Rooms are large and well equipped. Very attentive and personable hosts who meet all your needs and provide great information about the area and the history of the chateau. Location is great- close to walk to village restaurants and the river.

A lovely stay in an 800 year old chateau.

The chateau is stunning and managed by the family that have owned it for 100s of years.

Don’t expect a hotel though! Facilities are simple, but with lovely touches.

The chateau overlooks the village and is a short distance from the restaurants and access to the water.

Chateau d'Esparron was definitely the highlight of our trip. It will always be a special place --- my fiancee proposed on the top of the tower, overlooking the beautiful lake. It couldn't have been more perfect! We can't wait to go back.

The chateau is within walking distance to the lake and several restaurants, and there are several beautiful hikes nearby. While it is a historical spot, it really does feel like a quaint b&b with wonderful hosts (thank you Bernard & Charlotte Anne!).

This was our first trip with our twins and aupair. They had a 2 room for us that were connected through a shared bathroom. This arrangement was perfect for us. The rooms are just beautiful and are restored perfectly which made the stay even more pleasant for us.

The owners are very nice and friendly. They allowed us access to their private area to store milk for our twins and were more than accommodating given our complicated needs. The breakfast is great and we enjoyed the original kitchen where it was served.

It was a bit cold for us to go to the lake for water activities, but it is there and in our next trip we hope to do some sailing.

We have just returned from a holiday which will stay in our memories for ever. Charm and history that has been created over the centuries just waiting for us to enjoy. Idyllic with a capital I. We had 2 nights here before moving into the Chateau self catering accommodation which was equally delightful - see separate review on s/c. Our gracious and ever helpful hostess Charlotte -Anne served the most delicious breakfasts. A table laden with French goodies. Although I tried to practice my ancient schoolgirl French there is really no need as the family speak perfect English. We will definitely return.

First of All, the Village of Esparron itself, is a wonderful South of France sight, worth at least a one night stay.
And then..., you enter the Castle, a very special one, I might add. Nothing to do with the cliché of the old, cold scottish castle. It is inviting, has lovely gardens and so much charm, certainly the keyword of what was a three night stop in Esparron.
Not to mention that the Breakfast is excellent and an image of the "land of plenty", if I may put it that way...!
You're not far from the Lake, where plenty of fun is also available.
In short, I cannot stop recommending "The Château d'Esparron" as a "MUST stop there at least one night", or you will miss a real alternative kind of aristocratic sleeping experience.
If all the above shouldn't convince you, I might add that the owners of the Castle, will do everything to make you feel at home,... and they have succeeded overwhelmingly.
Have fun...!

It was last summer when myself and my husband stayed here. The owner of the chateau was very welcoming and his dog Tileul equally so. It is rather expensive but this is an unique experience staying in a chateau that has been in existence since the 12th century. The breakfast was delicious. As this is a very old building with very thick walls it can be a little cool so do bring a shawl, cardigan of some type just to keep warm at breakfast. Enjoy!

Everything was excellent here. The Chateau is owned by a family, which were always very kind and helpful. The breakfast was home-made with a nice personal touch - we were pretty much alone at the large table in the dining room. The location is fantastic - right in the heart of lavender fields if you arrive at the right time of the year. Within driving distance are beautiful lakes at Verdon river and Verdon canyon.
All in all, we would be more than happy to return here again for a longer stay.

My only regret was having only spent 1 night at this property. Bernard and Charlotte were warm and generous hosts with great recommendations for sights in the area. The room was everything i had envisaged of a "castle" and so much more, from the comfiest bed and pillows in my 6 weeks of travel to the claw-foot bathtub.

Location wise, it is within easy walking distance to the lake and a short drive to Gorges du Verdon and Valensole which has some of the most picturesque scenery.

A hidden gem on a mountain up a windy road with clear water lake, warm hospitality by the owners, we felt like their guests and not just visitors during our stay.
Authentic chateau close to lavender and sunflower fields.
We would return and stay longer next time!
