Rude staff and terrible food. It puzzles me to see the 5 star reviews on here for this hotel. The lunch and dinner food is atrocious, the only thing that is edible is the fresh pizza that is being cooked by the pool during the day. We had to dine in the restaurants nearby most days as a result. The rooms are fairly small and the bathrooms are okay. The only good thing about the hotel is the pool and the stray cats. Cocktails during the evening are decent but the soft drinks are cheap alternatives and the lager isn't great. This hotel is nowhere near 4 star standard!!!

Overall very disappointed with this hotel. The pool area is lovely but other than that everything is very poor. Initially we got put in a room with a massive bunk bed that blocked the patio doors making it cramped, dark and dingy. The reception did let us move and the second room was more spacious without the extra bed however the cleaning standards are not up to scratch, the floor was always dirty even after the cleaners had been in. The pillows are hard and high - impossible to sleep on! The food is awful, always cold and not enough choice. We ate out most days. The gyros pool bar was quite good but they closed this half way through our holiday with no explanation. A lot of the staff are rude. This is not a 4 star hotel by any standard.

I recently stayed at this fantastic hotel with my wife for a week, and I must say we had the most amazing relaxing time. The hotel staff where so nice and friendly, and very accommodating. The food was lovely and there seemed to be something to eat at any time of the day. The drinks were great didn’t seem to be watered down like I’ve experienced on previous all inclusive holidays. I would highly recommend this hotel and definitely be returning next year with my kids and my parents too. Special mention to the manager, he was such a gentleman he made our stay very enjoyable as he mingled with the guests every day. On our last night we spoke to the manager and gave us a gift which I found a lovely touch and a happy ending to the holiday. Also a special mention to one receptionist in particular Agnieszka who was so helpful and seemed like she would go out of her way to make your stay enjoyable. See you next year

We have just returned from a stay at the marathon, I understand from some previous reviews that maybe some people are too easily pleased when it comes to certain things writing that people shouldn't listen to the 'whingers' I would like to state I am not one of those however there are a few things to be mentioned as you need to know what you are paying for before you arrive! My biggest problem here was the food. If I'm honest it was the biggest thing for me, I went for 2 days with no food until me and my partner found a supermarket, the food was luke warm at best (breakfast, lunch and dinner) the options were next to none, maybe 10 trays of warm food, (fries, spaghetti, watery bolognese, frozen mixed veg) were on offer every single evening therefore you are left with 6 trays that 'change' however the change in food from day to day is absolutely minimal. There is also no children's options for those with children so if your kids don't like bolognese I would rethink your options because there is no typical chicken nuggets etc! The quality of the food really really was not acceptable and for the people who have left good reviews based on the food, I honestly don't understand how that is possible. The pizzas.. they are amazing!! And so is the man who makes them (yani), freshly cooked in the stone pizza oven every day! This was the only food from the hotel I was more than happy to eat. He should most definitely be given a pay rise! He was so friendly and happy to everyone everyday (he was there every single day during our stay - 10 days) this guy really made our holiday and was the one member of staff who actually made an effort! (Also the lady behind the bar during the day was lovely and smiley! I didn't catch her name unfortunately) As everyone has already mentioned the AI drinks.. awful! All very very watered down, only beer, wine, juice, sodas during the day until 6.30 certain drinks including some of the local spirits you have to pay for.. considering you have already paid AI I think it's wrong - my opinion maybe. Had a slight drama one evening and my partner went all funny after 4 drinks (I can assure you he is more than capable of drinking double this amount and being perfectly fine) and within 30 minutes of his last drink couldn't sit up, couldn't talk, couldn't focus on me, he just sat dribbling unable to control himself (the so called manager saw me and told me 'you go to sleep, you go to your room' then shut the door on me.. not are you ok, do you need some help - very poor customer service!!!!) so I called a couple we knew to help me get him back to the room who had to carry him back there for me (this is at 6.30pm...) which was very scary as soon as we got him laid on the bed he was passed out, me unsure what to do just sat up the entire night to keep an eye on him however when he woke at 6am he felt dreadful and asked me what was wrong, he didn't remember a single thing he was so confused - now I dont tend to point fingers however, somebody had put something in his drink - it was raining on this particular night and there wasnt a single person round the bar just the barmen, I know my partner and I know when he has a drink or two, this was something else. I have never seen anybody like this before. No point involving police as they wouldn't do anything. So we then spent the rest of the holiday buying bottles of drink from the shops and having those instead. After all this the manager would not even make eye contact with us, like it was our fault.. I couldn't be more disgusted in the lack of empathy! The barmen the next day straight away offered my partner a coffee and started saying how when you have a lot on your mind you sometimes just black out (which all seems very suspicious to me) needless to say we got a funny look when we just asked for 2 cups as we had our own drinks. Regardless as to the reply for this review - I know my partner and I full well know the way he ended up was not due to too much alcohol. All in all we may as well have not gone AI as it wasnt worth a penny. The hotel grounds and pool itself are lovely and clean, also fairly modern - no issues with anything in this sense although the door to our room was very difficult to open and close - probably because it was wooden with heat and cool weather it expands and shrinks etc, not something that can really be helped (pool is very cold but wakes you up!) Rooms are cleaned daily by lovely ladies! Overall I definitely 100% would not stay here again, and would certainly not recommend to anyone, shame as the hotel itself was the only nice bit about it. And the person who made our holiday was the pizza guy! Very poor management, very poor food, very poor drinks, very poor staff attitude I can't believe they get away with this and actually charge people for such things! Also a heads up the couple we met here were told they were over booked when they arrived, the manager tried to give them a different room (as per previous reviews) to which they refused, this couple had also been told by 2 other couples they had the same thing upon arrival.. so it's obviously an ongoing issue! Over all I don't usually moan believe it or not but I would rather speak the truth and I do feel sorry for the next people who make the mistake of booking this hotel, for this reason only am I writing a review like this, if I can prevent one person from the misery!

