We had a quick overnight trip to Hopkins and were looking for a well located, clean, friendly, and economical place to stay. Funky Dodo checked all of the boxes for that. The accommodations are modest but the common area is great with lots of seating areas to read, play games, cook meals, or mingle with guests. The beach is just a few steps away and is fantastic for long walks or catching the sunrise. Owners Anna and Roy go out of their way to make guests comfortable and were fun to talk to.

My first time at a hostel, and 14 days of quarantine. I've been here since March and won't be leaving for a while. Exactly what I was looking for in terms of price, walking distance to everything and night security. They also have bikes available to rent for $1bz per hour.  The owners and staff are amazing. They literally treat me like family. Anna even cooked all of my meals during my quarantine (she's an amazing cook!) The rooms are spotless, beds are comfortable. They help with everything I need and answer all questions. Whatever I need, if they can't help me with it they know someone who can.  During lockdown, they even let me put a TV in the common area to use my Firestick. But when I want to read by myself in a hammock, they leave me alone.  I honestly can't find any negatives. I will be using this hostel as a 'homebase' to save money while I travel everywhere else. I was going to rent a house, but I'd rather be here. I recommend this place to everyone!

We stayed one night at the Funky Dodo and were very impressed with fast internet, a great outdoor hang out space, nice kitchen and very friendly owners. The bathroom area is spacious and well laid out for multiple users. Everything was VERY CLEAN. My only complaint is the dorm room. My bed was uncomfortable (like a big taco), the fan blew only in the middle of the room so there was no air flow and there was no bug screening on the door so I got several sand fly bites during the night. I want so badly to give the Funky Dodo 5 stars, but the quality of the dorm room was disappointing (especially compared to how great everything else is).

Thank you for your review. Happy you enjoyed your stay at the Funky Dodo! We wish you safe and happy travels! *The dormitory door and windows have bug screens. However, sand flies are tiny, and are often brought into the room on shoes and clothing. They are also ubiquitous, as we are 50m from the beach, and sand is everywhere. A good bug repellent helps. *There are multiple fans in all rooms, including a high speed extractor fan in each dorm room. Extra fans are available, all one need do is ask! *Sorry you found the bed to be uncomfortable. All of our mattresses are less than a year old, and are replaced on a rotating basis.

Room Tip: in the tree top room turn the water on full blast to avoid the pump making noise. Ask Anna best...
