We were treated like celebrities from the moment of arrival with Kattia’s warm greeting, accompanied by cold drink and cool towels on 90 degree day and staff members standing alongside us in our 51st Adventure shirts. Our Habitat Superior Suite brought outside in. We enjoyed paradise from the bedroom and balcony and huge shower with clerestory window that opened to the secluded balcony. We travelled to El Mangroove as part of our celebration of Chapter 51, our 51st year. Our new friends at El Mangroove celebrated along with us throughout our stay each day, from arrival all the way to our drop off at the COVID testing station at the airport. We are Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite. We had mid afternoon reservations for dining upon arrival. The table with a view was set with flowers. More than once we came back to our room and found a nice surprise for our celebration. Each meal was delicious and fresh and amazing. At the breakfast buffet we were introduced to Costa Rica’s tasty Lozano sauce and we enjoyed coffee that surely is the best in the world. The people …. Oh, I wish I remembered more names … went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable and memorable. Carlos and Adrian are two of many names. We left a part of our hearts as we departed.

I can’t say enough about the staff at the hotel. They were amazing. All the young ladies at the front desk were very helpful thought out our stay. They were especially helpful when our flights were cancelled and we need to add an additional night at the hotel. Thank you Angelica! Caesar was very helpful as well. We ate at all of the restaurants during our stay and I have to say the food was outstanding. The rooms were nice and clean. Nothing fabulous but clean. The hotel is an older hotel and needs a lot of TLC. This hotel would have received 5 stars however after a visit to their spa we were all very disappointed. I would rate the spa services below average. First, the towels and robes are old and frayed. Second, the staff was not adequately trained. Very disappointed in their spa services. After all this being said a lot of made up for due to the staff just being outstanding! Marriott has great ambassadors at this hotel. I would love Marriott to really devote additional resources to this hotel as it would be a true asset to them in Costa Rica!

The room was infested with ants from as soon as we arrived. The power constantly went out one of the nights we were here. They allow children to swim in what we were told was the adults only pool. Bar is slow and breakfast is really cold and soggy. The omelet station is interesting because you don’t get an omelet, you get a pile of food that falls apart. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and we absolutely won’t be back to this one when we come back to the area. Was a bummer because this was the end cap to my anniversary. Because if this place I can’t get home soon enough. If you want to come to Costa Rica go to la fortuna. Much better hotels.

The overall experience was great we stopped by as a friend recommended the restaurant, their place is amazing and the service was great, octopus salad was great, as a seafood lover was expecting more for the pasta but maybe was just me. After this we had a couple of drinks and Esteban and Gabriel really made the difference we were about to leave and we moved to the bar and was a totally different story, drinks were amazing and the conversation was great, certainly will go back for drinks as the ambience was great! Will try other dishes to have a better point of view fir this

Oof we are disappointed. This hotel has so much potential but I’ll just stay at an airport hotel next time. My friend and I were excited to stay here as a but of a luxury before flying home after a week in more of a small surf shack-style boutique hotel in Nosara. The grounds, design, and architecture are stunning - however the rest just falls flat. Room: Again, room is largely and nicely decorated if not a bit bland/beige for such a fun, colorful country. However, there are gaps in every door leading to outside, so bugs are bound to get inside, which they did - we killed three large spiders in the two days we were here. We ended up placing wet towels along the gaps to outside for peace of mind at night and we had to shake out all of our clothes before packing up. There is a gorgeous furnished patio outside our room - but we couldn’t enjoy it or even dry our clothes in it because it’s covered in bugs and spider webs. You can say we’re in the jungle and that we should expect that, but we just stayed a week in another (smaller, less nice) hotel in the jungle where we enjoyed our spotless ground floor patio every day. The AC in the room works in waves - so room changes from warm and moist to freezing cold every 10-15 minutes. We tried to turn the fan above the bed in to help circulate the air but it makes a terrible whirring sound. We didn’t receive housekeeping until 7pm. Booking a jet ski tour: We only had one day at this hotel and wanted to book a sunset jet ski tour. We booked in the morning through the tour company next to reception (TicoTours) for 4:30pm same day for $170pp. When no one showed up to meet us at the beach, we had to ask another tour company to call to check for us. TicoTours decided to shutdown early for the day without telling us, in spite of our booking. They eventually helped us rebook through this new company which fortunately was willing to stay open late to accommodate us, but it required a lot of me running around from the beach back to their office, back to the beach, and asked me to run to their office a second time. The new company near the hotel bar was way cheaper ($120pp) so make sure not to book any water excursions through TicoTours near check in since it’s marked up 40%. Dinner at Makoko: The bartenders here are slammed during dinner service in spite of it being shoulder season. It took 45 min to serve two of us our entrees while we watched the table of six business men next to us get waited on hand and foot, with multiple waiters and manager checking in on them. Once our food arrived, my catch of the day had no flavor - literally just plain cooked fish, plain cooked asparagus (covered in a pile of unmelted cheese 😂) without even any salt. Was excited to eat a delicious fresh fish meal on our last night in Costa Rica, but we both ended up ordering spaghetti off the kids menu 😂😭🫠 A huge bright side — Gabriel at the bar at Matiss is an absolute gem. He made delicious drinks, made so many interesting suggestions, and patiently helped me practice my Spanish even though it would have been easier for both of us to speak English. Love him!

