Hopkins Bay Resort is perfect for the person who just want to relax and get away from it all. If you don't want to stay on property the whole time I highly suggest renting a car. Make sure not to use google maps it will take you down a new dirt freeway being built that is very rough road. You will want to take the humming bird highway. With a car there are many things to do. There is a small town with restaurant and bars. We met a great group of local retired American and Canadians who meet up most night at a different bar in town. There is a marina located just outside the resort. If you go the Marina ask for Bryan and he can charter you a boat for fishing or snorkeling or both. Allen who checked us in made our trip. He was vert attentive. Alway checking on us and giving us information. Really the entire staff on the grounds where very helpful. The houses are nice and if you get beach your porch is about twenty yards from the ocean. The reason I did not give the resort 5 stars are the house are not stocked properly for rentals. The Kitchen and privacy are your two concerns. . They really just need to spend a couple hundred per house and get all the pot, pans and utensils you would expect to come with a three bedroom house with a kitchen and family room. The other thing to beware of is I think most of the houses are three bedrooms. If you don't rent all three bedrooms they will rent out the other rooms. The only problem is if the are on the second floor you can hear them walking on the wood floor which will echo loudly downstairs. If they get put in one of the downstair bedrooms. There just a bedroom door separating them and the rest of the house.. So you will be able to hear everything they say and do, and they will be able to hear everything you say and do if you are in the family room or kitchen. Just a side note if you are taking two bedrooms I would ask if the third is rented out. It might be worth spending the extra money to have the whole house. If you are taking just one room make sure it is the upstair bedroom. Other than that its a beautiful setting with a great staff as long as you realize you are a little remote.

My 2 sons, their wives, my husband & I spent 6 nights at Hopkins Bay. Our 3 BR beachfront house was spacious, comfortable & well-appointed. Breakfast was included with our package. The menu is varied & delicious. Mariano & King were very attentive to our food & drink needs. Natasha & Vel (front office) were lovely & helpful in every way. The resort arranged our adventures: snorkeling, fly fishing, Jaguar reserve trip/tubing & chocolate tour. All were great. The chocolate tour was fascinating. Blasio was our tour guide for the jaguar/tubing trip. We had a lovely jungle walk with no jaguars. We have been pleased with every tour guide we've had.
The little town of Hopkins is a 15-minute walk away. We ate most of our meals on picnic tables in casual beach restaurants. Dessert was almost always at Dream Cream ice cream shop. A definite must!! Bikes were available as were kayaks & paddleboards.
Hopkins Bay is pricier than most of the little inns but we felt safe & comfortable. We'll be back.

Truly an amazing amazing amazing vacation. We went right before the huge fall spike of covid cases in the United States and are beyond grateful we got away. This resort is clean, beautiful, perfectly located for isolation but also allowing you submerge in garifuna and Mayan cultures. We went with our 3 and 5 year old sons and my 70 year old mother. The resort was so kind, went beyond any expectation and I just loved every single second. Our weather was perfect every single day. We even did private excursions to:
1: snorkel on the barrier reef (just myself and husband- probably not suitable for very little kids unless a nanny is along as we jumped from the boat to dive on a few occasions and just a longer day but exceptional)
2: thatch caye island for the day with the entire family (amazing and so worth it). Bring lots of bug spray but don’t let the deter you- this is where you see the jewel tone waters. Gorgeous. Amazing food. Watermelon drinks upon arrival with shots of rum for those who would like a little spicier island adventure. And
3: rainforest hike to a waterfall with the entire family. Our guide, Pablo is Mayan and he was a total educational experience my children will hopefully remeber forever. He was very cautious of hiking with a 3 and 70 year old and it was amazing. Note: you should definitely wear long pants and shirts. The bugs are crazy and bug spray did nothing. Haha. We were not prepared and exited with tons of bites but still so worth it.

We went to Jaguar reef one night for dinner only because we wanted to venture out one night. We were the only ones seated at the beautiful presiding Jaguar reef. It was such a beautiful formal setting.

