Welcome to untouched countryside. The history: Once upon a time there was a King, who fleeing for his life from his home town, was in search of a place where he could fulfill his passion for hunting. It was the end of the eighteenth century and the King was King Ferdinand III of Borbone. Fleeing from Naples he chose to settle in Palermo and while looking for a place to build his own hunting lodge, he came across the monumental and impressive Busumbra Rock and was ecstatic. It was by his wish that 30km south of Palermo, at the foot of the Busambra Rock, that an imposing royal lodge was built ...

We cannot say enough wonderful things about Masseria Rossella and the staff. We live in Colorado and my fiancé has family in Sicily who live close to Masseria Rossella. We decided we wanted to be married in Sicily near the family and in November of 2021 we made the journey to try to find a location for our wedding ceremony to our liking. We visited three other places in the area, and knew from the moment we entered the property that Masseria Rossella was exactly what we were looking for. The manor and grounds were closed at the time but we were able to meet with the manager, Maurizio. From the first time we met with him up until our wedding ceremony and stay had ended, Maurizio was incredibly helpful, knowledgable, friendly, patient, proactive, and very prompt with his responses. Our entire wedding ceremony was incredibly beautiful and very well organized by Maurizio and his staff. He was attentive to every single detail; even things I did not think about. All of the Masseria Rossella staff were so friendly and attentive to our needs as well as the needs of our wedding guests. Rosemary in the restaurant, and Sara, Emilia and Lara in housekeeping were all absolutely incredible. The food was wonderful at every meal, including our wedding dinner. Sara was so sweet and did our laundry and very neatly packed up my wedding gown without me even asking her to do so! The staff and their level of service were truly beyond comparison.

Very very beautiful and peaceful place to stay. friendly staff, home-made breakfast, the view, oh the view, the nature, the pool, the freshness of cool crisp air, the Sicilian land, the smell of flowers and woods. Unfortunately for us was the drive so exhausting, it's only 30 km away from Palermo, but the path (I wouldn't call it a street) stretch the ride to 90 min almost (from the airport, driving at night). That's why we stayed only one night and the staff were so kind to refund our non-refundable stay.
I would suggest it for someone who would really not mind long rides, someone coming for the second time to Sicily, someone who would like to just relax in the place, unlike us we couldn't wait to explore this beautiful island and wasting 2 h/day would be such a pity.

WAY OFF TH GRID!!! NO (few) AMENITIES!!! Except a bidet, and breakfast 8AM and dinner 8PM (25 Euro's)... Built in 1812 Masseria Rossella is an old hunting camp which is now a working dairy farm. It is like stepping back in time. The karaf on your dinner table is filled from a cask with local earthy dry purple wine reeking of the local spices and plants. The aromatic olive oil comes from the farms many trees, and the meals are continuous servings of delicious home cooked traditional food with portions one dares not finish. The wait staff actually changes uniforms before dinner as they go from being household help to cooks and waiters. After coffee and Sambuca around 10PM all that is left to do is.....go to bed because there is nothing else to do....which is OK because after a day of wandering an island that has not one flat area sleep comes easy...
The rooms would remind you of a monks quarters.... Clean with a bottle of still water. The courtyard, surrounded by the stone walls of the house and kitchen, and connecting rooms with a huge mulberry tree in the middle is a wonderful place to sit and reflect on the days events. There is a chapel built into the walls of the compound and three living rooms one with a shared TV.

It is a magical place that I did not expect when I booked it. As I usually say in reviews..."If you are looking for room service go to the Hilton" THIS IS A VERY SPECIAL PLACE for a certain type of traveler. I could not imagine taking young children here. That being said, our relatives will be going to the area over the coming generations and I wonder if any of them will find Masseria Rossella which I imagine will be here for another two centuries

This is situated south of Palermo in the most beautiful countryside, ideal for exploring on foot, bike or to go sightseeing to places such as MontReale, the northern or southern coast of west Sicily etc. It is an old building set on four sides of a grassy garden area with huge shade-giving trees. The rooms in a block are well furnished and the two sitting rooms in the main part of the house are comfortable and tastefully furnished with antiques. There is a splendid swimming pool set in the huge garden, with fields all around the estate edged with wild flowers. The dining areas are wonderful, and the food is superb, with real regional cooking and wine by the carafe included. All the staff are so helpful, Maria in the kitchen, Basil who serves and Francesca who organises everything (and speaks very good French too) so that one gets really personal service and advice.
I can't recommend this too highly.

