Its hard to find a good and interesting mid range hotel in Derbyshire. Hodgkinsons is certainly an interesting find with an antique but comfortable feel. Our room was spacious and welcoming and the staff were very friendly and work hard to make the place a success. Matlock and Matlock Bath are rather odd places so you probably need to wonder... More

Booked the Hodgkinson's for a long weekend with my wife, we had a wonderful stay with Chris and Zoe who were the perfect hosts. This wonderful listed building had all the character we had hoped for, along with great staff and a first class breakfast I would highly recommend this hotel. The evening meal was superb. Next time we must... More

This delightful Victorian Hotel was a pleasure to stay in. Traditionally furnished in Victorian style but with all the modern amenities of today's era it made our weekend in Matlock Bath very memorable for all the right reasons. We ate in the Hotel restaurant on the Friday night. We had a great starter and brilliant main course each. The service... More

This Grade 11 listed building shines behind a somewhat different exterior, it was like walking through the wardrobe into Narnia !! Quirky, charming and warm, I could ramble on forever. What a joy to visit. Hosts and staff were attentive, informative and most of all friendly. Food was super, both dinner and breakfast. Dinner menu perused whilst having drinks in... More

We wanted to find somewhere for the family to get together in the middle of the country for a significant celebration, and found and decided on Hodgkinson's from Trip Advisor reviews. We had a wonderful time; the staff made us welcome and looked after us all very well and with lots of personal attention. It is a small, charming hotel... More

You could miss this place with its low key frontage on the main street. Luckily we had checked trip advisor reviews en route. The whole place was renovated in a style commensurate with a grade 2 listed building of its era. We stayed in room 3 on the first floor facing the street but it was very peaceful with no... More

Thanks for the wonderful review just to correct one point Princess Victoria is reportedly to have stayed at our friends hotel just up the hill and not with us. Although we are supposed to have a roman soldier guarding a jewel encrusted sword in the cave!!!!!!! Thanks again Chris & Zoe More

Booked a 1 night stay, but found this not for us , room cold dark and dismal. Thought it would be better after reading reviews but not the case. Breakfast average , restaurant options either 2 or 3 course. Googled restaurants in the area and found top quality very close by

Kevin Wow there are 3 adjectives we have never seen used to describe our rooms. We did check the heating in your room /on that floor and that is working; the lighting is also good and there are two large secondary glazed Georgian sash windows (November is never the sunniest month anyway) that overlook the river Derwent and the wooded... Although this hotel is on the Main Street in Matlock, you do t realise it's open to the public. You enter through an old door that looks locked... but then the experience begins. We can't say how much we love this place. It's very cosy, welcoming and the food is fantastic! When we arrived, we were taken to a lounge... More

We stumbled across this hotel by chance when looking through trip advisor in the hope of a late booking for the TVR Car Club meet at Chatsworth House... We were unlucky in getting a hotel closer to the venue (or lucky) because Hodgkinson's hotel was available and with a little bit of re-arranging bookings the hotel managed to accommodate us... More

Arrived for a weekend break had a warm welcome from the owners and their staff who were all very pleasant. Everywhere was very clean and full of character. The breakfast was included in the price and a brilliant selection. We noticed at the back of the hotel on the way up to our room there was a cave all lit... More
