Cabanas Potosi is located in the second largest shield volcanic crater in the world. The cabins are family owned and offers bird guided tours with one of Panama's best bird guides, Mario Bernal. The valley sits at 3,000 (1,000 Meters) above sea level and is the home of over 300 species of birds plus migratory birds during October and March. Many family owned restaurants are located with walking distance of the cabins. You can get to El Valle by traveling by bus on the Pan-American Highway from Panama City, Panama. The trip takes about two hours of which the last 18 miles (30 Kilometers) offers beautiful view of the mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Come and visit us soon and wake up to a symphony of birds every morning.

Detailed Reviews
Cabanas Potosi is 4 acres of well-groomed garden with a wonderful and natural variety of plants and birds. The owner, Dennis, has lived here for many years and is well known in the community so if you have special requests or need information, he will probably know offhand or will be able to connect you with someone who will. I was there in March of 2022 as the pandemic was winding down and things returning slowly to normal thanks to Panama's no-nonsense approach to mitigating the infectivity rate. I enjoyed the surroundings, interesting conversations, and comfortable climate. I spent quite a few mornings working outside and alternately stretching out in a hammock. There seems to be a constant breeze through a break in the surrounding mountain rim that keeps the bugs away and the warm afternoons comfortable. The rooms have minifridges but no cooking facilities. Breakfast is provided (coffee, pastry, juice, fruit). The windows have screens on them too which is a plus. (Most here do not). Since it's about 2 km outside of town, it's better to have a vehicle but Dennis will shuttle you into town. House-keeping does a good job of keeping the rooms and facilities clean.

We stayed here in June 2019 and were recently looking at photos from our trip and remembered we had forgotten to write a review of this lovely place. It is set within the most beautiful gardens where we spotted all sorts of birds and other animals. Each cabana is cosy and comfortable we all slept really well waking to the sounds of the birds each morning was very pleasant. The owners were friendly and helpful, it was funny bumping into them twice at restaurants in town. We really hope to one day return to Panama and stay here again!

Cabanas Potosi misses you. Unfortunately we have been closed since March 1st and do not plan to open until the virus is under control so as not to endanger our two employees who are still working for us. Also, Mireya is dealing with some health problems and needs to get better. Take care and stay safe.

It is a wonderful place! The garden is beautiful and the owner Dennis is very nice. He will shuttle you to town if you prefer not to walk and tells you about all the interesting things to do in the town. The view from the cabins on the mountains is very beautiful.
On our first day here, my boyfriend and I decided to hike la India Dormida in the early morning. When we reached the top, my boyfriend asked me to marry him! Such a beautiful and special moment for us. When we came back from the hike and told Dennis and his friend Irma about our engagement, they were very happy for us and offered us drink to celebrate. It was very nice and thoughtful. We will for sure be back, since this will always be a special place to us.

After participating in the ocean-to-ocean cayuco race we needed a cool, friendly place in the mountains to relax and chill before moving on to Pedasí and Chiriquí. Cabañas Potosí is amazing and wonderfully managed by the owners. The cabañas have been in business for more than 40 years and the property has been in the family for generations and it is extremely well taken care of. The extensive gardens are lush and beautiful and the bird life abounds. The owners are totally helpful and organized. The cabañas are clean and have murals inside pained by local artists. This is one of those places where you just want to spend more time; it is relaxing, fulfilling and good for the soul.

loved loved loved staying here. this was our last main stop on a trip around Panama. El Valle is a gorgeous town. Cabanas Potosi were perfect. Hot water, comfy beds, fridge in room, reasonable price. Dennis and Mareya were wonderful hosts! They have so much history in the area that you really feel like you get to know El Valle staying here. And they'll tell you all the great places to hike and eat. I'm not in to birding, but you can't help but be fascinated by their involvement with the local critters. Overall, this was our favorite place to stay in Panama!

What more can I say about this beautiful place that hasn't already been said? The grounds are absolutely beautiful with all sorts of birds and humming birds around. The price is right. Three of us stayed in one of the cabins and it came to about $20 each. Bob and Debbie were filling in for the owners, and they were very nice. The morning we left, Bob offered to drive us to the waterfall to save us a taxi ride. Very thoughtful. The hot springs are within walking distance. What fun to give yourself a full body mud bath for an extra $2. Admission to the hot springs is $2.25. I'd bring my wife here the next time I'm in Panama.

Cabanas Potosi is a collection of four cabins located a few minutes by car from the main street of El Valle De Anton. The cabins are very simple, though by no means rustic--a bit like a Holiday Inn from the 1950s. (The rooms have neither TVs nor phones.) But the prices can't be beat, and the owners (a retired American married to a Panamanian) are the nicest people you will meet during your stay in Panama. The grounds are also quite lovely, with trees and flowers of every color and description surrounding the cabins and the owners' house. Tea and coffee are served in the morning, but no breakfast. All in all, the cabanas are a nice place to stay if you're looking for a place to get away from it all.

We were greeted when we arrived and given a nice refreshment while the manager explained the layout of the property and gave us a very helpful hand-drawn map of town and the activities. The cabana was clean and comfortable with a small fan (no air con but it isn't needed), a small fridge, an open closet with a shelf, and a bathroom with walk-in shower (no tub). They have about 8 bird feeders set up in a small area and have coffee ready in the morning so you can sit outside and watch birds while you drink coffee. We brought our own breakfast supplies and used the on-site kitchen for utensils/bowls to have our cereal/fruit in the morning. Dennis is American and Mireya is Panamanian, so communications are very easy if you do not speak Spanish well. They are happy to assist however you need to make sure you have a good time and find activities you enjoy. For example, one afternoon we went to a pool at another hotel for a nice refreshing swim after they set it up for us. If you want to go birding, they can set you up with Mario, a great guide who lives across the street. The property is fenced and gated, with hammocks and a ping-pong table, and you can freely explore the grounds. It is simple, clean, relaxing, convenient, and we would certainly recommend it and stay here again.

Great place for nature lovers and families. Big neath yard with a special BBQ spot and ping pong table. Cabanas are neath and have everything. Warm shower. The owners are very nice treat you like family. It is also normal to walk into their house to grab a coffee.. (I am serious). Mireya also gives spanish lessons and her brother is like mr nature and birdman who is also a guide.. It is a little bit out of town like 20 minute walk or 5 minutes by car. Close by the waterfalls. Its very quiet and attacts quite some birds. Price is a bargain. This is not the place for young backpackers who wanna party. This is for sure the place I go back to when I will stay in Anton again!

We spent 2 nights with Dennis and Mireya and greatly enjoyed their company. Their hospitality made the visit very memorable. But not to be overlooked was the incredible beauty of this area, a 10-minute walk from town, with a magnificent garden, spacious grounds, and an incredible variety of birds. We spoke limited Spanish, and it was comforting to have them answer our questions in English. The room was clean and included a refrigerator, and both a twin and full size bed. Soap was provided but bring your own shampoo. We enjoyed sitting in the Adirondack chairs and watching the birds, including an owl, scarlet tanagers, and many others. The location on Calle La Reforma leads to a nearby stream and cascades called Las Mozas. We saw exotic oropendola birds nesting in a huge bamboo grove on the way there. We enjoy unique travel experiences, and this fits the bill. Cabanas Potosi is highly recommended if you want to avoid the noise, dust, and traffic in the center of town.

Dear Kris and Dan:
Nice to hear from you. Sorry to inform you but we will be closed from October 9-23. Visiting family in Colorado. You find many other nice places to stay in El Valle - Golden Frog is one of our favorites. Good luck,
