We visited here on our drive from Celje to Novo Mesto. This castle is so unique to Slovenia and beautiful with access across old wooden bridges, the towered fortified walls seem to float over the water. Excellent restorations from its WW 11 turmoil while preserving its 13th-15th C heritage.
I very much enjoyed my two night stay at Hotel Otocec. My room was large, clean and quiet. The castle and the grounds really transport you to another time and since the weather was great we enjoyed all the castle had to offer, including drinks on the patio, walks through the woods to the golf course, and massages at Hotel Sport. The two dinners in the hotel restaurant were the best in our 11 days in Slovenia. Highly recommend staying here for a unique castle experience.
Castle is closed during the main season. Even picturesque yard in the middle of the building. They don't even offer some drinks or ice cream. You can walk around swim in Krka and admire park or Krka River.
This was so much fun. It was a real treat to stay in an actual castle. Really unique experience! We had a Junior suite which was beautiful. Well appointed and so comfortable. I slept like a baby! The castle has a really interesting history and you feel like you are a part of it even though it is modern times. The employees were really friendly and helped us with things to do in the area. We only stayed one night but would have liked to stay longer. Really cool castle in a great spot!
We went there with bike from Novo mesto. The surrounding of the castle is dirty and covered with human feces. Don't go there or you will step into smelly mines. It is really sad that such nice place turned into toilet. There are also many anniying beggers. Unfortunately, nobody cares about the situation and lively photos in the gallery hete are just memiry from the past. Avoid!!!!
We havent stay overnight, just were there on a drink. From outside, You would say "Horrible....", but when You enter, that is just another story... Old , but cozy place....surrounded with river Krka , on a small island...
We stayed for 1 night. The room was beautifully decorated and the view from the window to the castle garden was lovely! We ordered some sandwiches to have a picnic in the castle grounds for lunch and the staff were very helpful and obliging in preparing it for us and also provided us drinking glasses to bring out. We also had dinner in the castle restaurant that night. Service was impeccable and we enjoyed the beef tartare very much. There is also a sport hotel with a swimming pool and sauna facility just down the street and the staff can send you there for a soak. The only reason for the 4 stars rating is the jacuzzi tub in the room was not very clean. Also, there was a loud generator sound that woke me up a few times during the night. I’m not sure what it was? Other than that, we had an amazing stay and would recommend this to anyone looking for a castle stay but complete with modern facilities!…
From the moment you enter the property, you are transported to a simpler time centuries ago. The small staff was very kind and helpful. Upon checkin, we asked for a room with a walk-in shower and were upgraded to an enormous suite complete with an office, dining room table and living room. Ask for Room 10. It was tremendous and impeccably clean. Breakfast each morning was delightful, with many items to choose from (including Slovenian potica - hooray!) along with hot made-to-order items. Be careful when ordering American-type food. One morning, my husband ordered French toast and receive, well, toast. The next morning, he ordered pancakes and received crepes. This didn't bother us - it was part of the experience. We found humor in it. The grounds are beautiful. You can bike on the nearby trails. After driving around Austria and Slovenia for 12 days, this was a welcome respite.…
Just perfect establishment for small excursion. Food is very good prepared, tasting menu just 72 euros and sweets are so fresh and delicious. Service is very good. But wood, and the river, and the birds... summer is right time to go there...
