The hostel is basic but it's perfect to a short stay in nature and a total escape from the city. The kitchen and the common room are very comfy and a perfect spot to meet other people. And the staff is super friendly and very available. The kitchen is fully equipped. There are no wifi connection BUT there is a...

The youth hostel manager and her colleague were the best hosts you could ever imagine. Free (donations welcome) wifi on their satellite connections, fresh flowers on the table, soft lights at night, tea and coffee for a donation, clean rooms, free music night with the youth hostel manager and her friends playing folk music, together with the beautiful sandy bay...

So, first off, this is this isn't a 5 star hotel. I'll go through the negatives (for some!) first. The room had just a bunk with a curtain that comes out into a shared corridor. The annexe had one toilet and two sinks. There were some pegs to hang things, but storage space was very limited. There is only one...

Nothing special about the hostel, just being normal, but tidy and comfy. The thing makes this place so special is that astonishing beach, such a beautiful experience to enjoy this beach. If you're lucky enough, the sunset might be among very top of list in your whole life, life, seriously. I'll definitely come visit here again if I can.

You get what you expect with the SYHA experience. The location and the road is is stunning but the accommodation very basic when you get there. For "twin room" read curtained off cubby hole with bunk beds. Showers are in a different shed. But hey!, warm, dry, remote and incredibly relaxing.

One of those hidden gems. Formerly the village school. Converted to a SYHA hostel in the mid 20th century. Dormitory accommodation is in the annex (formerly the wardens accommodation). The hostel has seen various modernisation in recent years, but some areas are still rather dated – eg the annex and the toilet and shower facilities. Great location overlooking one of...

This is a small hostel in a stunning location, with good coastal walks nearby. There is a cosy lounge/eating area with large tables, a smaller one, some comfortable chairs and games and books. It's a nice room to chill out in. The managers are charming and friendly. We stayed in what we were told was a twin room - we...

It's a very small place, but that makes it so charming. It's one of my favourite Hostels. There is just one guestroom (you can separate the room by curtains), we got our own a two bed compartement. The kitchen andbthe livingroom is in the same room. One night we had schotish live music, it was great! And Achmelvich itself is...

Having stayed here a few times as a teenager I decided to take my girlfriend. We booked early to get the twin room and were delighted to discover it had a double-ish in it. Amenities

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Achmelvich Beach Youth Hostel is a traditional and remote rustic hostel situated just 300 metres from the legendary white sandy beach (listed in the Good Beach Guide). There are miles of unspoilt coastline here to explore, with many quiet secluded beaches to make your own. This former school building and cottage has been tastefully transformed into a 22-bed youth hostel. Rooms vary in size and include group accommodation, private rooms and one family room. There is also a small self-catering kitchen and spacious dining area for guests to use. Wi-Fi during your stay: We do our best to deliver a free Wi-Fi service but apologise that connectivity, particularly in our rural locations, can be intermittent due to the level of our current broadband provision along with high usage when the youth hostel is busy. Please be assured we are endeavouring to improve where we can. We thank you for your patience and understanding.