I do not know how we can ever imagine to out do this vacation. It was perfect. I have zero complaints. Truly amazing. Even the need for a second covid test at the airport...everything that could have made for a complaint was so outdone by positives that I do not even remember them.

We stayed at the Muy'Ono for three nights following a three night stay at the Colonial at Jaguar Reef - both in Hopkins. Once you get pat the rather underwhelming reception area at the Muy'Ono the place is fairly nice - our "vila" was directly on the water and had excellent views, an ok shower and a very comfortable bed. Due to a problem with the provider, the internet and TV were down for all three days - but we were on vacation so this was not a big issue and the hotel staff tried hard to clear the problem up. The main (only) restaurant is very informal and the food is good. The hotel is a bit pricey for the quality of the amenities and there is a 10% "resort service charge" added to all expenses incurred at the resort. The location on the north end of town is in a somewhat depressed area, however the grounds of the resort are well maintained with excellent beach frontage and two nice pools.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We’re glad you enjoyed beautiful Belize but disappointed to hear there were a few issues with your stay. We are in the process of updating the reception area and expect it to be completed this spring. During your stay, we did experience a cable outage in the area that caused problems with the internet and television. System upgrades are being made to prevent this from occurring in the future. We currently have two great onsite restaurants for our guests to choose from, including a fun, fresh taco bar, which is open for lunch and offers a full bar. Additionally, we are in the process of updating the fees on some resort items and activities to guarantee the best value to our guests. We are always introducing additional amenities for our guests to enjoy; in addition to complimentary beach toys, two pools, and a private beach, we will soon have a gym! Thank you for your kind comments regarding our property, the team does an amazing job of keeping it well maintained and beautifully landscaped. Our secluded location on the north end of town allows for the nice private beach our guests get to enjoy. Please let us know next time you’re planning to visit Belize. We hope to see you soon!

We just came back from Hopkins and I am a bit confused by the reviews that I had read here. Yes I agree its located in the great place, the rooms are great, the stuff is super nice and trying very hard. However I do have to say about each of those. While the rooms are gorgeous size, location and view wise they are infested with ants and water bugs. When you talk about a 5 star rating the linens are not even white and are some of the towels are so old that they resemble more or a rag than a towel. The hotels advertised 2 separate stand alone bars and 2 restaurants with bars, when we arrived there there was one restaurant/bar for the whole place. The menu has not changed for the 7 days that we had been there, the only change was what did they run out ot today? Even with the simple things as a fruit platter. I understand that you are free to go eat anywhere else outside, but then why did I pay $75 a day per reson for the meal plan? Which was advertised as all inclusive, but don't expect any alcohol unless you pay for it separate and additional. It is also pretty small that they could not accommodate everyone and with the last call for the kitchen was 8:15 you would have to order the food still from them,, since its the only place and eat it in your room. It was actually funny that the food was delivered much faster than if you were eating at the restaurants, which by some unspoken rule has to he a 40 minute minimum. While there were 2 pools and a beach I had only counted about 15 lounge chairs in the entire resort. As for your beach towels if you ever want to change them you need to contact the front desk either by bringing them there or by using what's up messenger, this was just too weird to me. As well as for the week that we have been there we were only able to get into the sea once, it was so dirty and it wasn't just the seaweed, in addition to the seaweed there was some black residue as well that looked like spilled oil, and smelled horrible and attractive a crazy amount of flies, and of course the lot of house hold garbage. Once again the staff was cleaning the beach, but in a week there we never saw it clean. The beach also provides a few great hammocks and water sport equipment free of charge to use

We had a limited amount of time this year for our beach getaway from the Chicago Winter. Unfortunately, it started out with us having to wait over 2 hours past the 2 pm departure time of the shuttle from the International airport to the resort 3 hours away. Because a large party was arriving after us, the vans had to wait so that all the luggage could be accommodated. The 2 hours of sunset beach time that we were looking forward to was spent in a mini bus driving in the dark.

