Incredible hotel, amazing staff and hospitality. Beautiful rooms, food and atmosphere. We visited without kids and immediately loved this resort, it's proximity to the airport and all of the reasons to never leave the beautiful grounds.
I was very impressed by my recent stay at El Mangroove in Papagayo. The grounds are beautiful and spacious, with 4 pools and many lounge chairs on two separate sides of the poolside restaurant, and attentive poolside food and beverage service. There were many children during our summer stay, but it felt comfortable for adults traveling without children as well as families. The staff, especially at the valet and pool service, was so warm and helpful, and went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. There is also a beachfront right in front of the hotel with dedicated lounge chairs and a security guard to ensure local peddlers do not disturb the guests too much, though most people were using the area for paddle boarding rather than swimming or laying out. The food at the hotel was generally good, and was priced at typical US metropolitan city prices. We preferred the more casual restaurant, Matisse, over the finer dining restaurant, Makoko. Some of the reviews I read before traveling were critical of certain aspects of the hotel and I encountered no issues during my stay and was surprised by some of the negative reviews I had encountered. I found the property to be amazing value for a true four-star hotel experience - it is not a five star luxury hotel, but it doesn't market itself that way or price itself that way and the service was above and beyond for what it is. No issues with bugs or cleanliness at all. There was some construction in early August 2022 but it was on more far-flung buildings of the Property and did not impact my stay. I believe it is in connection with upgrades being made now that this is a Marriott property so it will be an even more delightful stay once complete. I will recommend the hotel to my friends and family. Can't wait to come back!…
This hotel is one of the cheaper option of the high-end places in Costa Rica and that’s where they get you . You should know they’re not five stars not even four stars. Food has no taste -simply disgusting ,no class . Front desk -rude, attitude unprofessional, and offer no solution to any of the problems. Rooms -we took two rooms, the presidential suite and a normal room -Furniture‘s old, half of the equipment don’t work - you can hear your neighbor at all times no matter what they doing. Zero isolation zero privacy. They separated me from my kids and made me and my wife sleep on two separate beds because they don’t have a king bed, and when I asked to speak to the manager, I was called unprofessional.. Pool- dirty unkempt, always looks deserted with no service. Concierge it’s probably the best thing that happened in this hotel. Malissia was amazing and I’ll give her 10 out of 10. . The bottom line is, don’t waste your money. This property is barely at three stars, and any Holiday Inn is better than them.…
My husband and I had our wedding at El Mangroove in December 2022. We were blown away by the amazing staff at the resort. The rooms were gorgeous (especially in building 3 and 4), our wedding was beautiful, and all of our guests had an amazing time! We were immediately greeted by Adrian and Carlos who are rays of sunshine and go above and beyond to ensure guests are happy. Moises and Maria at the front desk were lovely as well and assisted with anything we needed help with. Poolside and restaurant service by Kenneth and Tannya was superb. They always made sure we had a drink in our hand! Pros to El Mangroove are you are only 20 minutes from the airport, the restaurants are very good, the pools are gorgeous, and you are beachside with access to jet skis, paddle boards, catamarans, etc. Cons to El Mangroove are you are pretty isolated from other activities which is fine if you are looking for a quiet retreat or wedding to sit poolside for the week. The best part of El Mangroove was Adrian. His positive energy is contagious! He would go out of his way to great us and our guests by name. Adrian knew we wanted to see monkeys and even found us by the pool to show us the monkeys at the resort. By the end of our visit he felt like family and made it hard to leave. I have never experienced a staff quite like El Mangroove’s that go out of their way to make sure you are happy and treat you like family. I cannot wait to go back! Pura vida! Kelly & Evan…
This is one of the nicest hotels I have ever had the pleasure to visit. Staff is friendly and accommodating. The facilities are clean and I love the all inclusive option on the bill. The lap pool was a pleasure too!
When we arrive to our hotel, we were welcomed with drinks and a welcoming invitation from reception. We checked in and were provided with all the amenities that were given to myself as a platinum member of Marriott. I had hoped for an upgraded room however, the hotel space was full. We were driven to our room on a golf cart, and show. around our suite once we arrived. They provided a welcome snack with a nice letter and let us explore the rest of the resort on our own. I really liked the half outside half inside type of living situation. So you get a little taste of Costa Rican weather if we wanted it. I think my favorite part about the room was the shower with a window that you could look out to into the garden or your living area. From the photos online, I had only thought there was one pool, looking out to the beach. However, after walking around the resort more, there were three more other pools to be found! I loved that it was a short walk to the beach so you could have both pool and beach water easily. The breakfast buffet was superb. I loved all the options for anyone to have. Definitely would have love to try out the spa and fitness center. However, I was just enjoying all the sun and good weather while we were there. I would definitely stay here again!…
This hotel is beautiful and the staff are all friendly and helpful. The hotel is very quiet and relaxing. If you want bingo and loud music this is not for you. Would recommend for couples and families with older children. The food is excellent. Two individuals who I want to complement are Christian, our waiter in Malu restaurant and Esteban, who ran the coffee tasting and was our waiter in Malaku restaurant. They were so friendly and you can see they love to make guests stay enjoyable. Lastly, my son left his laptop at the pool. We called the front desk and they had it. It was found and returned by the pool staff. This is the kind of people who work there. Just a wonderful, calm and relaxing hotel to enjoy!
As part of a 24-person family reunion, we had a great time at El Mangroove. The location was close to Liberia, compact, but had all of the key ingredients. Great pools, comfy chairs, nice beach with great areas to walk to, access to bikes and SUPs and other equipment. Our family arranged for a couple of private dinners in their stunning little Eden of a green space with amazing catered meals. While we found the onsite restaurants didn’t go so well (very slow and wrong orders), we loved the buffet breakfast and enjoyed the drinks and sandwiches during the day on the pool deck. Coco beach and Hermosa beaches are close with great restaurants. Onsite, they had a great steam room, compact but equipped gym, and access to offsite activities as desired. We did a boat ride and snorkeling tour that was a blast. Overall, an amazing time!…
I’ve been loyal Marriott gust for more than 10 years, I’m Ambassador Elite meaning I’ve stayed over 100 nights over last several years! This is hotel you want to stay away! When I checked in at 1:00 pm my room wasn’t available they took my luggage and I was told that I’ve been upgraded to the best room with view and they will let me know as soon as my room available! At 4:00 when I got beck to reception I found my luggage on the sidewalk with my backpack! And the worse when I got to the room they had was with no hot water and absolutely no view! Would never recommend to stay here!
Comfortable hotel, incredibly attentive staff, Zen pool, great food, wonderful breakfast buffet, clean rooms. The entire stay for beginning to end was great. Reasonably priced cabanas. We would absolutely return!!! I highly suggest it!
