This property is in a fabulous location, and Playa Panama is a wonderful beach. The resort obviously has seen better days, and now it is falling apart, which is really too bad. It has potential. The apartment hotel suites are very large, and actually quite comfortable. They were clean, but inconsistent as to what was available in each suite. Not every suite has deck chairs, proper towels, kitchen cooking equipment, etc. The pool was having issues, and it was dirty and very cloudy. It closed one day, and appeared to have been drained & re-filled. As for service, there was no information left in the room for wifi or other info, so we had to ask the neighbours for passwords & such. The ladies at the "bar/kitchen" were accommodating, but sometimes were just no where to be seen. So, perhaps they have trouble filling staff positions. Friends liked the food, but after trying the nachos, we didn't bother. One very good point though... Louis booked a fishing trip with two local guys, and they picked us up right on the beach below the condos. They were great, and we caught lots of fish, where others did not. So, if you go with high expectations, don't. IF you are prepared to "make do" with what you have, and just enjoy the location, the large suites, the beautiful view, the quiet, and the wildlife (howler monkeys regularly go through the property)... you will have a lovely time, as the rates seem to reflect the lackluster appearance of the place. Just be prepared!

We spent 13 days here in January/February 2020 (in unit 29) and had a wonderful time. We saw howler monkeys and magpie jays in the tree right in front of our balcony. And lots of iguanas around. Beautiful view of the sea from our balcony and the beach is just stunning if one loves nature. The unit is very spacious and the kitchen area sufficient for what we needed. As others have mentioned, the buildings and grounds are all in need of renovation and maintenance (maybe even just a good scrub of the walls) but this did not take away from our experience. We walked and snorkeled a lot. After paying USD 200 for a snorkeling trip with one of the operators in the area, we spent many hours snorkeling on our own from the rocks on the beach (Panama, La Playita, Bonita, Buena) without having to pay. It was fantastic and we saw much more than what we had seen on the paid trip! The restaurant at the Vista Bahia was not open while we were there. We regularly bought groceries in Playa Hermosa (walked there and back) and twice took a cab to Playas del Coco. We twice had meals at the campground and a few times bought food from vendors on the beach, most notably, red snapper from Edgar! Quite an experience. This location is isolated which is what we wanted. We were unlucky to have noisy neighbours for the first two nights but after that it was quiet. Ideally, you should be self-sufficient, able to speak Spanish to communicate with staff and have a rental car, if you are not comfortable walking a lot and staying close by. Don't expect much service but our unit was cleaned regularly and the wifi was perfect. If we should visit this part of Costa Rica again, we would definitely stay at Vista Bahia.

This is a property that is beginning to erode a bit, and there's no sign they're going to fix it up. The road in and around the villas are basically in horrible condition, and you can see signs of neglect in any direction. All that being said, if you don't mind sharing your villa with a few ants and the odd other occasional random bug, it's still quite nice and spacious with air conditioning too. The price for what you get is actually generous, and the most important thing is if you have a concern and ask for it to be addressed? They action it quickly. The workers are as phenomenal as the owner is neglectful (the lone exception was the maids. they did the bare minimum and did a lousy job, particularly on the bathroom/shower). I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. Short walk to the beach, really nice pool area. Appears to have a Restaurant, but wasn't open as we got there just before high season. Owners: this place needs a lot of TLC. Step up!!

The hotel grounds are set back from the road, so there plenty of peace and quiet here. We checked in late and the check in area was lowly lit; we were greeted by a lazy dog and a very pleasant receptionist. We were a little taken aback by the room itself. It was a room with two queen sized beds, two chairs, and a desk in the sleeping area, and a couch and a dining table in the kitchen area. The chairs had stains on them and one of the two beds had a distinct creak/crack when you sat down on it. We brought our own sheets and used one to cover the couch. The bathroom area had two sinks, which was nice. But the shower only had about 2% water pressure and the sliding shower doors were moldy and would stick in the tracks. The in-room safe did not work. The breakfast served in the restaurant area was very tasty (their fried eggs in the traditional and Americano breakfasts are of particular note) and the pool area was clean and inviting. Their is a walking path that takes you down to Panama Beach and to a small and cozy beach just below the hotel grounds. The staff were friendly. The hotel's location is a plus - within a 20-30 minute drive to the Liberia airport and a 10-minute drive to the shops and beach at Playa del Cocos. And it was a roof over our head. It wasn't perfect, but it kept us cool in the heat and safe at night. I can't say I'd highly recommend it, but for the price, it was acceptable for a 5-night stay.

Very nice starting off point. About thirty minutes at most form the liberia airport. Very nice staff they serve food till 9pm on Friday through Sunday. Monday through Thursday its 7am to 4pm after 4 just hamburgers.. about $20 US dollars for 4 to eat breakfast. They just reopened this spot 2 years ago. They are condo type rooms open and expansive with a nice kitchenette; they are updating as the go.... For the price you cant beat this place. You have access to the beach and all. We used it for a jumping off point. Booked three days so we could look at the other available places to stay. The high end hotels eat up all of the bandwidth. You have to search 4 pages in to find other good places like this. Overall we were happy with our stay. Great people.
