I stayed for one week and really enjoyed my stay at Casa Zen. As many other reviews mention, the staff really let this place down. Especially as I haven't traveled solo in a while, friendly staff can really make you feel at home but this was totally missing from Casa Zen. Even other businesses in town had commented on their...

I stayed at casa zen for 12 days and 11 nights from November 4th to 15th, 2016. This is definitely a rustic hostel but for $20 Canadian a night if has all that you need. Location: casa zen location is amazing! You are on a private street going straight to the beach about a 50m walk. On the main road...

We are not yogi's but wanted to try this place anyways. We were not disappointed. It's a beautiful little hostel with great common areas. I was told the yoga classes were wonderful but I didn't try them. Surf board rentals and laundry service made out stay easy

A great place to hang your hat for a week or longer of relaxation and surf. This small place is cozy with private rooms and shared baths. Easy walk to the beach and you can borrow one of the houses boards to enjoy the daily surf of Santa Teresa. Return after a morning surf and enjoy a breakfast in the...

Casa zen is awesome and great value for a long term traveller looking for time to reenergise and a bit of luxury in the beautiful Santa Teresa without blowing the budget. We booked in for the 7 night mini yoga retreat. Yoga classes twice daily, all the instructors are amazing and classes are about 80mins long so great value for...

We had a private room with a decent kitchen. Room was very clean and looked very nice. Front desk staff were rude and cold which I didn't understand. A man who was working there quite often was uninterested in helping us and was vague with anything he told us. Other than the staff, the vibe is really nice with great...

I am normally very very easily pleased by hostels, but the staff here was incredibly rude our entire stay; specifically the curly haired guy who works the front desk. He deemed the communal kitchen closed at 7:55pm when all signs posted say 8am - 8pm, and refused to let us access our dinner that we had stored in the refrigerator....

A very nice place at only 50 meters from the beach. We did not come for the yoga, but really liked the relaxed atmosphere (and the hammocks basically in front of every room). If you're coming by bus, inform your bus driver and he will stop the bus basically at the hostel's door. It's budget, so no private bathrooms or...

Casa Zen is a place with a good vibe. Rooms and bathrooms are clean and fair enough for it cost. Breakfast is included and also they have 2 kitchens one in doors (best equipped) and one outdoors, so you can cook your own lunch or dinner; a super market is just few steps from the place. But if you don't...

Amazing ambiance, great value. The staff is super helpful and resourceful. ....solved our problems with transport and forgotten luggage. ...great location near beach. ...they could accommodate a mixed group with diverse needs.... authentic rustic Tico experience which in 10 years will be replaced with something far more upscale.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Santa Teresa and Mal Pais are rather remote beach towns, and that is what makes them so special! Thankfully, even though we are a little off the beaten path, there are still quite a few services available to visitors. This is a excellent area to relax practicing of Yoga and Surf.On the first floor, we have six private rooms, ideal for single travelers, couples or pairs of friends. The rooms have either a double bed or two single beds. We also have two larger private rooms on the first floor, each with beds for three people. Scroll down for photos and prices for our private rooms. Upstairs you will find the apartment plus three additional rooms with varying capacities, featuring exterior doors as well as interior doors connecting to the apartment. An abundance of shared bathrooms are also located on the first floor (there are many to choose from and they are always clean!).We also have two well-equipped communal kitchens, including our signature chef’s kitchen, complete with a professional quality stove, microwave, blenders, and a giant stainless steel refrigerator. We offer a amazing Yoga deck with every day class. Our helpful, bilingual staff is always ready to help plan other tours and activities in the area, including surf lessons, canopy tours, stand up paddleboarding (SUP), visits to nearby waterfalls, fishing, sailing, snorkeling, horseback riding, ATV rentals and more. We can also assist you with restaurant recommendations, reservations and travel planning, so your trip can be totally relaxing and worry-free! ... more   less
