On my first solo trip around Costa Rica, I started off in Santa Teresa. I chose Casa Zen because they had daily yoga classes and the space was so beautiful. I'd say is one of the best places to stay in the area. Not the cheapest one, but it's worth every penny. I made good friends in this hostel, and...

As a three time visitor to Santa Teresa, I was hesitant to stay in a hostel. The idea of shared bathrooms for a group of females over 50 years old from the states was on the surface scary. The cleanliness of the bathrooms, polite staff and considerate guests made this a wonderful experience. The check in was positive as I...

Casa Zen is a very relaxed hostel. It has a lot of rooms / beds but you don't have the feeling that is that busy. There are 2 good kitchens. The rooms a very clean, the location is perfect (close to beach, supermarket and restaurants). The boss, Joe, is a great guy and so is the staff. The hammocks around...

We stayed in the studio apartment! It was a great space and the yoga studio was literally right outside our door. The apartment was clean and spacious. The staff at Casa Zen were helpful and able to suggest local places to eat nearby. The included breakfast was great as it allowed us to be able to be ready for the...

I was looking for a nice yoga retreat, but so many are very structured and very expensive. Casa Zen is perfect: you build your own yoga experience (and all the instructors are great), but you can also run off and hit the beach, any of the cool hippy shops around, or some of the fun day trips. And it's so...

I stayed at Casa Zen during my first solo trip and I must say I loved it. Super chill & quiet. Very clean and lots of awesome lounge space. Daily yoga classes on the terrace were my favorite part of the day. Not a single regret!

We were disappointed with our stay at casa zen. Unfortunately the main member of staff present during our stay was very rude and negatively impacted on the atmosphere in the communal areas. Out interactions with him were unpleasant. Breakfast is included although only includes one piece of toast and a plate of fruit therefore not sufficient to set you up...

We had a great time in casa zen guest house! Service was great, very helpful, very nice! The place is just beautiful and resourceful! The common areas are quit nice! The dorm we were in was clean and welcoming! Showers and toilets are downstairs which is not ideal but they're clean as well so... Breakfast is including in the morning...

I am not one to write bad reviews, especially about a country that is so dear to my heart. After living in Costa Rica for about a year, I am pretty familiar with the way things work and that it is not always necessary to make reservations, especially during the off season. That being said, booking a trip with a...

I agree with most the comments below except the suggestion it was really noisy (it's only the cleaner). I stayed for three nights and overall loved the look of the place. With breakfast included this place represented good value for money. The cleaner is noisy! I actually don't know how she breaths because she does not stop talking (LOUD) from...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Santa Teresa and Mal Pais are rather remote beach towns, and that is what makes them so special! Thankfully, even though we are a little off the beaten path, there are still quite a few services available to visitors. This is a excellent area to relax practicing of Yoga and Surf.On the first floor, we have six private rooms, ideal for single travelers, couples or pairs of friends. The rooms have either a double bed or two single beds. We also have two larger private rooms on the first floor, each with beds for three people. Scroll down for photos and prices for our private rooms. Upstairs you will find the apartment plus three additional rooms with varying capacities, featuring exterior doors as well as interior doors connecting to the apartment. An abundance of shared bathrooms are also located on the first floor (there are many to choose from and they are always clean!).We also have two well-equipped communal kitchens, including our signature chef’s kitchen, complete with a professional quality stove, microwave, blenders, and a giant stainless steel refrigerator. We offer a amazing Yoga deck with every day class. Our helpful, bilingual staff is always ready to help plan other tours and activities in the area, including surf lessons, canopy tours, stand up paddleboarding (SUP), visits to nearby waterfalls, fishing, sailing, snorkeling, horseback riding, ATV rentals and more. We can also assist you with restaurant recommendations, reservations and travel planning, so your trip can be totally relaxing and worry-free! ... more   less
