A simple travelers gem. A post Brexit tour (Road Trip) of the UK by a couple of 40 somethings from South London, resulted in a one night stay at The Merchants House, prior to a morning sailing to Belfast. The Port is about a minutes drive away. Portpatrick is about a 15 minute drive and has a number of decent... More

A beautiful 1701 building and of course there floor creaks in one or two places (you would too at 300 years). The rooms are comfortable and well set up. There is a nice sitting/bar room with beer on tap and most spirit mixes available. The dining room is separate and tables are elegantly laid. We had fish and chips and... More

There are three practical reasons for choosing the Merchant's House. 1. It is very convenient for the Cairnryan ferries .2. It is very reasonably priced .3. It has a licensed restaurant. However staying there brings much more. First and foremost are the delightful owners who will guarantee a warm welcome (and a lot of laughs! Alan has missed a vocation... More

Thanks for at wonderful stay. We arrived at the B & B late and were in the door greeted by the sweet hosts Alan and Fiona. The hospitality was so welcoming and relaxed, and it felt like home, nice homemade food and room for a cosy chitchat later in the evening. We will certainly get past when we come to... More

Fiona, the owner I must say was a very lovely lady who we had a great chat with on wednesday night 27th july when we stayed before getting the morning ferry. we were shown to our family room number 4, which i must say we were disappointed with. on entering the room there was a strong stale smell of B.O... Your booking form arrived from booking.com along with request for discounted rate or breakfast at 0600, for which I would have to be in the kitchen by 0530. As we routinely offer packed breakfasts for any guests departing for early ferries, I declined on both counts immediately by e-mail, long before your arrival date. You and I both know that... More

We stayed here the night before catching a Ferry to Belfast, it's a stones throw from the ferry port and right on the high street facing the sea. Small and friendly, clean and inexpensive.
