Imagine Fawlty Towers.........now think of a hotel which is the complete opposite......you are now thinking of Hodgkinson's Hotel in Matlock Bath. We first went here for a short honeymoon in 2010 and this was our first visit since Chris and Zoe took over. I was delighted that very little has changed - very little needed to change. We came here... More

We spent a weekend in the Peak District and stayed at Hodgkinsons Hotel for the first time. Excellent location right in the centre and overloking the river. Very olde worldy and quaint, which made a very pleasant change from some of the colourless modern hotels we've stayed in before. The room was very spacious with a four-poster bed and the... More

Stayed one night and had a very comfortable room. Shower was a bit on the small side but ok. Loved the furnishings and decor which were sympathetic to the age of the building. We ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent. Our gluten free needs were well catered for.

This hotel manages to retain many of it's original features dating back to Victorian times. The room we stayed in had a view over the river and was spacious and exceedingly comfortable. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly and made us feel welcome from first setting foot in the hotel. The breakfast was outstanding, served piping... More

We stayed for 2 nights over a weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We stayed in the Bretby room a double with en-suite shower, the room is situated on first floor with double aspect views across the high street and river but the room was very quiet. The room also had fresh tea leaves and Fresh coffee as well as... More

We stayed for two nights in early July. A central location in a time capsule. Elegant stylish furniture and decor. Great individual rooms. Just like the Matlock area itself you require a degree of fitness as there are no lifts but with caves and gardens in the hillside its just a hotel that amazes you literally around every corner. The... More

Very enjoyable 4 night stay! Made most welcome by the owners and the staff. Room and its facilities were excellent. Lovely Grade II listed building. Dining in the restaurant both for breakfast's and evening meals, I can only say was a very pleasant experience. The food was very well prepared and presented. If I am able to return to the... More

We stayed for two nights at this hotel and were greeted by a lovely welcome. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, historic décor which felt cozy but not outdated. Great sized room, lovely features, the homemade biscuits were a lovely touch. The breakfast was also delicious, with a great choice of food. Really, really impressed with the hotel and we’ll definitely be... More

A nice old hotel, friendly welcome at reception, lots of old memorabilia through out the hotel, ask to see the caves out the back. Rooms comfortable but old, but that is part of the charm. A couple of small points shower very cosy and parking up a steep hill for 5 places, but a pass is supplied for a car... More
