Located a little ways off the main drag, very private and removed but actually not far from anything. So hip. Everything about this place is "cool". The people staying there seemed like perfect accessories to the house, scantily clad babes lounging about smoking and sexy men watching them. The coolness kind of made me uncomfortable, because I am not that cool. It was like this sheik, members only kind of vibe and I felt weird using the kitchen. That said, our room was so nice. It was in a separate building at the back of the property with a sweet porch. Very private, pretty clean. All the building are beautiful and so many iguanas to see. If you are a bit of a dirty backpacker looking for friends, this wasn't a great place. Surf board rentals was a plus, though we got the feeling that only pros stay there and we were super awkward getting the board out the door.

This hostel is basic, but lovely. We were in a private room, with a ensuite bathroom. The showers were hot which is nice in Costa Rica. The kitchen is nice, and clean. Overall really nice atmosphere - great communal space to meet other travellers. Magui and Herman are so nice and do great upkeep on this hostel. Santa Teresa is very dusty and you need a good pair of sandals. If I was back in Santa Teresa I would definitely stay here again. We felt sad to leave!

I was in Montezuma and I was getting bored so I drove over to Santa Teresa and immediately I canceled my remaining night in Montezuma and booked a room at Wave Trotter. One of the best decisions of my trip. I came over the next morning and was warmly welcomed by the staff who helped me getting a surfing lesson for the same day. Not only did the staff welcome me, but all of the other people in the hostel were super friendly and nice and asked if I was interested in coming to the beach to see the sunset later in the day and also if I wanted to take part in the Christmas dinner. Met everyone later at the beach, walked back, and just about everyone in the hostel turned up for a 30 person Christmas feast. In all honesty, one of the best Christmas's I've ever experienced.

The hosts are very friendly and the guests are awesome too.

Our accommodations were disappointing though. The first night I was constantly woken up by the couple upstairs who finally stopped walking around their room after 3 am. Make sure you stay upstairs as the downstairs rooms don't have soundproof from the wooden floors.

The second night there was a water leak that had flooded a corner of the room and had some of our clothing and dog's bed wet. They were going to look into the problem the next day.

On the third and last evening I woke up at 3 from the dripping sound of water and had to move the other bed out of the way and discovered our dog wet and our laundry wet. It made sleeping very uncomfortable for the rest of the night and we were up at 6 to leave for SJO.

For our 6 week stay in Costa Rica and Nicaragua, this was the only place that was overpriced for what we got. When one pays over $100 per night you at least want to sleep dry. I normally don't complain but there was no competition offered for the water issue and in fact we had to pay $2 extra per towel used. It really was this extra that put me off completely (or the straw that broke the camel's back) to not leave a positive review.

Stayed in the dorm next to the firepole. Great sleeping. Beautiful laid back surf vibe all around. Blond northern europeans everywhere. Low flow taps help to conserve water. 5 minute walk to the spectacular beach. Really entered vacation/surf daze. Loved it.

After a very questionable bus ride, me and friend wound up in Santa Teresa with a room booked at the Wave Trotter hostel. We had no expectations but were pleasantly surprised with the incredible vibes, amazing host, cool people and super cute room. It was also honestly the best location, hostel wise. Though not directly on the beach, it's less than 5 mins getting there. It's just off the main road, a tiny bit up a hill. The huge common area is super fun; kinda looks like a refurbished farm house. Open concept floors, huge open kitchen and common space. The back yard is also huge, full of hammocks and tight ropes and dogs. The room was super cute; clean and well sized. No air conditioning but it did have fans. The dorms actually seemed really cool here too. Super hippie vibes, with a great , helpful staff. Highly recommend staying here with it's super affordable rates.

Came for a few days and stayed for over a week. The owners were great and very relaxed, the hostel was super clean with a large backyard where there was a slackline and hammocks. Good central location about 2 main walk from the beach. Will stay there again.

By far the best hostel I stayed in in Costa Rica and I have been traveling the country for 4 weeks.

The hostel is owned by an Italian family, who also live there with there cute little kids.

The hostel as a great vibe which fits perfect in Santa Teresa.
The entire place is very clean. The rooms and beds are great.
The backyard is amazing to hangout with other fun travellers. During my stay I met so many great people there, who all where very social and wanted to hang out together.

I would be happy to stay there an entire month if I ever have the time to go back there for that long.

stayed in a dorm for 2 nights.

Pros
Great big open design with good kitchen and shared common rooms.
Quiet location
Can rent surfboards

Cons
There is a family ? Owners with 3 young children living there. The kids are constantly running around so the place feels a bit like a crèche, a lot of screaming and noise and not exactly relaxing, feels a bit like you are staying in someone's house.

Staff aren't particularly friendly

Bathrooms are never clean.

Could just have been bad timing, seems like there are a lot of people currently living there, we ended up finding something much better.
