The New Bath Hotel and Spa re-opened in late summer 2016 to once again be Derbyshire's premier boutique hotel. The bedrooms are bright and spacious and provide travellers with high levels of comfort and complimentary wifi. The hotel's Brasserie restaurant serves modern food using the best local produce. We have recently opened our new Artistry restaurant which offer a tasting menu. Whether it be a wedding, dining or just simply to sleep here, the New Bath Hotel has it all. We also have a fantastic outside pool which is fed by natural spa water, and is open to residents. Non residents can also use the pool for the day or use the pool on a membership basis. This outside pool is one of a very few within the UK, and should be seen to be appreciated and enjoyed.

Whilst the rooms are smallish, they have been recently refurbished and are pretty good, quiet. The restaurant is well worth a visit, very good food, there are not many places so book in advance! Great location, easy walking distance of Cromford and Matlock Bath, some nice walks to Matlock too. Well located for exploring the Peak District, Buxton & Chatsworth both a pleasant 30 min drive away.

Family room - looks tired and shower leaks. The shower glass missed the rubber seal at the bottom and the water flooded the bathroom. Reported to reception, easily fixed. Restaurant- fine dining for adults only not family friendly. No children menu. Had to order from adult menu and paid £20 for a small chicken breast Breakfast - expect a cold breakfast no hot breakfast served. Meatless breakfast except smoked salmon Service - Good service which brings the rating up

We went to stay at the new bath hotel in Matlock and were extremely disappointed. We checked in and went up to our room, which was clean enough but very small. The shower was crazy as when I stood up in the bath I was looking down on top of the shower head so anyone above average height would bang their head whenever they got in. The toilet was next to a window which when opened looked out on to a walkway which residents used so not exactly very private! There were a grand total of two members of staff working who were rushed off their feet and when we requested an ice bucket with two glasses to toast our anniversary we were still waiting an hour later. The breakfast was continental, fresh and plenty of it. I’m guessing the astronomical price was down to the fact that they have to maintain the big fresh water pool which they have which was very nice. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve stayed in worse, but the cost to stay was a complete rip off.

Response from Ian Callaghan, General Manager at New Bath Hotel and Spa
Responded 2 days ago
Dear Discover, Thanks for your review. The hotel is at it's busiest at the moment, but I apologise you had to wait one hour for your ice. All bathrooms with toilets have windows which are opaque, so there is no danger of anyone seeing guests use the toilet. If this was the case, I am sure I and the previous other General Managers would have heard about it by now. The building is 276 years old as mentioned several times in other reviews and is not a modern building. This adds to the charm of it all. We do apologise however, and I ask future guests to contact reception if they have any issues with their rooms. The prices are reflective of the time of the year and demand. We are competitive in line with our competitor hotels. The pool is a natural spa water, and just requires refilling every six weeks for cleaning. The pool is due to be cleaned again from August 2nd - 3rd August. Thanks for the feedback

The facilities and the breakout areas are very well thought out. Staff were friendly and helpful, sorted an issue with our booking straight away. The evening meal was up there with the best tasting food that I have ever had. Will definitely be visiting again.

The staff were very helpful but more staff needed to give a better service, food was very good quality, room was recently renovated, needed a fan. Too many dogs barking, old tired looking annexe accomodation building, needs renewing.

Dear pwalte313973, Thank you for the review. The Butlins holiday camp building was only built in the 1960's and whilst it divides opinion, the most important thing is that the room is to your satisfaction, which from your comments, this would appear to be the case. We have 54 rooms and don't have 54 fans, as they don't tend to return after use. Your specific room has a balcony too, as do all of the garden annex bedrooms. It is a dog friendly hotel, and unfortunately to coin a horrible phrase 'it is what it is'. We do make it clear on our website and other booking channels that we are. We are in a competitive market place and have to move with market conditions which dictate how we operate. The dog policy came into effect last year due to the competition and guest feedback. Staffing is always a challenge when there is a national hospitality recruitment crisis and a global pandemic, however, we are just looking to recruit for a Restaurant Manager which as I'm sure you can appreciate is not ideal being without one at the busiest time of year. Thanks for the review