We had a wonderful stay for 5 nights. The property is beautiful and relaxing. All the staff were wonderful! We got to know the valet the best b/c everyday we drove someplace and explored. The bellboys were super friendly and helpful. They helped us with luggage, getting ice for the cooler, and practicing Spanish. Our room was very comfortable. We had a sitting room with one wall screened in and we could enjoy the outdoor sounds while relaxing or hanging in the hammock. We ate breakfast with them daily and enjoyed all the food we tried. The cabanas are comfortable and relaxing. The sunset views are perfect and there was always a lawn chair available to sit back and watch the splendor. I would highly recommend this hotel if you enjoy relaxed elegance. This is exactly the type of experience I enjoy when natural beauty surrounds you.

My husband and I stayed here for a week for our honeymoon/one year anniversary, and we loved every second of it. If you like unique boutique hotels, this is for you. In fact, we thought we'd leave and explore the area some more, but we loved the hotel so much we spent a lot of our time there! There was construction going on, but it was hardly noticeable. We stayed in Building 1, furthest from the construction. There is a new restaurant going in in the new pool area as well, but it wasn't disturbing to us. Overall: The grounds are just gorgeous. Beautifully landscaped and always clean. There is one long pool that you see on the website, but what there are no photos of yet on the website is a brand new pool area with 4 gorgeous smaller pools, cabanas, and seating with a cute little beach bar. The long pool is adults only and it is enforced, and the smaller pools are for families. We hung out at both and loved both! It really spreads everybody out. We rented a cabana for one day and it was absolutely worth it. The hotel also offers water sports, which is a great perk, and we tried paddle boarding and enjoyed it! Part of the reason we chose this property is because it's right on the water, and staring out at the bay every day was so peaceful. We also rode bikes that the hotel provides along the beach one day. The staff at this hotel are also so kind and welcoming, and everyone we interacted with was lovely. Also, it was VERY quiet here. It's just as gorgeous at night as it is during the day. The Rooms: We stayed in the Habitat Superior in Building 1 and it was my favorite room I've ever stayed in. The private patio with the hanging egg chair was our favorite, and we showered with the patio door open every day! We saw many animals including lots of birds, iguanas, and a coatimunids right from our patio. The air conditioning was superior and we slept like babies every night. The room is so large, too! The Restaurants: The service isn't spectacular, but it's not bad. Just a little slow. There are many food options! At Matiss, the casual restaurant, we enjoyed the burger, tuna poke, beef skewers, and tuna burger. At Makoko, the upscale restaurant, I loved the smoked octopus and hanging out at the gorgeous bar. Makoko has a breakfast buffet every morning and it is AMAZING and well worth the $25. Favorite breakfast buffet I've had. Extras: We booked massages at the Bearth Spa and WOW. Gorgeous area and amazing service. Highly recommend doing this. We also did a coffee tasting one day and Brandon was awesome and so knowledgeable! Thank you El Mangroove for a truly unique and beautiful stay, filled with great food and service.

Only 20 minutes from the airport! Staff is very very kind, friendly, helpful and well trained! The food was fantastic, beautiful architecture, comfortable rooms, right on the beach. I witnessed the staff hosting a large private gathering/celebration event, and they did a marvelous job: creative, beautiful bbq over open fires, private buffet set up for them later that night. I was inspired just witnessing the hard work and attention to detail of the team. They really know how to pull off a magical event and special celebration! Bravo. As an aside, I didn't even hear the group, the staff fit their event in seamlessly, where it didn't disturb anyone else, but actually added to the liveliness of the hotel! The staff was thoughtful and before I arrived, they sent me a courtesy email about the construction, and changed my room BEFORE I arrived, wow, that's amazing service! Thanks for a wonderful stay and the kind attention to detail.

We stayed at El Mangroove for one night prior to flying out from Liberia. You'd never know this place is 15 minutes from an airport; it feels like worlds away. I think it would be a great option for someone visiting this part of CR who doesn't want to spend a ton of time in transit. The pool area is really enchanting, especially at night, with two restaurant/bars around the space and what looks like a pretty peaceful cove at the edge of the property. We really enjoyed drinks and appetizers at Makoko, where we watched a beachfront wedding. The staff was super welcoming. We booked a Bark Suite, which turned out to be two rooms connected by a sliding door and on the first floor of building three. (We couldn't see/hear any construction from our side of the building.) The bedroom part was air conditioned and the other part, with a hammock and screen window, was not. The shower from the air conditioned part jutted out into the non-A/C part. It was kind of a strange setup that made the space feel cramped and dark. If I stayed again, I'd aim for a space with a balcony on the second floor and take advantage of the activities.
