I very much enjoyed my two night stay at Hotel Otocec. My room was large, clean and quiet. The castle and the grounds really transport you to another time and since the weather was great we enjoyed all the castle had to offer, including drinks on the patio, walks through the woods to the golf course, and massages at Hotel Sport. The two dinners in the hotel restaurant were the best in our 11 days in Slovenia. Highly recommend staying here for a unique castle experience.

I booked two days for my wife's 60th birthday. The restored castle sits on a lovely island in the middle of a river. It was very special -- fabulous setting, service and restaurant. We hope to return one day.

We went there with bike from Novo mesto. The surrounding of the castle is dirty and covered with human feces. Don't go there or you will step into smelly mines. It is really sad that such nice place turned into toilet. There are also many anniying beggers. Unfortunately, nobody cares about the situation and lively photos in the gallery hete are just memiry from the past.

Avoid!!!!

Castle is closed during the main season. Even picturesque yard in the middle of the building. They don't even offer some drinks or ice cream. You can walk around swim in Krka and admire park or Krka River.

This was so much fun. It was a real treat to stay in an actual castle. Really unique experience! We had a Junior suite which was beautiful. Well appointed and so comfortable. I slept like a baby! The castle has a really interesting history and you feel like you are a part of it even though it is modern times. The employees were really friendly and helped us with things to do in the area. We only stayed one night but would have liked to stay longer. Really cool castle in a great spot!

We had eaten a tremendous meal here before but never stayed overnight. The afternoon arrival was just as expected and met us with a tranquil setting with beautiful views over the river everywhere we looked. However, when we were greeted at the front desk we were abruptly told we could not eat in the dining room due to a private event. We were okay with this but wondered about the brisk delivery. We were actually told twice in 5 min. and we assured the receptionist it was not a problem. We had already booked dinner at a lovely location just down the road. When we returned to our room at 9 pm, we were met with not 1 but 2 events at the hotel, thus had to park in overflow parking. When we got to the room, we had to turn the TV up to the highest possible volume and could barely hear it due to the band playing below us. The floor actually vibrated when I walked from the bed to the bathroom. It was like being in the room with the band without the good time! We called the front desk and asked when would the band stop? and was told midnight, in 2 hours. We actually considered driving home since we could be home before the band stopped playing in 2 hours. UGH! Not tranquil! Now I know why they made us prepay! Ask some questions before staying and even upon check-in.
Breakfast was okay, not exceptional.. The morning front desk girl was nice enough.
Slovenia staff does not quite understand the concept of good customer service. My dream of staying in a castle was overshadowed by the ill-prepared staff and inconsideration of the party below us. I would only recommend eating there but never would I stay here again.

The bath room was elegant. The bed was comfy. Definitely NOT worth the $300 we paid for the night.

The hotel staff had several options to keep our bad feelings from forming. 1) prior notice of the noise, 2) invite us to the party, 3) comp drinks at the bar or breakfast, 4) given a room away from the band room.

Who would have thought of so much noise going on the first weekend in Oct.? Not these weary American travelers…

We stayed for one night as part of a road trip around Slovenia and croatia. Although the rooms are a little expensive we were not disappointed in any way by this beautiful place. Both the castle and the grounds are extremely picturesque and were beautiful in the autumn leaves. There are some nice walks in the surrounding areas.
We used the Spa at the sport hotel for which access is free and it’s within walking distance of only a few minutes. The spa was a little basic but nice enough for an afternoon of relaxation.
We had the tasting menu in the restaurant which I would thoroughly recommend. Each course was beautifully presented and we left feeling extremely satiated!
The service was excellent and all staff were highly attentive, friendly and approachable.
Well worth a trip whilst in Slovenia!

Our stay in Hotel Otocec Castle was an absolutely unique and memorable experience. We went there for a short two nights break. The location is great (only 50 minutes on a highway from Zagreb) and very close to picturesque Slovenian villages. If you want to stay in a nice, quite and elegant place - this is a perfect location. Hotel surrounded by small pond and nice cute park -so you can have your romantic walks and enjoy the nature.
We are a young couple who really enjoy nature and local food-so this place met all our expectations, and this is a list of our activities during the stay: 1) a 5 km walk through the local villages and nice forest to a thermal resort, you will see gorgeous nature of this region and hear the birds singing 2) or you can take a bicycle and go to Vovko which is very pleasant 1 hour ride (one way) and enjoy the simple local food at this place 3)adventure park at the sport hotel - a very cool thing to do and can be really challenging sometimes.
Now about the hotel, its a gorgeous 13th century castle after a very recent renovation,
its very small (so the service is very good and personal) and has quite a nice decor. We stayed at one of their suites -which has one bedroom and one living room of some kind, the room was nice, however for the price we paid it has some luck of basic amenities: 1) there are no slippers 2) there are only 2 pillows in a bed and 2 small blankets -which is definitely not up to the luxury standards. 3) no hair conditioner in a bathroom. If they can fixed that-definetly it will bring the comfort of stay to another level.
The restaurant at the hotel is very nice, and their chef doing a good job, we really enjoy most of our meals and loved the local touch on the menu. Also, they have very good selection of wines which you can enjoy at their terrace.
The breakfast was a decent quality and the staff were very accommodating and polite.
We were happy with the service and attention to details, people who work there are doing a great job.
Check in/check out was very efficient, welcome and birthday cake were absolutely lovely.
Overall great experience, will definitely recommend this place.
