Detailed Reviews
We went with a large group and rented all four of the Casas. This place is gorgeous and the pictures do not do it justice. The grounds are beautifully maintained and each of the Casas are super clean, well equipped and nicely decorated. The housekeeping and cleaning services are outstanding and helped keep our large group from making too much of a mess. The pools are great (small to medium sized but great hang out spots) and the views from the upper house (Mirador) are stunning. The help and service provided by the owner is outstanding - she provided so much help in both planning our trip and answering all our questions on a daily basis. Five stars all around for the casas, the staff and management. We will definitely return.

We stayed 8 days in this unique place. The scenery in the middle of the jungle is a big highlight. The houses have a lot of privacy are big, with very comfortable set up (great kitchen, dinning space, etc.). Having said this Soraya, the owner, makes everything in her power to make your stay unforgettable. She helped us in many different instances that made our trip a great experience. If you are long to party this is not the place place, great for couples and families.

My wife and I stayed in the Romantica for a week. It's one of the cleanest and nicest places we have ever stayed. The property is well maintained and exquisite. Soraya and her staff goes above and beyond for you to have a wonderful and relaxing time during your stay. We highly recommend staying here. Do it. You will not be disappointed!

Casas De Soleil ("CDS") is very well managed by a helpful and caring staff. CSD is easy to find, right off the main road, and check in was easy, fast. Parking was convenient. We stayed in Casa Grande but moved to another property after a few hours. The reasons 1) The bedroom was air conditioned but the living, dining and kitchen areas on the 2nd floor were not. 2) There's community pool a few steps away and we didn't want to hear potential noise from the pool. 3.) CDS is not located on the ocean. It's a dusty, sometimes dirty walk across the main road to get there. And if you want to see the sunset, you have to be very careful after dark as there are many petty crimes committed after the sun goes down.
The pictures are accurate. CDS is well appointed, and it is safe. The manager is outstanding, and my rating is largely based on the 5 star service provided by management. Case Grande at CDS is best for a family- plenty of space, pool, and it's safe, but less appealing for a couple.

First off, everything I read about Casas de Soleil was true. It was as it represents itself on the website. It was a nice place, the staff were super friendly, it was in a great location (albeit in a remote town), the rooms were clean, and the bed was comfortable. But I found that it fell short of the rave reviews that I read. Some of the blame lies in my lack of knowledge of the town of Santa Teresa. I was not expecting it to be so underdeveloped (the main street through town- which had some very good restaurants on it - is a dirt road).
But for Casas de Soleil itself, here is what I wish I knew before booking: 1) they discourage AC use. We understand asking us to turn it off when we are not in the rooms, but we were also asked not to use it too much because it's expensive. It was really hot and humid and having the AC on was such a relief, but we felt guilty for using it. 2) there was no AC in the upstairs living area of Casa Romantica - only in the bedroom. 3) I also wish I knew that the toilet paper needed to be thrown away after using, rather than flushed. It's kind of gross, but it wasn't really a problem - I just wish I knew. And finally, 4) I would have liked a staff member to check up on us when the power went out. The power went out for several hours one night in most of the town. There was one battery powered lantern in the room and several candles, but we didn't find the matches 'til morning.
All in all, I would say that our stay was more of an adventure than a luxurious vacation.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful experience staying in Casas de Soleil. We were in Casa Grande, which is right next to the communal pool, but it felt more like a private pool the entire time we were there. Casa Grande itself is really spacious - something we really appreciated when we were rained in one afternoon. We sat on the patio watching the howler monkeys in the trees by the pool and made use of their very well-equipped kitchen.
The property is beautiful -- just off of the main road and across the street from the beach. We were also within walking distance of many shops and great restaurants which was very convenient. Because this was our beach leg of the trip, we decided to do the requisite surfing lesson, which the owner (Soraya) helped set up for us. Even though Soraya wasn't in town, she kept in touch via email and made sure we were well taken care of. The staff there were very friendly and made us feel at home right away. Jenny checked on us every day to make sure we had everything we needed and was always ready to offer recommendations (and she never steered us wrong).
We definitely recommend staying here if you are visiting the Santa Teresa area. You won't regret it!

