After reading some of the reviews on here we were worried about our holiday that we had booked for a week here. But, we found the hotel to be great! The rooms definitely need some work, but it didn't affect our stay at all. Maids were in our room every day to clean. The hotel staff were all very friendly to us, we wanted to leave a tip but ran out of euros! The beach is about 150 metres away, and the pool area is actually very nice considering the price of the hotel. Yes there are swimming lessons for local kids some days but only for a couple of hours and they dont take up the whole pool. Also it's not like they're running around screaming and causing chaos, so not sure why people complain. The location is good, loads of restaurants and some bars 5/10 minute walk. Overall, for the price and location we would definitely reccomend this place!

We stayed for a week from the end of August. Had we known that a large proportion of the disappointing reviews on here reflect the reality at Area Blue, we would not have booked the place. Have stayed in many apartments on various Greek islands and this has by far been the most disappointing, I think this is because it presents itself as something shiny and lovely. However, it really needs a substantial refurb and a refocus on the needs of those who pay to stay in the accommodation, rather than trying to appeal to everyone by running swimming lessons, holding parties etc. In the spirit of trying to give a balanced review I have posted both positives and negatives as it's not all bad, and despite the many failings by the hotel owners to prioritise the needs of their paying guests, we did have an enjoyable holiday. However, this was mostly down to our determination to make the best of a poor accommodation choice. Positives: Views from apartment (3rd floor, sea facing, 2 beds) were lush. Cleaner came in every day to empty bins and have a general tidy up Main pool was clean and a good temperature Cocktails were available for €3 each but ONLY when another guest told us about the blue wristband you could buy for the same price at reception. On check in they failed to mention this... Bar snacks reasonable price Lovely young woman worked on the bar who made up for some of the downsides by her hospitality and friendliness Location good, near to large supermarkets on the main road, bus routes and taxi rank. Negatives: Pool lessons take place from either 9am or 10am to 12 noon every week day, and again from 4pm to around 6/7pm. Kids pool parties also take place - there was one on the Saturday we were there. This makes for only a 4h slot each day during which guests have full use of the pool. Reception staff unfriendly and disinterested in complaints of any kind. Apartments very tired and dated. Kitchen equipment embarrassingly scant and insufficient to do simple things like slicing bread, preparing a simple meal. Dangling wires everywhere in the apartment and fuse box cover was a painting placed on the wall. Despite the €3 cocktail price, the likelihood of being able to order one you want was slim as when bottles ran low or were finished they weren't being replenished. Kids play area full of broken equipment. Signs up by the beanbag area stating you have to pay to use these too. Sunbeds comfy although many ripped with their sponge fillings exposed All in all it feels like a wasted opportunity. The location is stunning. The apartments (if refurbished) could be beautiful. Garden areas and play area need some new equipment and TLC. If these were dealt with along with making the complex exclusive for guests, they could have a superb place on their hands. There is space for a much larger pool on the garden area too.

Over priced. Unkept. Reception not interested. Pool is open to the public. Between 10 am and 12 every morning were swimming lessons for local children. This left around 1/4 of the pool available for paying guests. Not to mention children's parties. Wonderful view from the balcony only problem is if you're using the air con you cant sit out as the rusty unit sits on the floor and the heat from it is unbearable. Our sink drainer was a 2 ring stove. When the maintainence guy came because the heavily corroded tap broke and water was gushing out. I showed him the other problems. He said he had covers for the electric fuse box and returned with a picture. Nailed it in front of the electrics then left. Assuring me it would be fine and he would return the next day to deal with the other issues. We never saw him again. The view from the rooms with a see view look beautiful on the internet. In reality it's a poorly kept area where the hammocks are broken the grass is over grown in most parts. Reception dont tell you that for 3 euros you can have a wrist band and that gives a 50% reduction on all beers, cocktails and air con. Every time any of us tried to speak to reception the response was ( I only work here ) The shower heads have to be hand held as there is nothing to hold them up. I reported the top step entering the pool to be broken almost 2 weeks ago to the manager on reception. She said she would get it fixed. I did it myself in the end. The pool isn't cleaned properly. The hotels potential is immense. But there is very little interest from the people running it. The only nice comment I can make is the pool bar staff. They were helpful and great with the kids We had 2 apartments 1 through booking.com £800. One we booked direct with area blue £1300 for exactly the same rooms !!!!

Where do I start.... This hotel has some of the rudest staff that I have ever come across. The bar staff gives you dirty looks as you walk past and some of the worst stares that I have ever experienced. The room was awful, dirty and the furniture looked like it had been found in the street. We had 12 other members in our family and each room just got worse and worse. My 9-year-old daughter even fell through a piece of furniture scaring her face with blood absolutely everywhere. The hotel made me feel like it was my fault but it was the state of the furniture that caused this. The swimming pool is taking over by locals, sometimes you can't even get a sunbed as all the locals put their towels out - not acceptable. I would never stay in this hotel again, it is understaffed and the staff they do have need proper training on how to deal with people. The hotel is run down and should no way be advertised as a 4*. I dont often do reviews but honestly if you have booked this hotel then try and move as quick as you can. I don't have a positive thing to say and the best part of this holiday was flying home with a hurt daughter ( due to the hotel) and that is saying something!!!

Needs a complete overhaul. Lots of little things wrong in different areas. The location is good and only ok in 2 different ways. It’s right beside the beach which is good but a little bit of a walk into the more lively part of Ialyssos if you don’t mind. Small Supermarket & restaurant across the road which are handy & the restaurant is quite good & reasonable. The rooms are very badly in need of updating. The mattress in our room was unbelievably bad. Thought the springs were going to break through as you lay on it. Our room wasn’t available when we arrived due to a medical problem with the previous occupants & the room they gave us was way smaller. Stayed 1 night in that but had to demand to get out of it. The only room they had only had a view out to the street and not what we booked but it was better than nothing. It was take it or wait longer & if we did take it we couldn’t move to our original booking. We had to get out of the 1st room so we wouldn’t be on top of each other & with 4 suitcases covering the floor areas. The pool area is ok but it’s almost like a public pool because swim classes go on every now and again during the day!!! The guests are kinda pushed aside. Beyond the pool & before the sea is a garden that is kinda deserted but has potential. I think its deserted cos there’s a sign saying you have to pay for beds there but not at the pool??? We sat in the garden 1 day on chairs which you didn’t have to pay for & one the bar staff seeing that we’d walked down with drinks from our room told us we couldn’t do that! We were a good bit away from the bar area just looking at the sea. They made us feel like we were doing something wrong even though there weren’t any signs saying you couldn’t do this. Maybe they should PUT signs up. Can’t say I’d stay here again but in fairness it was just ok at a push (but rooms & the standard of them are well below average)
