All the rooms are on the first floor and have fantastic views over the Douro. Our room was adequate and had a spacious balcony. Everything worked adequately, but the room was very much in need of decoration and modernisation. The restaurant was somewhat dated and dull, too, but the food was adequate and very reasonably priced. The room itself was...

This hotel is perfect to have a break while visiting Miranda. It offered us a nice meal with fantastic views to the Douro (Duero in Spanish) Canyon. This is the second time we enjoy lunch here. It is worth to try it. Besides the staff is very pleasant. Remember the meals size is very generous (it was a pity not...

The room was spacious and had a wonderful view of the River Douro. The staff were helpful and efficient. The hotel is showing signs of its age. One snag was that most parking was at the rear of the hotel which was 3 floors below the reception. The list only ran to 2 floors below reception and a steep exterior...

Pleasant staff, receptionist ran upstairs with our suitcases and didn't wait for a tip. It seems an old, dated hotel that could do with a re-furbishment. Our room was very gloomy because of poor lighting. We didn't find the bed very comfortable. We had a balcony with beautiful views of the Douro Valley and the Miranda dam. Breakfast next morning...

I stayed here perhaps 15 to 20 years ago when it was a state run pousada and brought my wife back for a two night visit. I reviewed the restaurant separately, q.v. so this is only the hotel function. Sad to say, current management has been unable to entirely maintain the elegance and is living on borrowed time. The best...

Nestled on the cliff top above the River Douro on the border between Portugal and Spain this town and this hotel is a magic place for a couple of days relaxation. The hotel is very traditional the rooms of adequate size and the bathrooms functional and clean. The room had its own private balcony overlooking the river and the hotel's...

At the northern east tip of Portugal on top of river Douro facing Spain, there is a special type of familiar hotel common in Portugal, the 'estalagem'. Here it is called Hotel Parador Santa Caterina but we call it Estalagem Santa Catarina. This is a very nice building that is turned to the amazing landscape of Trás-os-Montes. The rooms are...

This was an old pousada but now with private management. They kept the good charming architecture and design (that is expensive maintenance) and they try to modernize with A/C Wifi and TV (some need maintenance). The view over the Douro is appalling. Food is very good in big portions we were told to share the servings in order not to...

The Estalagem Santa Caterina is a comfortable, olde worlde, two-storey hotel overlooking the River Douro and the Spanish hills. There’s ample free parking, the views are splendid, the rooms are spacious and they come with the usual mod-cons – central heating, air conditioning, mini-bar, safe and TV. Our suite – main bedroom, second bedroom/lounge, bathroom and patio – was spotless...