We stayed in the Casa Mirador with our three teenaged sons in early August. We were amazed, and taken care of, from the moment we arrived. The house has amazing views of the Pacific from the infinity pool to the 2nd floor porch where we ate breakfast, to the rooftop patio/lounge with hammock and couches. The three baths were large and modern. The kitchen was well stocked and motivated us to cook. The bedrooms were large and the beds were great for sleeping. It was equipped with wifi and Bose audio that let us enjoy music wherever we chose to be.
What is truly special about staying at Casas de Soleil are the hosts, Soraya and Trent. The fact that it is difficult to write something original to add to the repeated testaments of just how warm, gracious, and welcoming they are pretty much sums it up. Like others our ATV quads were arranged by Soraya with a local provider who took the time to draw us a map around the peninsula to the Montezuma waterfall and back at a price we could not get on our own. Trent took our boys surfing, let me drive his car to the beach so we could all go, and stuck with our youngest until he was able to get up and finish with a high-five to his brother as their boards came together. Soraya helped us care for our oldest by sending us to the farmacia with a write up of just what he needed to feel better, including the coconut water her staff provided from a tree on the property. Clean rooms, laundry done for us, beautiful pool - It was all as good as gets and a great way for us to end our trip to Costa Rica! (Soraya even rescheduled our pick up so we wouldn't be standing alone waiting at the airport in Tambor.)

We had a wonderful time in Playa Santa Teresa. Our group of 11 (4 adults and 7 kids ranging from 7 to 17) stayed in Casas Mirador and Hemingway for 7 days and 6 nights. The casas are very nice, extremely well maintained and well appointed. On a daily basis the staff cleaned up, did dishes, made the beds and even did our laundry. The property is beautifully maintained, nestled into the surrounding vegetation. Casa Mirador is the big house at the top of the property (villas are built up a fairly steep hill) and is beautiful. Tastefully decorated, beautiful views, nice infinity edge pool. I can't recommend it enough.
Our hosts and the owners - Soraya and Trent - bent over backwards to make our stay everything we wanted it to be. No request was too big or too little. They arranged all our excursions - ATVs, shuttles, zipline, horse back riding, fishing. Trent gave the kids surfing lessons at Playa Hermosa and let the kids use his boards for the rest of the stay. It has been stated in many reviews that Soraya and Trent are wonderful and every word of it is true. They are genuinely nice people. This persona is true with their staff as well - assistants, ground keeper, guard, maids - and even the dogs.
The beach is a good 5 minute walk down gravel and dirt driveways and paths. I had some hesitation about not staying in a villa right on the beach, but once were there the walk became part of the charm of the place. The gray-sanded beaches in the area can be quite rocky when the tide is out or if a big surf has strirred things up.
Mal Pais and Playa Santa Teresa feel like an "off the beaten path" type location. We were there in the off season so it was not plugged with people as we were told it can get. The ride in from the Tambor airport (really a cool little airstrip) is an adventure over dirt roads that had not been graded in a while. Dirt roads, dirt paths, gravel diveways, ATVs. A surfing sub-culture. Not a resort within 200 miles. If this appeals to you - as it did for us - Playa Santa Teresa and Mal Pais is a wonderful place to go. By no means are you roughing it - dirt roads and all. The town is well equipped with stores, markets, wine/liquor store and very nice reasonably priced reatuarants. Italian, Japanese, local quisine, sports bar and a french bakery to highlight a few. There is even a small sandwich shop that bakes and sells gluten free buns and breads. Mel Gibson has a place in the hills and the Matt Damon and family were in the area earlier in the week. There are numerous high dollar spectacular places in the hills. Note that it is a cash driven area - put away your credit card and become friends with the ATM in the middle of town.
Wonderful stay, wonderful people, wonderful casas. If you are staying in Playa Santa Teresa, I highly recommend Casas de Soleil.

We stayed on the property of Casas de Soleil in the Casa Grande. We have been going to Costa Rica for several years and have found this to be the best place that we have stayed in Santa Teresa/Mal Pais. The house was perfect. The house is a very short walk to the beach and restaurants. We enjoyed our daily walks to surf and loved coming back to our tree house like house. In the past we have had problems with houses not being so clean and smelling. The house was kept very clean!!!!! The kitchen was stocked with better appliances than my own house. The house was furnished beautifully! The bedrooms where a bonus. They have very comfortable beds and you can even turn on AC if you want. The pool was awesome. Our kids loved it. It was nice to have in the afternoon when the beach got hot. The owner was so helpful in everything we needed. I highly recommend this property!!!! [--]

Our villa had separate bedrooms. As soon as we awaked into our villa there was a bathroom and a staircase with a bedroom on each side. Plenty of space separating the bedrooms.
Thank you for getting in touch with Casas de Soleil, we are currently sold out for your requested dates. I think Shaka is a great place for a family with a daughter that is looking to learn to surf and love the beach. Playa Hermosa is one beautiful beach and Shake is located there. I really don't know much about Rumbo Surf Lodge, I am sure is a great place as well.
Have a wonderful vacation and enjoy your visit to Santa Teresa/Mal Pais.
Warm Regards,
Casas de Soleil
