I am normally very very easily pleased by hostels, but the staff here was incredibly rude our entire stay; specifically the curly haired guy who works the front desk. He deemed the communal kitchen closed at 7:55pm when all signs posted say 8am - 8pm, and refused to let us access our dinner that we had stored in the refrigerator....

A very nice place at only 50 meters from the beach. We did not come for the yoga, but really liked the relaxed atmosphere (and the hammocks basically in front of every room). If you're coming by bus, inform your bus driver and he will stop the bus basically at the hostel's door. It's budget, so no private bathrooms or...

Casa Zen is a place with a good vibe. Rooms and bathrooms are clean and fair enough for it cost. Breakfast is included and also they have 2 kitchens one in doors (best equipped) and one outdoors, so you can cook your own lunch or dinner; a super market is just few steps from the place. But if you don't...

Amazing ambiance, great value. The staff is super helpful and resourceful. ....solved our problems with transport and forgotten luggage. ...great location near beach. ...they could accommodate a mixed group with diverse needs.... authentic rustic Tico experience which in 10 years will be replaced with something far more upscale.

I did not stay at the guest house but came for a yoga class with Jen (the owner) in the morning. She was an amazing teacher. For 9 bucks in a tourist town what a steal! The yoga class is on a deck by beautiful trees and has nice decoration, we could smell declines food cooked during the class. They...

Our stay in Casa zen was okay. The rooms and shared bathrooms were clean. The whole Hostel is very much yoga oriented, so you have to keep your voice down most of the time. Unfortunatly everybody else kept their voice only down during yoga lessons and it was really loud during the rest of the time. We usually woke up...

This is a great place to stay for a few day or week for anyone looking to relax but still be in the heart of the action. The staff are super good and friendly, the kitchen is great and it's just next to the beach. It's great value for money (for Casta Rica) and you find find too many better...

I only went a few times for yoga but the receptionist guy was extremely unfriendly on several occasions. The classes are cheaper than many other places with a good range of class types but there are always people talking in the rooms nearby, motorbikes and the pump going off. Nice and close to the beach and facilities but that staff...

I came here for 5 nights and stayed 12. It's so close to gorgeous Santa Teresa beach. I went to the yoga classes everyday and loved the teachers, learned so much, was truly happy here. Big thanks to Joe, Shannon & April for helping me grow in my yoga practice. Thank you to all the staff, the friendly and helpful...

Beautiful, simple place with helpful staff. Get the apartment if you're traveling with a partner. The cool shower (private bathroom) and the kitchenette were well worth it for us. We looked forward to our fruit plates for breakfast every morning. The beach is so close and the grounds are good for hanging out with a book. We didn't try the...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Santa Teresa and Mal Pais are rather remote beach towns, and that is what makes them so special! Thankfully, even though we are a little off the beaten path, there are still quite a few services available to visitors. This is a excellent area to relax practicing of Yoga and Surf.On the first floor, we have six private rooms, ideal for single travelers, couples or pairs of friends. The rooms have either a double bed or two single beds. We also have two larger private rooms on the first floor, each with beds for three people. Scroll down for photos and prices for our private rooms. Upstairs you will find the apartment plus three additional rooms with varying capacities, featuring exterior doors as well as interior doors connecting to the apartment. An abundance of shared bathrooms are also located on the first floor (there are many to choose from and they are always clean!).We also have two well-equipped communal kitchens, including our signature chef’s kitchen, complete with a professional quality stove, microwave, blenders, and a giant stainless steel refrigerator. We offer a amazing Yoga deck with every day class. Our helpful, bilingual staff is always ready to help plan other tours and activities in the area, including surf lessons, canopy tours, stand up paddleboarding (SUP), visits to nearby waterfalls, fishing, sailing, snorkeling, horseback riding, ATV rentals and more. We can also assist you with restaurant recommendations, reservations and travel planning, so your trip can be totally relaxing and worry-free! ... more   less