I stayed at the Masseria Rossella for a weekend in July with friends. The countryside provides a welcomed relief from the stifling heat of the city of Palermo.

The Masseria has about 11 rooms set around a beautiful courtyard and a swimming pool around the back of the premises.

Upon arrival, the owners welcomed us in the courtyard. In fact, the staff couldn't do enough to accommodate us (we were a party of 15). They baked a special cake for my Birthday at short notice and when one of my guests couldn't eat anything from the regular menu options, the chef provided a great alternative.

Most of the rooms around the courtyard are small, but perfectly formed. The rooms in the main house are slightly bigger and all have ensuite bathrooms. Decoration is simple and rustic.

There's no air-conditioning, but it's not required as the walls are incredibly thick which helps keep the rooms cool in the Summer and warm in the Winter.

Breakfast was made up of cereals, yoghurt, breads and other healthy options. I could have done with eggs and bacon, but they weren't available. However, had we asked prior to our arrival, I honestly believe they would have provided it.

They make their own olive oil which is available for sale. It has a very strong robust flavour and is almost green in colour.

The owners, husband, wife and son, were truly magnificent. They live on the premises and are always available, though we turned to the staff for most of the things we needed. They helped with directions, recommended places to visit and generally made sure we were comfortable.

I would definitely stay there again if I find myself in Palermo.

Lovely agriturismo, a little bit difficult to find but once you find it it’s difficult to forget. Lovely setting well kept.. rooms are spacious and clean and food is a wow! ( although sometimes it needs a little change in presentation) but otherwise it’s a wow! Sicilian cuisine at its best... loved it and again in my pipeline to return there someday. Keep it up all the staff... you’re so lovely and well-mannered!

This was our last stay after two weeks of wandering around the island and it was perfect! Eventhough it was an adventure to find it in the middle of the night :). We loved the peace and quietness! Just what we needed at that time. The room was stylishly decorated. The whole building is a true wonder. So beautifull. The surrounding is breathtaking. We dined there every evening and have enjoyed the food a lot, and be sure of that ... you're not hungry afterwards. The breakfast was ok, but not to compare with dinner. The staff is really friendly and helpfull. We're really happy that we spent our last days at this amazing and magical place!

We visited this Masseria in August. Albeit a bit tricky to find without some prior work on the map, we were pleasantly surprised by the features of this place. It has an historic background and the Masseria is very well maintained. We spent the morning in the swimming pool relaxing and sunbathing, then we had our lunch at 1.30 pm. Food and was delicious accompanied by good wine and a nap in the courtyard under the trees was absolutely needed to recover from so much good food (and lots of it!) and nice wine.
One minor comment about insects/leaf in the pool. Perhaps it is worth considering a better pump/filters to help re-circulation ad cleaning of the pool water. there were few in the pool. otherwise all excellent. Staff very friendly.

Responded Oct 25, 2016
Dear Sir, Thank you for your compliments about our agriturismo and our staff. Our manager Maurizio in fact due to some insects typical of the country side, constantly cleans the pool to make it clean and usable for all guests. Thank you and hope to meet again soon. Good day.

We came for 3 days and stayed a week! We echo the favourable comments of other guests. A super place to unwind, charming staff only too willing to help. Away from the big tourist attractions, the masseria is ideally located to enable guests to discover Sicilian villages and, of course, Sicilian people in their own environment , starting with the Arbërëshi community of Piana degli Albanesi. And when you just want to have a day off tourism, you feel as if you're a house guest in a country estate, when the owner's gone out and left you to yourself for the day!

Masseria Rosella is a two century old coutry house, built by a prince. He certainly choose the right spot for his palace like farm house, because the surrounding landscape is beautiful. We were welcomed very cordially, the rooms were good and quiet and the meals were tasteful. The atmosphere gave us an impression of paradise.
