Eplet is a small family run guesthouse at the head of Sognefjord, Western Norway. We focus on a warm, friendly atmosphere and a relaxing and fun experience rather than luxurious facilities - there are enough fancy hotels around. We have a cosy living room with a library, jazz music and oil lamp in the evenings. There are two well-equipped kitchens for you to use and in our garden you can pick your own herbs and vegetables (in return for a bit of weeding!) We have hammocks in the garden, a nine-hole crocket golf course and a slack line. In the evenings you can join us to bottle feed the lambs. In the reception you can buy fresh strawberries picked at Eplet the same morning, and if you are lucky we may have some spare eggs from our chickens. Does it sound like a small paradise? Welcome.

Detailed Reviews
If you like places were you help yourself with food and are looking for a special place. Visit Eple! The view from the garden over Sognefjorden is fantastic.
Eplet is a family driven hostel with rooms and shared bathroom and kitchen. It has a garden with hammocks, lambs and rabbits. Yes it’s true! The apple trees is just outside the window and when we arrived in mid July fresh raspberry were sold in the small reception shop every morning. The guesthouse has a clean kitchen and cozy living room. Of course this is a place for people who likes to mingle around and share local experiences over a bear or coffees. This summer a lot of Norwegian families with children.
There is no restaurants or grocery shop in Solvorn. We brought our own food from Sogndal (20 min drive). It was a good system in the fridge and shelves - each room their own place marked with room symbol. The small reception sells basic groceries and of course home made juices and jam.
Solvorn has a nice beach. We were there for to nights, should have stayed longer.

Myself and my partner stayed 5 nights in a double room at Eplet at the end of August and had a brilliant time. We'd originally been planning to come in 2020 but of course had to cancel due to Covid, so we were excited to finally make the trip. Trond and Agnethe are amazing hosts, offering lots of helpful advice about where to visit/activities to do. There is a very friendly atmosphere in the place.
The facilities are good quality, with a large kitchen, though this can of course still get a bit busy with a lot of guests staying - it's a good idea to have dinner slightly earlier than everyone else to beat the rush! There is plenty of food storage space in cupboards and the fridge; each room has a shelf to itself. With regards to buying food, the shop has some supplies like pasta, sauce, cheese, bread and butter, but it's a good idea to come with at least enough supplies for your first dinner, lunch and breakfast. You can then make a trip to the large supermarket in Hafslo to get more supplies. We enjoyed relaxing in the dining/sitting room with our books, sat in front of the window with a view to the fjord.
Make sure to read the Eplet website if travelling by public transport as it provides detailed instructions for how to get there - we arrived by ferry into Sogndal, and took a taxi from there to Solvorn as the late bus doesn't run on a Saturday or Sunday. The taxis are reasonably priced, it was £50 in total for the journey. Buses in the area are good - a week's ticket on the Skyss Ticket app is very affordable - but we did miss one connection on our way to Leikanger so had to get a second taxi. Bear in mind that there are often only two or so buses on a route per day, so you have to work around the schedules. Agnethe was kind enough to let us join her trip to the shop one day which saved us getting the bus to Hafslo.
In terms of activities while staying at Eplet, our highlights included visiting the Urnes stave church, looking out for the seal (which we named Sven the seal) in the bay, kayaking in the fjord (we hired them from Villa Solvorn), and a trip to Nigardsbreen glacier by bus (if you tell the bus driver you are going to the glacier, the connecting bus waits for you at Gaupne). We combined this with a swim at the Lustrabadet pool in Gaupne, which is highly recommended. Again, Trond and Agnethe provide helpful advice on what to do and which transport to get.
All in all a wonderful time, which we would thoroughly recommend to anyone looking to visit the area.

Wonderful late April stay with a view that was amazing and convenient point for a ferry across to take mountain bikes available for rent at Eplet. or a hike. Our host Agnethe & Trond Henrik were welcoming and provided wonderful information on trails to follow, sites to see and more. Eplet is a beautiful place to retreat and recharge. Our rooms were comfortable and the views amazing. Only a 20 minute drive from Songdal by bus or car.