Im sorry you feel this way, after further investigation and speaking with my staff they informed me that your partner had more than 10 drinks, brandy and metaxa which he was drinking like shots.I could see your partner was very drunk and the only option was to send him to your room to prevent any situasion of anyone getting unjured. If you needed any help all you had to do was ask,Im more than happy to help anyone who needs it.I respect your comments about the hotel, everyone is entitled to theyr own opinion but I sincerely hope you enjoyed the island. We had 10 days here and loved it. Spotlessly clean with great room service daily. Lovely pool and pool bar. We were AI and the food and drink has been really good with so many options to suit all tastes. Long sittings for breakfast, lunch and dinner and “snacks” at all other times: pizzas, gyros, ice cream, cakes. All staff are really friendly and nothing seems too much trouble. We shopped around for car hire but by far the best is on offer at the hotel in the reception area (reasonable price and full insurance). If you read anything negative about this hotel, my guess is it’s written by folk who have a tendency towards moaning about life anyway. The weather has been fab and you might need a layer in the evenings in October. We would recommend this hotel and would stay here again if we return to beautiful Rhodes.

Came to this hotel to celebrate a 40th birthday as a group of ladies. Hotel was extremely clean with amazing staff and great food. However the drinks were very disappointing as they were clearly watered down and very limited options during the day, unless you were willing to pay for drinks that will then become free in the evening! The hotel does need modernisation as sun loungers by the pool were torn. There was no lift so we had to carry our own suitcases up 4 flights of stairs to our room and then carry them back down again as there were no members of staff to assist with this. The rooms themselves were adequate, however, no water stored in the fridge, only 1 litre bottle to last for the duration of your stay, so you had to keep topping it up. No kettle facilities in the room and the rooms themselves were very out-dated. The good part is though, when things were not working, they were promptly addressed and rectified. Special mention has to be given to the affable manager Vasilis who actually ensured that our trip was a 4* experience. Without his attentiveness as well as staff members Stefani, Asterix and Yannis, this would not have been a good trip. The wonderful staff manner and attentiveness is what made the trip. The actual hotel accommodation is definitely not of 4* standard, however, as previously said, the staff made all the difference. This would be a much better hotel with some real investment in updating and modernising the hotel and providing 4* facilities.

Appalling service from the start of our holiday. Upon arrival at Marathan at 12am from our transfer me and my partner experienced issues when the Receptionist advised our room was not available and instead we slept in the basement with no air con or hot water. There were mosquitos everywhere but we had no choice as there was no manager available and receptionist explained to speak to manager in the morning. In the morning we are then told by the manager to wait until 2pm check in time, bare in mind we have paid for our holiday. I was done waiting by 12pm so I went to complain at reception then the manager had given us a courtesy car which at the time seemed “fair” turns out the car hire only cost 30 euros as the next day when we queried about having the car another day, so we still made a loss and we still checked in at 2pm. They were greedy enough to overbook and undervalue their customers experience.

Dear Alisa, We are really sorry that you were not satisfied during your stay in Marathon. Regarding the room you had for the first night, the only issue was that it did not have a balcony, the air conditioner in fact, is bran new and we had no reported issue concerning it’s operation and hot water is always available in all our buildings. Lastly, just for the record the car we offered you for a day cost over 45 euro. We think that it was a fair compensation. Best Regards, Vasilis Zafiris Hotelmanager
