Need I say more... I booked it very late on Tuesday night, as a suprise anniversary treat for hubby and me. So glad I did. We stayed in the Mayfield, it was glorious, with the biggest, most comfortable bed ever. We enjoy good food, and after wondering along the river and sampling some of the beverages on offer, returned to... More

Despite only living an hour and a half away from the Derbyshire Peak District, we've neglected to explore this wonderful area. In a bid to put that right we booked into Hodgkinson's Hotel for a couple of nights and were delighted with our choice. Having expected Matlock Bath to be rather quaint and low key, we were astonished to find... More

Just spent two nights here. It's an absolute gem of a place...Victorian from top to bottom. If you like ultra-modern, this is not for you. If you like very well done Victoriana and all the comforts of that great age, then give it a go. Rooms have all you need, (incl free Wi-Fi), and are decorated in period. No lift... More

Perfect location for a mini-break to Matlock Bath. Warm welcome. We stayed in 'Callow' room which was so charming. We had a look around the cave which is very cool. Lovely breakfast with lots of choice. Evening meal was nice but only 1 vegetarian option so we were limited there! Very friendly, helpful staff.

Authentic Georgian/Victorian hotel with great attention to decor. Boasts its own cave! Beautifully decorated rooms some with four poster beds and roll top baths. Exceptionally good food sourced from local farms. Highly recommended. Well located in the heart of Matlock Bath. Local attractions easily accessible.

We received a warm welcome, and were very comfortable. It's a genuinely historical hotel, very well done up, with lots of Victorian character in the décor and furnishings. We ate in the restaurant, which was very good.

Quick visit to Matlock Bath and the good luck to get a special offer price on the Bretby Room in Hodgkinsons Hotel. The hosts were charming, making local recommendations and showing us the caverns behind the hotel. The room was very quaintly furnished and very clean and comfortable (decor is olde worlde and heavy, but room was still airy and... More

We have just spent a delightful two days at this hotel and couldn't find anything to find fault with at all. The owner and staff are very friendly and the breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The room was comfortable and roomy and very quaint. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.

The people here are very welcoming and the breakfast service could not have been better. Did not eat dinner here so cannot comment on that. The room we had was called Corque which was quite small and at the back of the hotel but very well appointed with lots of nice touches. The bed was a little small but manageable.... More