We spent two nights at Eplet during our fjord journey. It was lovely. It's not fancy but has everything you need. And the views..... just stunning! We had a room in the guesthouse and shared a bath with a family of five - that required a little planning but it was fine. They have bikes to rent which we did and had a lovely day. We took the ferry across the fjord with the bikes, rode along the fjord, stopped and hiked at a beautiful waterfall, and had the most delicious waffles with strawberry sauce at a lovely cafe next to the waterfall. We also went to the Urnes Stave church before boarding the ferry back to Solvorn. It was a wonderful day.
Eplet sells delicious juices - we tried several. Our favorites were the apple and the apple and pear juices. Really tasty.
Eplet is also conveniently located near Molden Mountain which is a great hike to a spectacular view of the fjord.
Highly recommend a stop at Solvorn and a stay at Eplet.

The location of the Eplet farm is perfect. There is a beautiful view of the fjord. There are not too many people because the number of rooms is limited. There's a small campsite, a dozen pitches, at most. The farmer is charming and helpful. You can buy (depending on the season) farm produce. Some vegetables and herbs can be taken from the garden, provided you weed a little. And everything is very clean. Prices are reasonable.

We walked past here and wished we had stayed. Really lovely guy owns the place. They sell the best strawberries I have ever tasted, picked from his garden daily. The views were beautiful and it is a short walk to the shore of the fjord for photos

Originally planned to stay one night tenting at Eplet with the family. After a couple of days travelling around in the area we went back for four more nights of tenting.
Amazing view of the fjord that gives you the ultimate relax and vacation mode. Very friendly and nice staff that took well care of their guests. Clean toilets/shower and kitchen to prepare food.
Fantastic for the five year old to play around, watch the rabbits, sheeps, cuddle with the cat and of course drink a lot of good Apple juice. My favorite was the rasperry juice!
We will for sure go back to this little pearl in beautiful Solvorn!

Beautiful setting, stayed in a tent near the apple orchard with a view on the fjord. Very friendly people, very calm surroundings but the 2 adopted lambs. Nice apple juice to buy and lots of activities in the neighbourhood. Clean kitchen and badroom + the possibility to sit inside during rain. Would definitely recommend it.

The Bed and Apple is by far the most amazing "hostel" I have ever stayed in. Trond Henrik the host, sleeps in his office during the summer and opens his house to guests. You have full use of his excellent kitchen, dining room, library, hammocks, music system and balconies with the best Fjord view in Norway. To top this he lives on an orchard and you may eat any fruit you pick; raspberries, apples, cherries.
As well as the scenery being amazing, week there is not enough to do even half of the activities Trond offers to help organise. There is kayaking, hiking, glacier walks, and best of all, Trond will lend you state-of-the-art mountain bikes for free so you can go on local tours. Solvorn is tiny, secluded and un-touristy, yet has a well-stocked shop and is close to Sogndal, the administrative centre for the district, which is easily accessed by bus; and from where you can get to Oslo or Bergen very easily.
On our first day you could take the ferry to Urnes and bike to Fiegemfossen, a very tall and impressive waterfall (250m freefall). In Urnes there is a stave church, built in the 11th Century, one of 5 UNESCO protected sites in Norway. Well worth visiting. The second day hike the 1100m Molden mountain; the view from the top was incredible, you could see all the way down the Fjord to the Jotumhemimen mountains beyond! The third day a glacier hike at Nigersbreen (the glacier bus stops at the end of the drive to the hostel!), a fantastic experience. Solvorn is on Route 55, voted the most scenic ountain road in Norway, and the one with the highest pass in Europe
I cannot recommend the "Bed and Apple" highly enough. Very reasonable weekly rates, visit [---] for the direct website.

Back for the umpteenth time, to this little wonderland. This time its early in the season and few people. We're sharing the magnificent view and the peace it gives, only with the friendly owners and their cat.
In summer time it is a busier heaven, with hikers, travelling families and road-triping couples who make a community in the garden and the friendly living room: someone's sitting on the terrace with a book, some are picking some kale and carrots from the veggie garden, some kids are trying to feed the lamb on the other side of the fence.
I could have my whole holiday just here!
