booked. There is limited choice but there would be something for everyone. I had a fisherman's pie it was 10.95 and came in a dish with salad-I think this... More

The Bear offers a good menu in a character setting. The Bear is an old coaching inn which retains a lot of character. Although I did not like the way the wood beams in the ceiling had been painted over. The service was good and the food on offer was good value for money. Good atmosphere and busy with local... More

We are now regulars at the Bear and visit every couple of weeks for a pub supper on a Saturday night. Full of history and character, the lounge has a high end yet cosy feel with a warm fire. Best meal is the piri piri chicken with sweet potato chips and a tortilla. The Smoky burger is also delicious with... More

Recently attended a friends wedding at the Bear on 11 November. What a brilliant day!! This is a beautiful quaint hotel full of character, the food was hot and tasty, the beds comfortable, and rooms spotless. But the jewel in the crown of the hotel is their wonderful staff!! Each and everyone were friendly and welcoming! During the wedding breakfast... More

We were guests at a wedding on Friday 11/11/16 and we stayed overnight. The venue was spectacular and the staff were totally unobtrusive as they would their way around the guests with the food and drinks. Carafes were filled as they emptied just as wine glasses were. The tables were cleared without any fuss and the service was definitely 5... More

Friendly staff, and really good food make this the hotel to stay in in Cowbridge. The age of the hotel means the stairs and locations of the bedrooms are quirky to get to, but a good adventure for the kids!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Bear has origins as far back as the 12th Century, but it's best known as the inn where they changed the horses on the mail run from Cardiff to Swansea. This famous Coaching Inn is steeped in history. Nowadays, this privately owned 3 star hotel is famed for its fine home-cooked food, friendly atmosphere and really good ale. During the 18th Century, Napoleon's troops were held in the 'Bear Pit' en route to London after a failed invasion at Fishguard! The Bear rests in the heart of the Vale of Glamorgan, surrounded by beautiful rural hills. The Brecon Beacons and the Welsh Valleys are close by, with breathtaking views. Some of the Valleys still have the mining houses visible as you drive through. The hotel is on the main high street of the historic town of Cowbridge. This chic market town boasts some fabulous boutique shops, lingering walks around the Roman wall and some of the most beautiful town-houses. ... more   less
