Well where to start, Lake Como is an absolute must, the most beautiful place I have ever been to. The views, the weather, how clean it is, you can't go far wrong. We stayed at Hotel Britannia Excelsior, if you can afford to upgrade your room to a superior suite with lake view and balcony you are so much better off, we had an amazing view and could clearly see Bellagio over the lake, we also had a great view of the floating deck. The room was clean and plenty big enough, if a little dated but you're staying in a 5 star resort which more than makes up for that. This is a very big and busy hotel and can sometimes be a bit like a cattle market at reception, breakfast, evening meal. If you can afford to upgrade from your normal all inclusive, would suggest go platinum if you are into a la carte and fine dining rather than the cattle market. It's very confusing at first but if you upgrade this gives you access to 6 restaurants in total between Hotel Britannia Excelsior, Batzoni and The Lido. If you are platinum you can book yourself in to a different restaurant each night through reception. Fabulous food at the Batzoni and The Lido. There is also a restaurant at the floating deck which is part of Hotel Britannia Excelsior. You are also entitled to use all the bars at the above places but again if you are platinum all inclusive, I think you can get cocktails as part of this rather than just the statutory brand wine and beer. The best place to be for drinks is the floating deck and or the batzoni. The batzoni is about a mile walk to the right out of the hotel but there is a shuttle bus at certain times that can take you back and forth. The lido is 2 minute walk to the left out of the hotel. The place to be in the daytime if the weather is fab is the floating deck, such beautiful views, fab pool, gets a little busy but otherwise fabulous with alcohol and coffee, if the machine is working. The deck can get a bit rocky from time to time if a boat is going past but you don't notice it after a while. They call it an infinity pool, it actually isn't so not sure why it is called that. There are plenty of sunbeds and as the pool doesn't open till 10am there is no rushing down at 6.00am in the morning to bagsy the best sunbed. I don't think there was ever a time we were there when there wasn't a sunbed available. There are several trips made available to you if travelling with a tour operator, we took a trip to St Moritz Switzerland which is an all day trip. We also took a trip to the villa where they filmed the James Bond film Casino Royale, this is a half day trip. St Moritz is a tiring day but worth the experience to say you've been there. The villa was a lovely afternoon trip. The hotel in itself, although the rooms are a little dated is done out very ornate in reception and the restaurant etc. There is one serious thing that lets this hotel down and that is Bubbles Bar in the basement. Firstly you have to queue up for drinks all the time, it's very old fashioned, the music is from a by gone era. This is the only place you can get a drink in the hotel. You can access the roof terrace from bubbles bar via the lift and I think this is where most people escaped to after getting a couple of drinks at the bar so you didn't have to queue up again. This hotel seriously needs another bar, it has the room. If you're not into bars from the 70s, the batzoni bar is the better place to be or the bar at the floating deck outside the hotel. The hotel is advertised as a four star hotel in a five star location and they couldn't have put it any better. Such a fabulous place but not really for children if you're considering going as a family. There didn't seem to be many children at the hotel it was mainly couples so if you're relying on your child to make friends for them to enjoy themselves you might have a problem. We went as a couple for the first time in about 24 years, I know I had to talk to him 😂, but it was almost like a second honeymoon. We would most definitely go again and possibly stay at Hotel Britannia again but only if they got rid of bubbles bar.😂

