Spent 5 days in the dorm at Eplet in September, after the summer rush. Beautiful location. Very relaxing with great views across the charming town below and the fjord. Large well equipped kitchens [self caterers may wish to stock up before arriving], large comfortable living room overlooking the apple orchard. Friendly, helpful staff. Website is very informative. Be advised if visiting the Urnes church across the fjord [recommended] you have to back onto the small ferry and the road running along the fjord from the church can be one very narrow lane- interesting when meeting a large truck coming the other way.
The hostel is set in a beautiful location, with enough activities to fill a week long stay ( kayaking the fjords, cycling scenic routes, hiking , glacier ) It is very clean and organized and the hosts were extremely helpful and welcoming. You will leave this place feeling calmer. I will be recommending to my friends and family.
An amazing three-night stay at Eplet. Many travellers stay longer than this and I wish I could have stayed for a few more nights. The setting is beautiful and there are loads of family-friendly day trips - glacier walks, hikes, mountain biking, kayaking (I saw sea lions!) - within easy reach of the hostel, which offers well-serviced mountain bikes to guests and non-guests. Eplet itself has a wonderful atmosphere and seems to attract very friendly families and groups. It has a lovely garden, and guests are able to pick and eat the organic fruit and vegetables. One of the best hostels I have ever stayed in - I hope to come back. I stayed in a dorm room and the beds were comfy, great showers, and everything was spotlessly clean. Kitchen is well-stocked and there is a terrace and tables set outside. They have a good supply of mountain bikes which are in good condition, one of which I used for a day trip. The indoor living room is an attractive place to crash if the weather is bad. They also have good laundry facilities. The hostel is located in a beautiful, quiet little village (Solvorn) on the Lusterfjord, tucked between two hills, and with Norway’s oldest stave church on the other side of the fjord, accessible by ferry. Arriving by car is probably best in terms of flexibility, but there are a number of buses to/from Sogndal, which is a nearby town that can be reached on a direct bus or ferry journey from Bergen (approx 5 hours).…
Spent 3 nights here in varied weather conditions. The lounge and great kitchens make bad weather totally tolerable. Friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Plenty to occupy you for 3 days/4 nights - Urnes church and waterfall, kayaking on the fjord (seal kayak) and up on the glacier reservoir (ice troll), glacier hikes and plenty of general hikes with spectacular views. Recommended.
We absolutely loved our stay at Eplet. And Solvorn was an outstanding, tranquil, out-of-the-way place to spend a few days. When we wanted to kick back and enjoy the solitude, we could. When we wanted an adventure, we could have that too. One day was spent biking along the road across the fjord to a spectacular waterfall. The other day was spent kayaking. We also did some hiking and general exploring of the area. Would, and will, go back! If you don't mind the small rooms and a shared bathroom, this is definitely the place for you!