The second major irritant was our smoke alarm chirping at 1 am because of a failing battery. Because our phone never worked, I had to go to the security guard to see if we could get it fixed. No such luck. I offered to fix it myself if he could get me a latter, but he did not have access to one. That was a very long night. When they did come fix it, the remedy was to remove the battery, but they did not have one to replace. I hope they have one now and will think about better maintenance of the smoke alarms. .

Finally, housekeeping seemed to have a hard time getting towels in our room at the right time and ignoring a do not disturb sign in the middle of the day(does no one believe in naps on vacation?)

On a positive note, the staff was mostly friendly if not always meeting expectations of their guest.

Overall, I do not think this resort is a great value, but I have nothing else to compare it to in Belize as this was our first trip.

We did confirm that the shuttle wait time was actually 45 minutes, however we are very sorry that you had to wait longer than expected. We are heavily committed to sustainability and typically try to consolidate shuttle rides with other guests arriving around the same time to conserve energy. However, this should have been explained to you more effectively and could have adjusted plans if you were unhappy. We will work to improve communication regarding these conservation practices. Additionally, we apologize for the delay regarding your smoke alarm; we have since remedied the issue with the in-room phone and put procedures in place to ensure we have all the necessary tools to resolve the problem much quicker. We are very sorry about the bad timing of your towel delivery. We have adjusted procedures to avoid similar issues moving forward. In this case, the housekeeping team knocked to deliver the towels you requested. Please let us know if you have any further feedback or concerns. We hope to see you again next time and show you the true Belize experience.

The staff is great. They know your name and check with you often to make sure everything is going well. The restaurant and bar are very good. We also enjoyed eating around at the different restaurants in the village which were more economical. It's a bit of a walk, but everything is basically on one strip. They have complimentary bakes. Don't let the curb appeal when you arrive fool you. The entrance could use a bit of improving. I was a bit hesitant driving up on the bumpy dirt road and seeing a small sign and unremarkable registration building, but once you get on the resort, it's beautiful! There are lovely shrubs and plants and the beach is just steps away from the pool, restaurant and rooms. The rooms are also beautiful and spacious. This is a quiet resort in a quiet village. It is not a large resort with lots of activities and the village is not overrun with tourists (yet-the village is growing). If you want to relax on the beach, explore some local culture, bike around the village, and go snorkeling, diving, or fishing, this is the right place! The excursion staff was very flexible in designing an excursion to fit what we wanted to do. We would definitely return to Hopkins Bay if given the chance.

My husband and I decided on Hopkins Bay after reading other reviews, and it did not disappoint. Driving on to the compound the security welcomed us in and directed us to the reception area. Velene was genuinely pleasant and even made sure to tell us about the lunch special at the Drum bar. The room was clean and had great views of the sea.
Shantel at the Drum bar came to greet us and made some suggestions since the entire menu sounds scrumptious. My husband had the well-seasoned pork chops and I got the creamy shrimp pasta, please get the hibiscus sauce it is the bomb. King the bartender was attentive my hand was never empty for too long. We had some internet issues, Velene was quick to get the techs out to fix it and checked back with us to make sure everything was working well.

Overall great experience the food and staff at Hopkins Bay are ACES in my book.

My husband and I stayed at Hopkins Bay Resort from 8/12/21 to 8/14/21. We had an amazing experience from the moment we arrived, reception was warm and welcoming after a few hours of driving, we definitely appreciated it. Verleen did an awesome job escorting us to our room, giving us a tour of where everything was located and reassured us that if we needed anything to make our stay a pleasurable one, the staff was there to assist us, including herself. The entire staff was polite, friendly, respectable and courteous.

We felt very safe on the resort as security presence was obvious as they frequently patrol the premises especially at night. Hopkins Bay Is clean and comfortable. You can see their employees frequently cleaning the beach and surrounding areas. I would definitely recommend Hopkins Bay Resort to my family and friends. As my husband said and I agreed, the only regret is us not staying longer, our visit was too short but we are going back again. See you all soon, Hopkins Bay Resort, thank you all for a wonderful experience!

The walk is short and appeared to be safe from the resort to the grocery store. The grocery store that has the largest selection is a few minutes further away but still worth it. Everything we found for meats and fish at the store were frozen FYI.