Ok, I’ll try and stick to the hotel itself and not the many other points that let this holiday down. I was with TUI, staying in room 305 Good points:- - Location - fantastic transport links - Lunch & Dinner were decent enough with plenty of variety, you won’t go hungry - Rooms cleaned every day + towels changed - air conditioning good + ceiling fan - balcony with partial lake view - lifts - free boat service to Bellagio - UK TV in room for free - excellent WiFi signal throughout, again free - secure safe, again, free - fridge in room Bad points:- - breakfast left a lot to be desired, I stuck to coco pops - awful evening entertainment (bloke singing to a tape) - dining area often crowded - waiting staff seem disinterested - dinner in the Bazzoni Hotel was a horrendous experience. Food in the Britannia is superior. - coffee in the hotel is awful throughout - double bed was two single beds shoved together - no ironing board / iron - shower very small & cramped - wooden floors meant you could hear people banging around in rooms above you and in corridors - bubbles bar had the atmosphere of a morgue Other points:- I felt the biggest let down of this holiday was the general attitude of the some older British public who appear to have an aire of self entitlement about them, be prepared to be barged out of the way at meal times (plenty of plates being dropped). And I say some and not all. Also amusing is the fact they get all tarted up for dinner. It’s a 3-star hotel. Not Hampton Court Palace. Summary:- Do it once, but at £500 all inclusive per person with TUI (cheaper than Shearings hahahaha) I feel we did get a bargain. Would I come again? Probably yes, but if I did, I would stay in Como itself or Milan

I have just returned from a holiday at this hotel, which is lovely. The food was good buffet style for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If going out for the day you can order a packed lunch if you are booked for all inclusive, which you need to order the day before and I recommend you collect from the reception as you go into the restaurant for breakfast as the rolls have not been buttered and you can do this while you eat breakfast. The safe in the room is free with easy to use instructions. The shower cubicle in the en-suite bathroom is a bit small, but great shower pressure and warmth. The room was clean. The beds were a bit on the hard side. We enjoyed staying at this friendly hotel.

When we arrived as the rooms were not ready had lunch which was fine by the end of the week tinned pears/peaches became a bit of a joke. My friends suitcase was not in her room. It took a while to sort this out the receptionist did not think this was a problem or a worry. My room overlooked the rubbish bins and car park - no drawers in the room for my underwear or tops so as I was a single traveller had a double bed, used one side for my suitcase as my drawers. I asked if I could move the receptionist was extremely rude and unhelpful - dismissing my concerns. To get to my room, I had to use the service lift and then walk to a further old fashioned one. On looking into the stairwell, this was full of old clothes and rubbish. I was not the only person to point this out but by the end of the week it was still there!! Again the receptionist did not care. The dining room staff were very pleasant but the bar staff were unwelcoming, although that was not surprising given their surroundings. The bar was in the basement and resembled a working mans club. The entertainment consisted of a man playing an electric organ. The room was so cold and we did wonder if the barman intentionally had the A/C so high that he did not have to serve them. The overall deco was tired. Apparently Queen Victoria stayed there and I don't think it has been decorated since. The eternity pool not one the pictures look like it is attached to the hotel not correct as you need to cross a busy road. Never again!!

Dear customer, We are sorry that you feel your concerns were not taken seriously but we can assure you that we do listen and on the first day of arrival with large groups it takes a while to deliver all suitcases but they do arrive. The bar area is kept cool as guests like it this way especially at night when there is singing and dancing

check in very good also got good room (Tui) fourth floor the food in hotel was very good, breakfast was a bit rough and ready but this is Italy !! One big problem was the all inclusive drinks ? the bubbles bar was really a dump ! and drinks where undrinkable the beer was nearly water ..but during the day in sunset bar the beer was ok we had to pay after 6 in sunset bar for a decent drink heineken was good but e5 and decent gin 9e there was a keyboard singer on till 10pm come on its just getting going make it 11 ?? the views where stunning we got a day ferry ticket 15e each and even used it at night for a drink in bellagio the hotel is 90% full of coach holidays . we upgraded our wristbands to platinum for the last couple of days as we where running out of euros ,, so we also had the restaurant package the a la carte one was the best across the road BUT the bistro in bazzoni was rubbish the staff where rude and very slow at getting a drink we walked out the chicken was not cooked (have pics) so we went in the buffet there that wasn't brilliant ?? so to be honest the food in the britannia is really good , but not a lot going on in como Not like lake garda !!! we had excellent weather . but overall had a brilliant holiday many thanks to all staff and a special Thank you to all at the a la carte restaurant many thanks would stay again no problem.. but would go platinum all week .....
