Really friendly and helpful staff. Bedrooms were comfortable and well appointed. The breakfast was excellent with a fine self service spread available. There was also the option of a take out breakfast for an early start before 0700 which was nice.

I stayed at the bear hotel twice in two weeks and was hugely impressed with everything from the warm and friendly welcome at check-in to the luxurious room and good food and bar service. Breakfast is plentiful with a good choice of hot food and cold pastries, cereals etc. Definitely worth considering when visiting the area.

Very friendly staff, lovely range of cakes, comfortable and homely, with a rare ambience! A place to retreat to. when it's cold outside and to bask in the sunshine under under a garden umbrella when it's warm. We would give it 5stars! Situated on thè high street, Cowbridge has an ancient history stemming from the 12th century. It's the perfect... More

I visited her with my family last week, we all had lunch, there was a varied menu, good prices and great food, would recommend. Lovely building full of character. I imagine it gets very busy so probably best to book. We sat in the bar area. We didn't stay in the hotel, just went as walk in customers.

Got a table straight away, table was a cosy romantic one for two. Food is outstanding selection of food even on a Sunday very impressed. My husband didn't fancy a roast dinner so he opted for the steak and he was very happy. You have to try the roast beef dinner👌. Excellent wine menu stocked a lot of different wines.... More

We stayed here over the weekend. The hotel is bursting with character and is very idyllic in its setting. The beer garden is wonderful and ever so pretty and can seat many. The staff were faultless...every single person was genuinely really pleasant and chatty. Our room was really cosy and clean. The food was delicious and prices good. I can't... More

Having a lazy day with my partner and just popped in ... Sat in the bar as restaurant was fully booked which made no difference to the service ... The staff were polite and attentive and the food was just amazing as was the presentation ... Try the chips ... The chicken burger and the pasta ...

Looking for alternative to the prem inn and found this. Cheaper midweek Wed/Thur when I booked. Excellent room. Free WiFi throughout hotel, bar and rooms. I think it is better than purple people even when you pay for premium WiFi. Liked the menu and the food was good. Two course plus pint for £20 or less. Good beer selection. Helpful staff.... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Bear has origins as far back as the 12th Century, but it's best known as the inn where they changed the horses on the mail run from Cardiff to Swansea. This famous Coaching Inn is steeped in history. Nowadays, this privately owned 3 star hotel is famed for its fine home-cooked food, friendly atmosphere and really good ale. During the 18th Century, Napoleon's troops were held in the 'Bear Pit' en route to London after a failed invasion at Fishguard! The Bear rests in the heart of the Vale of Glamorgan, surrounded by beautiful rural hills. The Brecon Beacons and the Welsh Valleys are close by, with breathtaking views. Some of the Valleys still have the mining houses visible as you drive through. The hotel is on the main high street of the historic town of Cowbridge. This chic market town boasts some fabulous boutique shops, lingering walks around the Roman wall and some of the most beautiful town-houses. ... more   less
