Just spent tbe weekend at this lovely hotel for our wedding anniversary. Zoe and Chris are running an Oasis in the middle of a very busy tourist spot. Its lke stepping back in time with the wonderful decor. The food is amazing. The best, by far, than anywhere else we have ever stayed. This hotel even has its own cave at the rear! Not many hotels can say that! We had a wonderful time, and will definately be back.

Stayed here for a two night break. Fabulous hotel, in a great location and very friendly and welcoming owners, Zoe and Chris. Due to current restrictions we were unable to use all the facilities eg restaurant, other than for breakfast. Breakfast however, was delicious. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

Room had an abundant choice of tea/coffee facilities and a good set of toiletries. Charming interior with framed historical documents relating to the hotel and local area. Small touches such as board games, guestbook and music in the lobby were appreciated. Helpful host who served a delicious breakfast. Altogether an escapist’s dream in a great location.

We recently stayed for one night with dinner and simply could not fault anyting. The room was very cosy, there was even a hot water bottle (it was February!) The lounge was really cosy with an open fire and the food was amazing. A very imaginative menu, particularly good for vegetarians and absolutely delicious. The hosts were extremely welcoming. We would definitely stay here again if in the area.

We have lived in the area for so long and never got around to eating at Hodgkinsons until this evening. What fools we’ve been! Our party of four were the only diners tonight but we felt perfectly comfortable and welcome. The lounge is cosy with a fire and William Morris wallpaper. The dining room is small and intimate with starched table linen. The service is pleasant and friendly, the food excellently cooked. The Amaretto parfait with peaches was heavenly. The port sauce with the steak was very well received. We had a lovely relaxed meal. Then I asked if we could see the caves. A most obliging gent guided us to the lead mines behind the hotel. Because of recent heavy rain, we couldn’t go all the way into the system but they were fascinating. We had a delightful evening and will certainly return. Many thanks to the Hodgkinsons staff.
